Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

To kick off the third season of Attraction Checklist, we’re going to revisit an attraction we’ve already featured on the show but one that recently got an update.

Way back in episode 3 we featured The American Adventure at EPCOT.  On February 9, 2018, Disney announced that the attraction would be receiving a bit of a refresh.  The theatre received all new digital projectors, a new screen and new speakers.  The ending film montage received a new edit adding new notable figures from American history and the attraction’s signature song, Golden Dream, was rerecorded with all-new orchestration.

So sit back and enjoy this recording of the refreshed American Adventure.  After the audio, I’ll give you my thoughts on the update.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we head to EPCOT to experience The American Adventure.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we venture to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World to hunt the Yeti on Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain.  'Ride a speeding train through the Himalayan mountains while avoiding the clutches of the Yeti' is how the attraction is described in the guidemap. Guests must be 44” tall to ride this attraction and the thrill level describes this attraction as a thrill ride that is dark with big drops.  There is a single rider line for this attraction and FastPass+ is available.

Before we head up the mountain, here are five fast facts about Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain.

1. Expedition Everest was announced on April 22, 2003 during a celebration for Animal Kingdom’s fifth anniversary.  Almost three years later, the ride opened for previews on January 26, 2006 and then celebrated it’s grand opening on April 7, 2008

2. Expedition Everest’s track is 4,424 feet long and the trains can reach speeds of 50 miles per hours during the ride.

3.  Expedition Everest is the first Disney roller coaster to switch between having trains run forwards and backwards during a single ride.  It was the second Disney roller coaster to go backwards, the first being Indiana Jones et le Temple du Peril: Backwards which operated in a backwards configuration from 2000-2004 at Disneyland Paris

4.  The mountain built for Expedition Everest is currently the tallest at Walt Disney World at 199.5 feet.  They would have gone higher but any structure over 200 feet would need a blinking red light for low flying planes which imagineers felt would take guests out of the experience.

5.  Finally, let’s talk about the Yeti.  At the time it was built, the Yeti is the largest and most complex audio-animatronic ever built by Walt Disney Imagineering standing at 25 feet tall.  A few months after the attraction opened, the animatronic’s framing split which could have signaled disaster if it continued to operate at it’s full capacity.  Since then, the figure has only operated with extremely limited movement and the addition of a strobe light to simulate movement.  Disney Imagineers have said they are always looking for a way to fix the issue but it’s difficult as the mountain was build around the figure.

Let’s now ride Expedition Everest!  Along for the ride today is John B. deHaas and after we ride we will give you our thoughts on this attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we head to Disney’s Animal Kingdom to ride Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain.

Rock 'n' Rollercoaster starring Aerosmith - Disney's Hollywood Studio - Attraction Checklist #47

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Rock on!  We are headed to Walt Disney World to ride Disney's Hollywood Studios' Rock 'n' Rollercoaster starring Aerosmith!  I learn a bit about the attract then head in for a ride.  Recorded on March 22, 2018.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we cover one of my favorite attractions, Rock ’n’ Rollercoaster Starring Aerosmith.  Located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World, Rock ’n’ Rollercoaster starring Aerosmith is described in the guide map as follows: Blast coffin a stretch limousine through the streets of Los Angeles to the rockin’ tunes of Aerosmith.  Guests must be 48” or taller in order to ride and the thrill level describes the attraction as being a Thrill Ride with Big Drops that is Loud.  Fastpass+ and Single Rider lines are available.

Before we head to our super stretch limo, here are five fast facts about Rock 'n' Rollercoaster starring Aerosmith.

1. Though there were soft openings, this attraction officially opened on July 29, 1999.  There was a special, invitation only party and attendees got to ride the attraction with members of Aerosmith!

2. The rollercoaster has a track length of 3,403 feet.  It features 3 inversions and reaches top speeds of 57 miles per hour.  And at the start of the ride, the trains accelerate to 57 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds.

3.  The attraction features a fleet of 6 ’super stretch limo’ roller coaster trains.  While at any given time, one of the trains is kept in refurbishment, the other 5 can be identified by their unique license plates.  Not only are the license plates different, each of the five working trains have a different soundtrack of Aerosmith.

4.  Aerosmith recorded special versions of some of the songs that have new lyrics for the ride.  For example, Love in and Elevator became Love on a Rollercoaster.

5.  The reason the music sounds so good on the attraction is because each train features a 125-speaker, 24 sub-woofer, 32,000 watt audio system.  This is all in addition to the 820 speakers in the show building and the launch area.

It’s now time to ride Rock 'n' Rollercoaster starring Aerosmith at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  I’m a Single Rider this time so after the ride audio I’ll give you my thoughts on this attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we experience Disney’s Hollywood Studios’s Rock ’n’ Rollercoaster starring Aerosmith.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we head to Disneyland to ride Pirates of the Caribbean one last time before it closes to have the, some would say iconic, Bride Auction scene changed forever.  The current Disneyland guide map no longer features ride descriptions but the Disneyland website describes Pirates of the Caribbean by saying, “Celebrate 50 years of swashbuckling as you set sail on a voyage to a long-forgotten time, when pirates wrought havoc on the high seas.”  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the attraction as being a slow water ride that is loud, dark and scary with small drops.

Before we visit the Bride Auction one last time, here are five fast facts about Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean.

1. Pirates of the Caribbean officially opened at Disneyland on March 18, 1967.

2. Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean is the last attraction that Walt Disney personally participated in designing before his death.  The attraction opened three months afterward.

3.  There are approximately 120 animatronics featured in the attraction including the pirates, the villagers and all the animals.  The ride also contains approximately 750,000 gallons of water.

4.  As guests first set sail on the attraction, the drift past the The Blue Bayou restaurant.  This popular dining spot is located in the same building as The Pirates of the Caribbean and it opened on the same day in 1967.  The restaurant was originally planned to feature live music but it is reported that Walt Disney said that the food and the atmosphere were going to be the show in the Blue Bayou.

5.  In June of 2017, Disney announced they would be modifying the Bride Auction scene in the attraction, turning the Red Head into a pirate who is helping auction off the town’s goods instead of brides.  The last day of the attraction in the form you will hear it today was April 23rd, 2018.  The ride audio for this episode was recorded on April 22nd, 2018.

Let’s now ride Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean to sail past the Bride Auction one last time.  Along for the ride is David Marquez and after we ride we’ll discuss our thoughts on the attraction and the planned changes.  This is a binaural recording so put your headphones on now as we head to Disneyland to ride Pirates of the Caribbean.

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we are headed back to Walt Disney World to ride DINOSAUR atDisney’s Animal Kingdom.  The guide map describes this attraction in the following manner, “Take off on a rip-roaring prehistoric tour in the dark to save a dinosaur from extinction.  There is a height requirement of 40” for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the attraction as a Thrill ride with Small Drops that is Dark and Scary.  Fastpass+ is available for this attraction.

Before we head off to the Dino Institute, here are five fast facts about DINOSAUR at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

1. DINOSAUR is a Disney’s Animal Kingdom opening Day attraction, opening with the park on April 22, 1998.

2. DINOSAUR uses the same ride vehicles and a very similar track layout to the Disneyland Attraction Indiana Jones and the Forbidden Eye.  The storylines are, obviously, different.

3.  For about 3 years after the attraction opened, it was called Countdown To Extinction.  The name was changed to DINOSAUR on May 1st, 2001 to tie in with the Disney movie of the same name.  A few subtle references to the older name can still be seen in the attraction, most notably on the ride vehicles that are each stamped with the name CTX Rover.

