33:26
This episode of AWAKENING takes you through an exploration of your core values. What are the values that really matter to you, that make life most meaningful for you, and that you want to uphold in everything you do and how you live your life? We'll talk about how to uncover your core values and how to identify when you're straying away from those values - based on how you feel emotionally, physically, and spiritually. I also read some thoughtful words from one of my students, Richard, who generously agreed to share his core values with us. Inner Work 155: When your manifestation isn't fulfilling you anymore
36:55
In this episode of INNER WORK, I talk about the experience of falling out of alignment with something you've manifested - whether it's a relationship, a job, a house, a place to live, or something else. It can be disheartening to no longer be fulfilled by something you wanted to manifest for a long time, or for it not to feel as you expected it to. How can you course correct and pivot into another, different manifestation if this happens? Let's explore that together. I'll give you a set of prompts to reflect on which part of you desired this manifestation in the first place, and what your Higher Self might be calling you towards now. I also share a new technique to connect to your Akashic Records - in case you want to use the Records to explore the prompts. AWAKENING: Walking the path to self-love
38:25
Taking honest inventory of where you are today, how much are you loving yourself? How much self-love and self-nourishment do you give yourself? In this episode, I answer a listener email about how to cultivate a deeper capacity for self-love. We'll cover how self-love - and a lack of self-love - looks like in our inner dialogue, in relationships and friendships, and even in interactions with strangers. AWAKENING: Journey with me into the Akashic Records
46:26
In this special episode, I introduce you to the Akashic Records - what they are, how they work, and how we can use them to heal ourselves and transcend ego patterns. I was first introduced to the Akashic Records as a teenager by my mom (a therapist and healer), and have been working with them on a daily basis for most of my adult life. I became certified as an Akashic Records Practitioner and started giving readings to others in 2012, and have since developed a unique curriculum for my own Akashic Records Certification Program. In my time using the Records - both for my personal healing and to assist others with their evolution - I've been delighted, awed, deeply moved, transformed, and continually fascinated by their power, benevolence, and wisdom. In this episode, I invite you to learn more about the Akashic field and how tapping into this field we call "the Records" can help you awaken and become who you REALLY are. As a companion resource for this episode, I've created a guided healing journey into the Akashic Records. I'll guide you into a meditative, receptive state and we will open your Records together. You'll have a chance to ask a specific question (or focus on an issue you want to shift) and receive healing on all levels - mental, spiritual, emotional, physical. To access this resource, please go to: https://josephinehardman.com/resources/ You can also visit https://josephinehardman.com for other ways of working together. Please send feedback or suggestions/questions for future episodes to me@josephinehardman.com Thank you for being here! Inner Work 152: Why the Trauma Response is Never Wrong with MaryCatherine McDonald, PhD
46:42
My guest for this episode is MaryCatherine McDonald, a research professor and life coach who specializes in the psychology and philosophy of trauma. She has been researching, lecturing, and publishing on the neuroscience, psychology, and lived experience of trauma since completing her PhD in 2016. While engaging with trauma academically, MaryCatherine experienced the loss of her parents - a significant event that required her to apply her knowledge and insights regarding trauma to herself. In this interview, we talk about the important ways in which MaryCatherine believes we must re-define trauma and our approach for healing it. I (Josephine) share a bit of my immigration trauma story, and MaryCatherine helps me better understand my own healing process. AWAKENING: Discernment in seeking out spiritual healers and teachers
30:21
Working with a healer or teacher on your path of awakening can be an empowering, helpful, very supportive experience. Healers and teachers can help us grow beyond our limits and address blindspots or work through things we might not be able to heal on our own. At the same time, it's important to be discerning when you seek out a new healer, teacher, or spiritual modality. Just because someone or something is labeled "spiritual" doesn't mean it is necessarily aligned with you, or free of ego. In this episode, I share some ideas about potential issues or red flags you might look for when seeking out a new healer, teacher, or healing modality. Please follow your intuition and gut feelings, and never allow anyone to pressure you into working with them! AWAKENING: Dealing with money and finances on the spiritual path
42:11
Although you are primarily an Infinite Being of Light, you're also incarnated into a physical, human body. On the 3D human plane, money is a necessary currency - to keep yourself alive, to feed yourself, to shelter yourself, to make things happen in the world. In this episode of AWAKENING, I answer a listener email about how to shift into a mindset of abundance, create a healthy relationship with money, and forgive ourselves for any past financial mistakes or missteps. I also address why it's best not to demonize money or see it as evil. Ultimately, it's not money that corrupts us. What can corrupt us is an unchecked ego, which seeks to accumulate more and more and constantly fears lack or tries to assert its power over others. Inner Work 148: Returning to the World of Silence in Your Heart
35:49
When you listen with your heart