4.  The ride’s preshow stars Phylicia Rashad as Dr. Marsh and Wallace Langham as Dr. Seeker.  The attraction stars 11 audio-animatronic dinosaurs including one of the star of the Disney film Dinosaur, Aladar,

5.  Finally, in the loading are, guests can look up and see three pipes, one red, one yellow and one white.  All three have chemical formulas written on them.  These are the formulas for Ketchup, Mustard and Mayonnaise.  This is a throwback easter egg from when the ride was originally sponsored by McDonalds.

With the learning out of the way, let’s hop in our Rovers and head back in time and ride DINOSAUR.  I have included the preshow in this recording but I have edited a bit of the time between the preshow and boarding the ride vehicles so things move a little quicker.  Along for the fun today is John B. deHaas and after we ride we’ll discuss our thoughts oaths attraction.  If you’d like to see our ride photo from this ride through, beside to visit the show notes page for this episode, episode 45 over at AttractionChecklist.com.  As usual, this is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, now is the time to put them on as we are headed to Disney’s Animal Kingdom to ride DINOSAUR.

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirates life for me.  It is time to head to Walt Disney World and experience the recently updated, Pirates of the Caribbean.  Located in Adventureland in Magic Kingdom, the guide map describes this attraction in the following manner: Embark on a voyage to a time when pirates ruled the sea. The thrill lever describes the ride as being slow, dark and having small drops.  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and FastPass Plus is available.

Now, before we set sail, here are five fast facts about Pirates of the Caribbean at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.

1. Pirates of the Caribbean opened at Magic Kingdom on December 16, 1973.

2. The attraction features a whopping 126 animatronic figures and 69 of them are pirates.  The flume for the attraction contains around three quarter of a million gallons of water that cycles through at about 18,000gallons per minute.

3.  The attraction’s theme song "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)" was written by George Bruns and X. Atencio.

4.  Over the years several changes to some of the themes in the attraction have been tweaked to stay current with the sensibilities of the time but the biggest change to the attraction came in 2006 when elements from the films the attraction inspired were added to the attraction in the form of a new overall storyline featuring Johnny Depp’s character from the films, Captain Jack Sparrow.

5.  In March of 2018, the attraction reopened from a refurbishment with even more changes and the ‘Bride Auction’ scene now featured the pirates selling off goods from the village and the iconic Redhead in the scene is now a pirate herself, who helps keep the rowdy pirates in line.  The audio for today’s episode was recorded just a few days after that reopening.

Let’s now waste any more time, let’s experience Magic Kingdom’s Pirates of the Caribbean.  Along for the ride is John B. deHaas and after we ride we’ll discuss our thoughts on the updated version of the attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we experience Pirates of the Caribbean at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom!

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

It’s time to head to Critter Country in Disneyland to ride the infamous dark ride, The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh.  Disneyland guide maps at the time of this recording don’t offer a description for the ride but the Disneyland website says, “Travel through Hundred Acre Wood in an oversized beehive and immerse yourself in the stories of Winnie The Pooh.”  There are no height restrictions for this attraction and the Thrill level describes it as being A slow Ride that is dark and loud.  Before we hop in our beehive, here are five fast facts about Disneyland’s The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh.

1. The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh opened at Disneyland on April 11, 2003.  To some controversy, especially to me, it replaced the The Country Bear Jamboree that had occupied the land since 1972.

2. Before it’s opening, there were many different plans for a Winnie The Pooh attraction including an outdoor boat ride in Fantasyland and a spinning tea cups-like attraction that would have been housed in Toon Town.  These were all shelved and the Critter Country location was finally chosen.

3.  To make it appear that Winnie the Pooh is having an ‘out of body’ dream experience before the Heffalumps and Woozles sequence, imagineers use what is called the Pepper’s Ghost effect.  This same technique is widely used in another Disney attraction, The Haunted Mansion.

4.  Like Fantasyland dark ride attractions, each of the 22 beehive ride vehicles bears a different name.  These include Piglet, Rabbit and Heffalump among others.

5.  To pay homage to what came before, three characters from the Country Bear Jamboree can be spotted in The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh.  The busts of Max, Buff and Melvin that once hung in the Mile Long Bar restaurant, can be seen if you you know where to look as you exit the Heffelumps and Woozles scene on the attraction.  Also, the narrator is played by Peter Renaday who served as the voice of Henry in the Country Bear Jamboree.

And now let’s experience The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh.  Along for the ride today is Suzie and after we ride, we’ll give you our thoughts on this attraction, and believe me, I have much to say.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we are about to experience Disneyland’s The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh!

Living With The Land - EPCOT - Walt Disney World - Attraction Checklist #42
22:52

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - EPCOT is our destination this episode as we head to The Land pavilion to ride  Living With The Land.  John B. deHaas is joining us once again and he tells us of the time he almost worked on this attraction.  The audio quality on this one is especially good.  A must listen.   Recorded on August 14, 2017.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode, by request, we head back to EPCOT in Walt Disney World to ride The Land pavilion’s signature attraction, Living With The Land.  As of this recording, this attraction has a sponsor as it it presented by Chiquita.  The guide map describes this attraction in the following manner, “Sail through the greenhouses of The Land to see nine-pound lemons and more.”  Seriously, that’s how this attraction is described in the guide map.  The Thrill Level describes this attraction as being a Slow Ride.  Before we go check out those nine-pound lemons, here are five fast facts about Living with the Land.

1. Living with the Land is an EPCOT opening day attraction having opened with the park on October 2, 1982.  When it opened the attraction opened, it was called Listen to the Land but the name was changed in 1993.

2. There are 35 animatronics in this attraction including monkeys, buffalo, goats a dog and a rooster to name a few.  Perhaps to drive home the thought of living with the natural environment, there are no human animatronics on the attraction.

3.  The audio animatronics seen during the American Prairie sequence of the ride, we actually built before EPCOT even opened.  They were originally meant to be part of a Magic Kingdom attraction called the Western River Expedition, but that ride was scrapped in favor of building Pirates of the Caribbean instead.

4.  As you pass by the farmhouse, you’ll see the number ’82’ painted on the mailbox.  This is a small tribute to the year EPCOT opened, 1982.

5.  When the attraction originally opened, each boat was captained by a cast member who took you on the tour, these were later replaced by a pre=recorded narration.  Also, the attraction used to feature the classic song, “Listen To The Land” written by Bob Moline.  Though the song is no longer featured on the ride, an instrumental version of it plays in the land pavilion several times a day.

And now, let’s ride Living with the Land.  Joining me today is John B. deHaas and after the ride audio we’ll give you our shouts on this classic attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we are about to experience Living with the Land at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT!

Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress - Magic Kingdom - Walt Disney World - Attraction Checklist #41
32:46

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - It's time to experience an iconic Disney attraction, Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom.  Joining me is John B. deHaas.  We learn a little about the attraction and then give it a ride.  Recorded on May 25, 2017.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

It’s time to experience a classic!  This episode we head to Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom to take a spin on Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress.  Located in Tomorrowland, the guide map describes this attraction thusly, “Travel through the 20th Century to see how technology has improved our way of life."  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the thrill level describes this attraction as being a slow ride.  Before we answer the age old question of just what is shining at the end of every day, here are five fast facts about Walt Disney’s Carousel of progress.

1. In the 1950’s Walt Disney came up with the foundation of the idea for the Carousel of Progress but the technology available to the Imagineers at the time made it impossible.  It wasn’t until General Electric approached Walt Disney to develop a show for the 1964//65 World’s Fair that Walt was able to make the show a reality, opening on April 22, 1964.  After a successful run at the Fair, the show was moved to Disneyland where it opened on July 2, 1967.  The show ran at Disneyland until September 1973 when it was moved, at General Electric’s urging, to Walt Disney World.  The show opened at the Magic Kingdom on January 15, 1975 and still runs daily at the time of this recording.

2.  The carousel theatre concept, where the audience revolves around the stage, was developed by a team of imagineers led by Bob Gurr and Roger E. Broggie.  This allowed the guests to remain seated during the duration of the show rather than getting up and moving to the next theatre as had been the original plan.

3.  The attraction’s iconic song, There’s A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow’ was written by Disney Legends, The Sherman Brothers.  When it first opened at Walt Disney World, it had a new song, also written by the Sherman Brothers called The Best Time Of Your Life.  In 1993, when the show was given a major overhaul and an update, There’s A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow returned to the show.  The Sherman Brothers have stated that that song, There’s A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow was Walt Disney’s Theme Song as he was always so optimistic about the future.

4.  The show’s original narrator, playing the part of the father, was singing cowboy Rex Allen.  When the show was overhauled in 1993, that role went to radio personality Jean Shepherd, author of the stories that inspired the movie A Christmas Story.  Rex Allen was still in the show, this time playing the Grandfather in Act 3.  One other voiceover note, Mel Blanc, the legendary voice actor behind Bugs Bunny and Daffy duck, plays Uncle Orville in the show.  And Janet Waldo who voices the grandmother in Act 4 was also the voice of Judy Jetson on The Jetsons

5.  Of the 32 different audio animatronic figures in the attraction, a crowd favorite is Rover, the family dog.  In the current show, Rover is the dog’s name the entire time.  When the attraction first opened at Walt Disney World, the dog had a different name in every scene including Buster, Sprot, Quieenie and Rover.

Now let’s sit back and enjoy Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress.  Joining me today is John B. dehaas and after the ride audio we’ll give you our shouts on this classic attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we are about to experience Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress at Walt Disney WOrld’s Magic Kingdom!

Stitch's Great Escape! - Magic Kingdom - Walt Disney World - Attraction Checklist #40

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Let's head to Tomorrowland in Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom to experience Stitch's Great Escape!  We learn a little about the attraction and then hear it in binaural audio!  Recorded on May 25, 2016.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we head to Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World to experience the Tomorrowland attraction Stitch’s Great Escape!  The guide map says: Interact with a mischievous Stitch in this dark theatre-in-the-round experience.  There is a height requirement of 40” for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes Stitch’s Great Escape! as being Dark, Scary and Loud.

1. Stitch’s Great Escape opened at The Magic Kingdom on November 16, 2004.  To celebrate the attraction’s opening, Cinderella’s Castle at Magic Kingdom was covered in toilet paper.  Supposedly a prank by Experiment 626, Stitch, himself.

2.  Stitch’s Great escape is the fourth attraction to occupy this show building in Tomorrowland.  The original right was Flight To The Moon which later became Mission to Mars.  After that, the building was home for ExtraTERRORestriel Alien Encounter.  When that ride was shuttered, Stitch’s Great Escape moved in.

3.  Several show elements from Alien Encounter remain in Stitch’s Great Escape.  Including the alien known as Skippy during the pre-show.

4.  With the attraction being based on the film Lilo and Stitch, many of the voice actors from the film reprise their roles in this attraction.  This includes Kevin MacDonald as pleakly and Chris Sanders as Stitch.  The storyline of this attraction takes place before the events of the movie.

5.  The Stitch audio animatronic built for the show stands approximately 39” tall and is, reportedly, the first audio animatronic ever to spit.

Now, let’s check out Stitch’s Great Escape.  I have edited down the audio during the transitions between rooms to make the show flow a bit quicker.  Keep listening after the attraction audio I’ll give you my thoughts on this attraction and if you have headphones, put them on now as this is a binaural recording of Stitch’s Great Escape at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.

3.  With over 6000 feet of track, California Screamin’ is currently the third longest steel roller coaster on the American Continents and the seventh longest steel coaster in the world.

4.  Since late 2010, the voice of the safety spell on this attraction is provided by Neil Patrick Harris,  Before that the spiel was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker

RELAUNCHED! Mission: SPACE Green Mission - EPCOT - Attraction Checklist #037
19:23

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - John B. deHaas and I head to EPCOT to experience the, newly opened, green mission on RELAUNCHED! Mission: SPACE!  First, we learn a little about the ride, then we ride and review this revamped attraction.   Recorded on August 13, 2017.

The attraction audio recorded for this episode is available exclusively to the Saturday Morning Media Patron Patron.  Support the show and get fun Bonus content over at http://www.patreon.com/saturdaymorningmedia

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we head to EPCOT in Walt Disney World to ride the newly opened RELAUNCHED! Mission: SPACE!  Today we’ll be experiencing the Green, less intense, version of the attraction that’s been dubbed Mission:Earth.

The guide map describes this attraction by saying Experience NASA-style training with a simulated space launch.  The Green Mission of the relaunched Mission: SPACE has a height requirement of 40” and expectant mothers should not ride.  Fastness Plus is available for this attraction.  The thrill level describes the ride as being a Spinning, Thrill Ride in the Dark, though the Green Mission does not spin.

Before we are go for launch, here are five fast facts about the green Mission of Epcot’s Relaunched! Mission: SPACE.

1. Mission: SPACE had it’s Grand Opening on October 9, 2003 though it went through a soft opening in the months before.  When it opened there was only one side experience.  It wasn’t until May of 2006 that the less intense, non-spinning Green Mission was open giving riders two ride options.

2.  At 2017’s D23 Expo, it was announced that Green Mission would be getting its own unique ride video, dubbed Mission: Earth that would debut on August 13, 2017, the date the audio for this episode was recorded.

3.  When the Relaunched! Mission: SPACE opened in August of 2017, actor Gary Sinese, who’d been the ride’s CapCom had been replaced by actress Gina Torres.

4.  The new Green Mission still gives rider assignments for the trip of Navigator, Pilot, Commander or Engineer and each rider has the opportunity to push buttons at various points on the trip.  If the riders do not push the button in time, a storyline ‘computer override’ will occur.

5.  While on the Green Mission, riders see simulated views of Earth from space including The Grand Canyon, The Hawaiian Islands, The Great Wall of China and more.  All these visuals are accompanied by a brand new musical score for the ride.

Now let’s head to EPCOT to ride the Relaunched! Mission: SPACE Green Mission.  Along for the ride is John B. dehaas and after the ride audio we’ll discuss our thoughts on this update to Mission: Space.  Also, to cut down on the episode length, some of the waiting time between ride announcements has been edited out.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we ride the Green Mission of Relaunched! Mission: SPACE at EPCOT in Walt Disney World!

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

As a companion piece to last episode, this episode we are headed to Disney California Adventure to ride The Little Mermaid - Ariel’s Undersea Adventure.  The guide map's lackluster description of this ride says, “Be part of Ariel’s world aboard this attraction!”  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the ride as bing a Loud, Dark Slow Ride.

Before we set sail, here are five fast facts about The Little Mermaid - Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure.

1.  Located in the Paradise Pier (soon to be Paradise Park) section of Disney California Adventure, The Little Mermaid - Ariel’s Undersea Adventure officially opened on June 3, 2011.  It took over the spot in the park previously occupied by Golden Dreams, a film about the history of California narrated by Whoopi Goldberg.

2.  The statue of King Triton on the attraction’s exterior was related there from the, now defunct, Triton Gardens in Disneyland.

3.  The mural that can be seen in the ride’s load area where you board your clam-mobile is 86 feet long and was painted entirely by hand.

4.  The animatronic figure of Ursula in the attraction is the biggest on the ride measuring 7 1/2 feet tall and 12 feet wide.

5.  This attraction boasts a tribute to the movie The Incredible Mr. Limpet, a film where Don Knotts turns into a fish named Mr. Limpet.  In the Under the Sea sequence of the ride, Mr. Limpett can be spotted directly across from where Ariel is dancing.

So now, let’s ride The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s’ Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure and see how it compares to Magic Kingdom’s Under The Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid.  Suzie is along for the ride today and after we ride we’ll discuss out thoughts on this attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we experience, The Little Mermaid - Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure.

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

It’s time to head to Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom and visit with Ariel on Under The Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid.  The Magic Kingdom guide map describes the ride by saying, "Descend below the waves for a splashy musical adventure."  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the ride as being a Slow Ride.  FastPass+ is available for this attraction

Before we begin flipping our fins, here are five fast facts about Under the Seas - Journey of the Little Mermaid at Magic Kingdom.

1.  Under the Sea - Journey of The Little Mermaid officially opened at Magic Kingdom on December 6, 2012.  It was built on the site of the former 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction.  Before that classic ride was removed, imagineers saved several jars of water from the 20,000 Leagues lagoon.  In a special ceremony with The Little Mermaid attraction opened, the water they’d save was aded back into the new water features as a nod to the original ride at that location.

2.  With a ride length of 5 1/2 minutes, Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid is one of the longer rides in Fantasyland.  It also boasts an interactive queue area where guests can help crabs sort out Ariel’s thingamabobs while they wait to ride the attraction.

3.  Original Little Mermaid stars Jodi Benson and Pat Carrol lend their voices to Ariel and Ursula on the attraction while Phillip Lawrence provides the voice of Sebastion and Chris Edgerly voices Scuttle.

4. The attraction reportedly boasts over 180 characters!  Most of them, around 120 characters, are featured in the Under the Sea sequence of the ride.

5.  Finally, if you’re a fan of finding hidden Mickeys in the Disney parks, this attraction boasts one of the most unique Hidden Mickeys ever.  Imagineers constructed the rocks outside the queue for the attraction in such a way that the sun creates a Hidden Mickey only once a year at noon on November 18th, Mickey Mouse’s Birthday!

Let’s hop aboard our clamshell to a pay a visit to Ariel and friends.  Along for the ride is John B. deHaas and he and I will discuss our thoughts on this attraction after the ride audio.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we experience, Magic Kingdom’s Under the Sea - The Journey of the Little Mermaid.

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

It’s time to take a drive to Cars Land at Disney California Adventure and ride Disneyland Resort's first trackless attraction, Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters.  The guide map describes this attraction in the following manner, “Luigi’s Cousins from Italy are in town to perform their favorite dances and you get to go along for the ride.”  There are no height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes as Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters as being a Thrill Ride with spinning and also cautions it as being loud.

Before we take a spin for ourselves, here are five fast facts about Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters.

1.  Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters opened in Disney California Adventure on March 7, 2016.  The attraction was a replacement for the Cars Land original attraction Luigi’s Flying Tires.

2.  As mentioned at the top of the show, this is the first attraction at Disneyland Resort to utilize a trackless vehicle system, meaning that as the cars move and spin around the quote/unquote dance floor they do so without the aid of any sort of track system.  There are 18 different paths that each car can take at any time making each ride on this attraction truly  different.

3.  The attraction features Luigi and his cousins singing several car themed takes on classic Italian songs.  The songs play randomly lending even more to that ‘every ride is different’ feel of the attraction.

4.  Half of Luigi’s cousins, the ride vehicles’ are male and the other half are female.  Grill mustaches on the male cars make it easy to tell the difference.  Each of the ride vehicles also has its own name and each of the cars is unique except for two ‘twin sister’ cars, Rosa and Gina, but even they are different as they have different color eyes.

5.  In September of 2017, it was announced that Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters would receive a Halloween Themed Makeover called Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-o-ween complete with brand new spooky songs and halloween decorations.

Now it’s time to join Luigi for his race day celebration and ride Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters.  John B. deHaas is along for the ride today and it’s his first time on this attraction.  Stay tuned after the ride audio to hear our thoughts on this attraction and this is a binaural recording, so put your headphones on now.  This is Disney California Adventures’s Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

Let’s take a trip to Disneyland’s Fantasyland and enjoy a leisurely cruise on the Storybook Land Canal Boats.  The Disneyland website describes this attraction by saying, “Cast off on a colorful canal boat for a “mini” tour of fairytale destinations seen in classic Disney animated movies.”  There are no height restrictions for this attraction and the thrill level describes the attraction as being a slow ride and a water ride.

Before we set sail, here are five fast facts about Disneyland’s Storybook Land Canal Boats.

1.  The Storybook Land Canal Boats is a Disneyland, opening day attraction.  Although when the attraction opened on July 17, 1955, it lacked the landscaping and miniature houses it is known for today.  After only two months of operation, the attraction was closed and when it reopened in June of 1956 the landscaping and miniature houses had been added.

2.  The lighthouse at the entrance to the queue line is the former ticket booth from when Disneyland guests needed tickets to ride the attractions.  In those days, the Storybook Land Canal boats were a D ticket attraction.

3.  The attraction’s fleet of electric inboard motor powered boats are each named after a Disney character including Alice, Belle, Merryweather and Wendy.

4.  As you will hear, guests on the attraction sail past miniature replicas of locations from Disney animated films including the houses of the Three little pigs, The Dwarves Cottage from Snow White and Cinderella’s Castle.  Over the years, miniature buildings from newer Disney animated films have been added to the attraction. in 1994, the Sultan’s Palace from Aladdin was added and in 2014, several buildings form the movie Frozen were added.

5.  The doors of many of the buildings guests see on this attraction actually open and close.  Not only does this add to the realism, it allows Disneyland employees to change and light bulbs that burn out inside the buildings.

Let us now set sail on our cruise of Storybook land.  Along for the ride is John B. deHaas who will be experiencing the attraction for the first time.  You’ll hear his thoughts on this Disneyland Classic as well as mine after the ride audio.  This is a binaural recording, so if you have headphones, put them on now as we experience Disneyland’s Storybook Land Canal Boats.

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we head to Disney California Adventure to experience Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout!  The guide map describes the attraction in the following manner: Join Rocket on a thrilling mission to rescue the Guardians of the Galaxy from The Collector’s fortress! Guests must be 40” or taller in order to ride this attraction and FastPasses are available.

Before we head out on our rescue mission, here are five fast facts about Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission Breakout!

1.  Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission Breakout! opened on May 27, 2017.  The attraction is a, somewhat controversial, rethemeing of the park’s Twilight Zone Tower of Terror which opened on May 5, 2004 and closed January 3rd, 2017.  Mission Breakout uses the same ride system as the previous attraction but the queue area and storyline of the ride has been completely changed.

2.  Mission: Breakout is based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe film franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy and stars the original actors from the film.  Though the attraction is somewhat linked to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the story and events of the attraction exist in their own, separate, universe called the Marvel Theme Park Universe.

3.  Keeping with the original Tower of Terror, each ride on Mission: Breakout is unique thanks to computer randomization.  Also, as guests experience the attraction, they will hear one of six random songs played from character Peter Quill’s walkman.  The six song possibilities are "Give Up The Funk" by Parliament, "Born to be Wild" by Steppenwolf, "I Want You Back" by The Jackson 5, "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" by Pat Benatar, “Free Ride" by the Edgar Winter Group and “Burning Love” by Elvis Presley.

4.  Throughout the queue area of the attraction there are several  Disney Easter Eggs hidden here and there.  These include: an invoice from X-S Tech the company behind the old Alien Encounter attraction, a tribute to Gonzo from The Muppets, and Dolores the octopus from the Country Bear Vacation Hoedown.  There are also those who say if you look at the Collector’s collection hard enough, you may just spot Figment from Walt Disney World’s EPCOT!

5.  In August 2017, it was announced that Mission: Breakout! would receive a halloween themed overlay after sunset during the halloween season at California Adventure.  The new overlay is called Guardians of the Galaxy - Monsters After Dark.  The ride features a brand new song called Monsters After Dark written by Tyler Bates, who’s scored the Guardians of the Galaxy films.

Now let’s help Rocket Raccoon free the rest of the Guardians team!  The line was extra long this day so there will be some edits in the audio so you don’t have to wait in real time.  After the ride audio I’ll give you my thoughts on the attraction as you’ll be hearing my review moments after riding for the first time.  Also, this is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we ride Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout!.

Ellen's Energy Adventure at the Universe of Energy - EPCOT - Attraction Checklist #31

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - In this episode we say goodbye to Ellen, Stupid Judy and Bill Nye the Science Guy as we ride Ellen's Energy Adventure at Walt Disney World's EPCOT. We learn a little about the attraction and then take one last ride on the final day of operation! John B. deHaas is along for the ride and after we discuss our thoughts on this attraction. Recorded on August 13, 2017.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we are going to say goodbye to a recently extinct attraction, Ellen’s Energy Adventure at the Universe of Energy Pavilion at EPCOT at Walt Disney World.  EPCOT’s guide map described the attraction in the following way: Take a multimedia romp through time and Ellen DeGeneres’ subconscious at Universe of Energy. There were no age or height requirements for this attraction.

Before we take one last ride, let’s zap through five fast facts about  on Ellen’s Energy Adventure.

1.  Ellen’s Energy Adventure was located in the Universe of Energy Pavilion in EPCOT’S Future World East.  The pavilion opened with the park on October 1, 1982.The original attraction operated until January 21, 1996 when it was closed to make way for the updated attraction, Ellen’s Energy Adventure which opened officially on September 15, 1996.  When the new version of the attraction opened, it included an audio animatronic of Ellen herself that was seen fighting off a dinosaur with a tree branch.  After November 2014, the audio animatronic stopped working and was removed never to be replaced.

2.  When the attraction opened originally it was announced that the pavilion’s roof was covered in 80,000 photovoltaic cells that partially powered the moving theatre seat ride vehicles in the attraction.  These traveling theatre cars followed guide wire in the floor instead of conventional tracks and each of the six ride vehicles could hold up to 80 people.

3.  The ride had a running time of a whopping 45 minutes from start to finish!  Hosts would often repeatedly remind guests that once they boarded the traveling theatre seats, there was no exiting the attraction until it was completed.

4.  The music for Ellen’s Energy Adventure was composed by Emmy Winner Bruce Broghton who has composed music for other EPCOT attractions such as Spaceship Earth, O’ Canada and Soarin’ Around the World.

5.  Ellen’s Energy Adventure had it’s final day of operation on August 13, 2017.  This is when the audio for this episode was recorded.  Luckily it wasn’t recorded on the final ride of the day because the attraction broke down on it’s final ride and guests had walk out of the ride on foot.

Now it’s time to take one last ride on Ellen’s Energy Adventure.  Along for this final journey is my friend John B. deHaas and after we ride we’ll discuss our thoughts on this, now extinct, attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we experience EPCOT’S Ellen’s Energy Adventure.

The Seas with Nemo & Friends - EPCOT - Attraction Checklist #30

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

It’s time to put on our diving gear and head back to Future World in EPCOT to experience The Seas With Nemo & Friends.  The Guidemap describe this attraction by saying, “Ride alongside characters from Disney Pixar’s ‘Finding Nemo,’ then surround yourself with thousands of real sea creatures at the Undersea Observation Deck at SeaBase.  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and FastPass+ is available.  It should be noted that though we will just bee hearing the ride audio in this episode, The Seas with Nemo & Friends is the name of the entire pavilion, including all the aquarium exhibits.

We will touch on this as we explore five fast facts about The Seas with Nemo & Friends!

1. The Pavilion that houses The Seas with Nemo & Friends was originally called The Living Seas and opened on January 15, 1986,  Beginning in December of 2003, the pavilion was slowly re-themed based on the film Finding Nemo.  This changeover was officially completed when the entire pavilion was rededicated on January 24, 2007.

2.  Though it is no longer the case, at the time it was built, the aquarium portion of the pavilion had the largest saltwater tank in the world holding 5.7 million US gallons of water.  Though it is no longer the largest in the world, the tank is so big, the entirety of Spaceship Earth could fit inside of it!

3.  The ride portion of the pavilion, where guests follow along while Marlin and Dory search for Nemo, roughly follows the same track as the pavilion’s previous ride, The Seacabs.  The Seacab track was lengthened by 280 feet for the new Nemo attraction and the Seacabs were replaces by Clammobiles.

4. One of the most impressive ride effects is the finale where it appears as if the characters from Finding Nemo are actually swimming inside the pavilion’s giant aquarium.  This effect is possible thanks to a brand new projection technique that was developed exclusively for this attraction.

5.  The ride ends with the cast singing the song ‘Big Blue World.’  This tune was adapted from the Finding Nemo Musical at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Now it’s time to experience the ride portion of The Seas with Nemo & friends.  Along for the ride is John B. deHaas and after the ride audio we’ll discuss our thoughts on this attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we experience The Seas with Nemo & Friends at Epcot in Walt Disney World!

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we revisit an attraction we’ve experienced before that got a bit of a refresh.  We are headed to Disney California Adventure to ride Soarin’ Around the World.  The Guidemap describes Soarin’ Around The World by saying; Soar and swoop over famous landmarks.  Guests must be 40” or taller to experience this attraction and the thrill level describes the ride as being Loud, Dark, Slow and having Small Drops.  FastPasses are available for this attraction.

Before we buckle up for take off, here are five fast facts about Soarin’ Around The World.

1. Soarin’ Around The World at Disney California Adventure is an updated version of the classic Soarin’ over California attraction.  A new film was introduced at Disney California Adventure on June 17, 2016.

2.  The updated version of the film matches the films at both Shanghai Disneyland and Epcot at Walt Disney World however each movie has a different finale scene where you soar over the respective parks that the attraction is in.  The Disney California Adventure version features a flyover of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle at Disneyland, while while the Shanghai version features a flyover Shanghai and the EPCOT version features a pass by Spaceship Earth.

3.  The new film features a brand new score by Emmy winner Bruce Broughton, but it has elements of the original attraction’s score that had music by Jerry Goldsmith.  The score was recorded by the London Studio Orchestra at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London.

4. Locations visited on the update attraction now feature landmarks such as the Great Wall of China, the Eiffel Tower and The Great Pyramids in Egypt.

5.  The smells on the attraction have been updated as well.  Now the smells of grass in Africa, the ocean of the South Pacific and roses of the Taj Mahal fill your nose as you soar above the various landmarks.

Along for the ride today is my friend John B. deHaas and you will hear our review of the updated attraction moments after we stepped off of it for the first time.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we experience Disney California Adventure’s Soarin’ Around The World.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT

We've got something a little different this episode as we take a look at a classic Walt Disney World attraction that is not inside one of the four parks but on the waters of Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon!  It is the Electrical Water Pageant!  It’s not listed in any guide maps, but it is described on the Walt Disney World website in the following manner: Great sea creatures and twinkling flags cross the lagoon to electronic tunes in this playful nighttime water parade.

Before we experience this nighttime classic, here are five fast facts about Walt Disney World’s Electrical Water Pageant.

1. The 15 Minute Long Electrical Water Pageant debuted on Monday, October 25, 1971 making it one of the few original opening year shows that is still running at Walt Disney World.

2. The Electrical Water Pageant consists of 14 floats which contain over 50,000 light bulbs to light up the parade’s turtles, whales, octopus and sea serpent!  It is said that crews replace anywhere from 100 to 1500 bulbs a week to keep the floats in tip top shape.

3. Guests today can see the same floats in the same order dating back to 1977

4. The Electrical Water Pageant runs up to six times a night at various locations on the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake.  Guests can watch from locations including the Polyneasian resort, Fort Wilderness Campground and Disney’s contemporary hotel.

5. The electrical Water Pageant was the inspiration behind the Main Street Electrical Parade!  The music piece Baroque Hoedown which is commonly associated with the Main Street Electrical Parade was originally featured in the Electrical Water Pageant!

Now it’s time to light up the night with the the Electrical Water Pageant.  If you have headphones, put them on now as this is a binaural recording.  And stay tuned after the audio to hear my thoughts on this attraction as you’ll be hearing my first time experiencing Walt Disney World’s Electrical Water Pageant.

This episode we are headed back to Disney’s Animal Kingdom to Pandora to hop on the Na’vi River Journey.  The souvenir guidemap describes the Na’vi River Journey as follows: Journey deep into the bioluminescent rainforest in search of the Na’vi Shaman of Songs.  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and FastPass+ is available.

Before we search for the Shaman of Songs, here are five fast facts about the Na’vi River Journey.

1. The Na’vi Rivier Journey, based on James Cameron’s movie Avatar, had several soft opening previews, but officially opened at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on May 27, 2017.

2. The winding queue area features textiles created by the Na’vi as well as totems to the Shaman of Songs.

3. The ceiling of the main queue area features a woven map of the Kaspavan river and at night, this map lights up and shows ‘real time’ representations of the various life forms moving along the river.

4.  The 4 and a half minute long river journey features layered projections of various Pandora natives and wildlife coupled with actual sets and video projection mapping technology to make creatures seem three dimensional.

5.  The finale of the attraction features a float past the Shaman of Songs.  There is not much information available about the building of the Shaman of songs animatronic other than it is the most complex animatronic Walt Disney Imagineering has ever created.  Walt Disney Imagineering Executive producer Lisa Girolami says of the animatronic, “…the key is we don't stop until that technology can't be seen. It should be invisible, so when you see the Shaman she does look lifelike.”

And now that we know a little more about the Na’vi River Journey, let’s hop aboard our boat and experience the attraction for ourselves.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now and stay tuned after the ride to hear my initial impressions of the Na’Vi River Journey at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

This episode we are going to Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World to enjoy the classic disney attraction, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover presented by Alamo.  The guide map describes this attraction by saying:  Ride this emission-free mass transit system of the future.  There are no height or age requirements for this ride and the thrill level is describes the ride as being a slow ride.

Before we embark on our journey around Tomorrowland, here are five fast facts about the Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover:

1. This attraction, originally called the WEDWay PeopleMover, opened on July 1, 1975.  It was based on the PeopleMover at Disneyland Park in California.  In 1994, when tomorrowland was receiving a complete overhaul, the name of the ride was changed to the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover.

2. The Tomorrowland Transit Authority is powered magnetically with linear induction motors making it completely emissions free.

3. The narration for the current version of the  Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMovier is provided by Mike Brassell who also serves as narrator for the Living With The Land attraction at EPCOT.

4.  One of the highlights of any ride on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemver is passing by the model for Progress City.  The portion of the model seen on the attraction today is just a small part of the original model which served as the preview for Walt Disney’s vision for EPCOT.

5.  While your Peoplemover vehicle travels through Space Mountain, you hear a page for Mr. Tom Morrow to contact a Mr. Johnson.  Tom Morrow was a character in the former tomorrowland attraction Flight to the Moon.  When the same attraction was renamed Flight to Mars, the character of Tom Morrow was renamed Mr. Johnson

And now it’s time to ride the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover.  Joining us again today is John deHaas and after we ride we’ll discuss our thoughts on this classic Magic Kingdom attraction.  If you have headphones, put them on now as this is a binaural recording of the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we head to Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World for The Muppets Present…Great Moments In American History.  Located in the Liberty Square section of the park, The Muppets do retellings of famous moments from American History in the windows above Liberty Square’s Heritage House and The Hall of Presidents.  Because this is a show there are no age or height restrictions to view it.

Before we get an education in American History from Sam The Eagle, here are five fast facts about The Muppets Presents…Great Moments in American History.

1.  The show debuted at the Magic Kingdom on October 2, 2016.  Great Moments in History features two alternating famous historical retellings.  The retelling of the Declaration of independence features the human character of Liberty Square’s Town Crier, James Jefferson or JJ for short, who solicits interactions from the crowd gathered to watch the show.  The other show centers around the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere and stars the Muppets on their own.

2.   The show began development in 2014 after the release of Muppets Most Wanted.  Originally the show was just going to feature Sam The Eagle on his own but it was decided that the show would be more fun if the other Muppet characters were added in.

3. Because the bulk of Muppets’ performance takes place in the second story windows of Liberty Square’s Heritage House, the Muppets puppets are built 5% bigger than they normally would be for film and television in order to be properly seen by audiences watching from below.

4.  Longtime Muppet script writer, Jim Lewis, was brought in to polish the scripts for the show to make sure they fit with the classic Muppet sensibility.

5. Though they are not doing the puppeteering themselves, the voices of the Muppets are provided by longtime Muppet performers Steve Whitmire as Kermit, Eric Jacobson as Sam The Eagle, Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear and Dave Goelz as Gonzo.

Now let’s head to Liberty Square to hear The Muppets retelling of two great moment of american history, the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere and The Signing of the Declaration of independence.  And be sure to Stay tuned afterwards  to hear my thoughts on these shows.  As always, this is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we head to the Magic Kingdom for The Muppets Present…Great Moments in American History.

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

Today we head to EPCOT to experience the signature attraction of the Mexico Pavilion in World Showcase, the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the There Caballeros! The guide map describes this ride by saying, “Discover the sights of Mexico and the antics of three feathered amigos on this boat ride.”  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level simply describes this ride as a Slow Ride.

Before we go out and search for Donald Duck with Jose and Panchito, here are five fast facts about this attraction!

1.  The Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros opened on April 6, 2007, replacing the Mexico Pavilion’s original attraction El Rio del Tiempo.  The Gran Fiesta Tour keeps the same layout as the original ride but adds animated film sequences starring The Three Caballeros.

2.   The addition of The Three Caballeros to the ride marked the first time that Disney made the, somewhat controversial decision, to add pre-existing characters into attractions in the World Showcase at EPCOT.  A decision that has continued with Frozen Ever After in the Norway pavilion.

3. The voices of the Three Caballeros are performed by Tony Anselmo as Donald, Rob Paulson as José and Carlos Alazraqui as Panchito.

4.  The center section of the attraction, known as the Festival of Children, features animatronics of singing and dancing children very reminiscent of It’s A Small World.  This portion of the Gran Fiesta Tour is pretty much the same as it was back when the ride was known as El Rio del Tiempo.

5. On December 15, 2015, animatronics of the Three Caballeros were installed in the show’s finale.  The animatronics were reused from the Magic Kingdom attraction the Mickey Mouse Revue which was closed to make way for Mickey’s PhilharMagic in Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland.

Now it’s time to ride the Gran Fiesta Tour.  Along for the ride is John B. deHaas and after we ride we will give you our thoughts on this attraction.  Also, this is a binaural recording, so if you have headphones put them on now as we head to EPCOT’S Mexico Pavilion to ride the Gran Fiesta Tour starring The Three Caballeros.

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we’ve got something for the younger fans as we check out the recently shuttered Disney Junior - Live on Stage! at Disney California Adventure.  This guide map describes the show by saying, ’Sing and Dance with your favorite Disney Junior Characters!'  There are no age or height requirements for this show and each production lasts roughly 23 minutes.

Before we visit Mickey and his friends, here are five fast facts about Disney Junior - Live on Stage!

1.  Disney Junior - Live on Stage! opened at Disney California Adventure on April 11, 2003 under the name Playhouse Disney Live.  The show replaced the ABC Soap Opera Bistro, a restaurant that featured sets from famous ABC Soap Operas.

2.   The original version of the show that opened in 2003 was the same as the Playhouse Disney Live show that was running at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida.  It featured characters from Bear In The Big Blue House, Rolie Polie Olie, Stanley and The Book of Pooh.

3. Over the years, the show has featured characters from other Playhouse Disney/Disney Junior shows including Jojo’s Circus, Handy Manny and Little Einsteins.  The current iteration of the show that we’ll hear today features Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Sofia the First, Doc McStuffins and Jake and the Never Land Pirates.

4.  A team of six puppeteers are cast for each show and they manipulate over twenty different puppets of the various characters who interact with the show’s human host and the audience.

5. All the characters in the show are voiced by their original voice actors including Corey Burton doing his incredible version of Hans Conried’s Captain Hook.

Now it’s time to visit the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse at Disney Junior - Live on Stage!  Stay tuned afterwards as I give my thoughts on the show as you’ll be experiencing it with me as I watch for the very first time.  Also, this is a binaural recording, so if you have headphones put them on now as we enjoy Disney California Adventure’s Disney Junior - Live on Stage!

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

Today we take a ride on one of the most instantly recognizable Disney Park attractions anywhere, EPCOT’S Spaceship Earth.

On this attraction you will, as the guide map states, Explore the history of innovations from the stone age to the Digital Age.  This attraction is open to guests of any age and there are no height requirements.  The Thrill Level for this attraction describes it as being Dark and a Slow Ride.  Fastpass+ is available for this attraction.

Before we thank the Phoenicians, here are five fast facts about Spaceship Earth.

1.  The 15 minute long dark ride that is Spaceship Earth is an EPCOT opening day attraction, beginning operation on October 1, 1982.

2.   The geodesic sphere which houses Spaceship Earth is a whopping 18 stories high.  The sphere took 26 months to build and was designed with the help of science fiction writer Ray Bradbury who also helped write the attraction’s original narration.

3. Since opening in 1982, the attraction has had four narrators. Actor Lawrence Dobkin, news anchor Walter Cronkite, Actor Jeremy Irons and, currently, actress Dame Judi Dench.

4.  A 63 piece orchestra and 24 voice choir conducted by Emmy winner Bruce Broughton provide the soundtrack for Spaceship Earth.  Each scene of the attraction features music styles and instruments appropriate to the era and each piece transitions seamlessly into the next.

5.  One of the most memorable moments of the attraction is the top when your car spins to reveal planet earth among the stars.  In the early days of the attraction, this spin was done by hand by a cast member who stood at the top of the dome and spun the cars manually.  These days the spin is done automatically within the ride system.

And now, let's ride Spaceship Earth.  John B. deHaas is along for the ride today and afterwards we will discuss our thoughts on this attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we experience, EPOCT'S Spaceship Earth.

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

Lights, camera action!  It’s time to head to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and enjoy the park’s iconic attraction, The Great Movie Ride!  Located in the Hollywood Boulevardd section of the park, the Great Movie Ride is described in the guide map in the following manner:  Journey into some of Hollywood’s most famous films.  This attraction is open to guests of any age and there are no height requirements.  Fastness plus is available for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the ride as being Dark, Scary and a slow ride.

Before films starts rolling, here are five fast facts about The Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

1.  The 22 minute long Great Movie Ride is an opening day attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and officially began operation on May 1, 1989.

2.   The Great Movie Ride is unique in that, on busy days, guests will experience one of two ‘takeovers’ of their ride vehicle.  If the ride vehicle is stopped in the western section off the attraction, the vehicle will be taken over by an outlaw named Kate Durango or Kid Carson.  If the ride vehicle is stopped in the gangster section of the ride, it will be commandeered by a gangster named mugsy.  Both the Outlaws or the gangster will force the regular tour operator out of the vehicle and continue on as the vehicle’s operator until the surprise return of the car’s starting operator.

3. As the ride vehicle enters the Raiders of the Lost Ark segment of the attraction, keep as sharp eye on hyrogliphics on the walls of the room.  One panel has hyrogliphic figures of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck and another features star wars characters R2D2 and C3PO

4.  n the Casablanca scene, the front half of a real Lockheed Model 12 Electra Junior plane can be seen.  Imagineers didn’t just throw away the back half of the plane because it wasn’t needed.  You can see the back half of the plane if you head over to the Magic Kingdom where it can be spotted in the jungle of the Jungle Cruise Attraction.

5.  In 2014, Turner Classic Movies became the sponsor of the Great Movie Ride and on May 29, 2015, the ride reopened with new on ride narration by TCM host Robert Osborne.  Rober Osborne passed away in 2017, but the attraction with his narration is what we will be listening to today.

Now it’s time to experience The Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  The main attraction audio we hear today will be the version where the gangster takes over the ride vehicle.  Ride audio from the attraction where the outlaw takes over the vehicle will be included the bonus audio available to the Saturday Morning Media Patreon Patrons who pledge at any level.  Stick around after the ride audio presented hear to hear my thoughts on this classic Walt Disney World attraction.  But for now, put on headphones because this is a binaural recording of the Disney’s Hollywood Studios attraction, The Great Movie Ride.

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we are heading to Disney California Adventure for our first ever attraction double header as we ride two attractions in one episode!

First we’ll attend a wild band concert on the Silly Symphony Swings.  Located in the Paradise Pier section of the park, the Silly Symphony Swings are described in the guide in the following manner:  Enjoy boardwalk fun at its swinging best.  The Thrill level describes the attraction accurately as a spinning ride and it does have a height requirement in that guests need to be 40” or taller to ride.

After the Silly Symphony Swings, we’re going to head over to the Jumping’ Jellyfish attraction.  Also located in Paradise Pier, this ride is described in the guide map in this way:  Drop down through a colorful forest of kelp.  The thrill level warns that this attraction features Small Drops and it also has the 40” or taller height requirement on it.

Before our feet leave the ground for these two attractions, here are five fast facts about the Silly Symphony Swings and Jumping Jellyfish.

1.  Jumping’ Jellyfish is a California Adventure opening day attraction, beginning operation on February 8, 2001.  Silly Symphony Swings officially opened on June 11, 2010, but it replaced a similar attraction called the Orange Stinger which was basically the same ride but enclosed in a giant orange.

2.   Silly Symphony Sings is themes to the 1935 cartoon, The Band Concert where Mickey conducts an orchestra during the middle of tornado.  When the ride opened in 2010, it coincided with the 75th anniversary of the cartoon!

3.  The mild Jumping’ Jellyfish attraction at California Adventure has a sister attraction, also named Jumping’ Jellyfish, at Tokyo DisneySea in Japan.  The version at Tokyo DisneySea opened a few month after it’s California counterpart on September 4, 2001.

4.  The two music pieces heard during your ride on Silly Symphony Swings are both by William Tell.  The soundtrack includes his famous Overture and his classic piece entitled The Storm

5. Though they do so in much different ways, both attractions lift riders 40 feet off the ground and both have a ride time of generally about a minute and thirty seconds.

With me today for this special double header is my friend John B. deHaas and after we ride we’ll discuss our thoughts on this classic Disneyland attraction.  If you have headphones, put them on now as this trip is a binaural recording.  And now let’s ride Silly Symphony Swings and Jumping’ Jellyfish at Disney California adventure.

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we are taking a ride on Snow White’s Scary Adventures at Disneyland.  This dark ride is described in the guide map as follows:  Hop inside a mine cart and follow the path of Snow White as she flees into the dark forest to avoid the wrath of the evil Queen. There is no height requirement for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the ride as being Loud, Dark, Scary and a slow ride.

Before we head into the forest to find snow white, here are five fast facts about Snow White’s Scary Adventures

1.  Snow White’s Scary adventures is an opening day attraction that began operation on July 17, 1955.  Back then though, the ride was called Snow White’s Adventures.  The ride got its new name in 1983.

2.  Snow white didn’t actually appear in the ride until 1983 as well!  When the ride opened in 1995, the imagineers had designed the ride to make it feel as if the guests themselves were Snow White going through the forest and avoiding the evil queen.  Many guests questioned where Snow White was, so in 1983, the ride was changed to include snow white, though she only appears in the attraction once.

3.  One of the signature effects of the attraction is the transformation of the evil queen into the old hag.  This effect is achieved by haven two figures separated by a sheet of glass that is standing in for an actual mirror.

4.  The ride vehicles for the attraction are each randomly named after one of the seven dwarves.

5.  For years after the ride opened, guests were swiping one of the apples that the witch would hold out as they passed by.  When the ride was revamped in 1983, an effect was created to make it seem as if the apple was there but if guests reach out for it, their hands go right through!

Now, let’s visit Snow White and the Seven Dwarves on Snow White’s Scary Adventures.  On the ride with me today is John B. deHaas and after we ride we’ll discuss our thoughts on this classic Disneyland attraction.  If you have headphones, put them on now as we experience this binaural ride through of Snow White’s Scary Adventures.

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we head to Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World and ride one of the park’s iconic attractions, The Haunted Mansion.

Located in Liberty Square, The Haunted Mansion is described in the guide map in the following manner: Take a spine tingling tour of this dark, haunted estate.  There are no height or age requirements for this attraction and FastPass+ is available.  The thrill level is describes The Haunted Mansion as being a Dark Ride and Slow Ride.

Before we hitch hike a doom buggy to the spirit world, here are five fast facts about The Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World.

1.  The Haunted Mansion is an opening day attraction at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World and marks it’s 45th year of operation in 2016.

2.  While sharing very similar scenes to it’s California counterpart, the Haunted Mansion in Florida has a few extra scenes that required extra narration by the Ghost Host, voiced by the legendary Paul Frees.

3.  In 2007, the attraction received a major refurbishment which added several new elements including the ‘M.C. Esher-esqu’ staircase room, a floating cruystal ball for Madame Leota, and the addition of Constanse Hathaway, the Black Widow Bride in the attic scene.

4.  In 2011, the ride received a new queue area where guests can interact with various tombstones and even talk back to the spirits.  That same year, the ride received a major upgrade in the Hitchhiking Ghosts sequence where the three ghosts now appear to physically interact with guests as they near the end of the attraction.

5.  One of the iconic scenes of the Haunted Mansion is the stretching room sequence.  At Disneyland in California, the floor of the Stretching Room lowers, serving as an elevator to bring guests underground to board the attraction.  At Walt Disney World, where they had more space to build the attraction, an elevator was not needed, so the ceiling rises to create the illusion of the room stretching.

Now, let’s bravely head to the Magic Kingdom’s to meet the 999 ghostly occupants of the Haunted Mansion.  After the ride audio, I’ii share my thoughts on the attraction and I’d love to hear YOUR thoughts on it as well over at the  Attraction Checklist Facebook page at facebook.com/attractionchecklist..  This is a binaural recording, so if you have headphones put them on now because we are about to experience, the Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This time we’ve got something every special for you, the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade to Disneyland park!  This audio was recorded on January 19, 2017 as the parade made it’s return to it’s birthplace at a special premiere event.  The parade is currently describe in the guide by saying Catch this classic nighttime parade filled with fanciful floats and toe-tappin’ tunes for a limited time―it fades away June 18, 2017!  As this is a parade, it is open to all ages and there is no height requirement, though if you want to see the parade up front you’ll want to snag a viewing spot along the parade route early.

Before we experience this spectacular festival pagent of nighttime magic and imagination.

1. The Main Street Electrical Parade debuted at Disneyland on June 17, 1972 and it ran at the park until November 25, 1996.

2.  The parade was created to be a West Coast version of the Electrical Water Pageant that has run at Walt Disney World in Florida since October 26, 1971.  The Water Pagent features barges with light up screens depicting a sea serpent, jumping dolphins, a turtle and more.  Instead of traveling down Main Street, these floats travel on barges on the Seven Seas Lagoon.

3.  According to then director of show development  Ronald Miziker, all 500,000 light bulbs in the original parade needed to be hand-tinted which required dipping each on in the appropriate colored paint.

4. The Main Street Electrical parade is known for its iconic music.  The underlying theme is called Baroque Hoedown and was originally created by early synthesizer pioneers Jean-Jaques Perrey and Gershon Kingsley.

5.  The Main Street Electrical parade was the firs tin Disney Park history to use an automated parade show control program that allowed the parade route to have different radio activated zones that allowed for float specific music and sound to be triggered as the floats passed by.  This si a technique still used in Disney parks today.

Now it’s time to sit back and enjoy the return of the Main Street Electrical parade as it returns to Disneyland for the first time in over 20 years.  Watching the parade with me is the man who inspired this very podcast you’re listening to, Window To the Magic’s Paul Barrie and after the parade we will discuss out thoughts on this returning attraction.  Once again, this is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them in as we enjoy the Main Street Electrical Parade!

INTRO TRANSCRIPT

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

Today we are going to visit the open house at the Imagination Institute as we ride Journey Into Imagination with Figment located in EPCOT’s future Word west at Walt Disney World in Florida.  The guide map describes this attraction by saying ‘Follow Figment in this whimsical open house tour of the Imagination Institute’.  This is a Dark, slow ride according to the the Thrill Level and it is open to guests of all ages and heights.  Fastness plus is offered.

Before we meet up with Dr. Nigel Channing, here are five fast facts about Journey Into Imagination with Figment.

1. Journey into imagination with Figment opened on June 2, 2002.  This attraction is the third version of the attraction housed in Imagination Pavilion at EPCOT.  The original Journey Into Imagination opened on March 5, 1983.  It closed on October 10, 1998 for renovation and reopened on October 1, 1999 as Journey into Your Imagination which only lasted two years before it was closed on October 8, 2001 to make way for the latest incarnation.

2. For the ride, Eric Idle reprises his role of Dr. Nigel Channing from the Honey, I Shrunk The Kids Franchise.  The original voice of Figment, Billy Barty passed away in 2000 so Dave Goelz was hired to portray the new Figment.  If Dave Goelz’s name isn’t familiar, you certainly know of one of his other alter egos, Gonzo from The Muppets.

3. Journey Into Imagination with Figment marked the return of the Sherman Brother’s song One Little Spark.  This song featured prominently in the original Journey into imagination attraction but was removed for Journey into Your imagination which drew a lot of criticism from fans.

4. There are several references to other Disney movies in this attraction including The Absent Minded Professor, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes and Honey I Shrunk The Kids.

5. The ride also features some tributes to the classic Journey Into Imagination attraction.  Many animatronics and figures of Figment feature prominently in the ride and the reapperaing/dissapearing butterfly from the original can be seen as well.  There’s also a brief tribute to The Dreamfinder, the ride’s original host.

Now, lets visit the Imagination institute and take a ride on Journey Into Imagination With Figment.  John B. deHaas is along for the ride today and after the ride audio, we’ll discuss our thoughts on this attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we set our imaginations free on EPCOT’S Journey Into Imagination with Figment.
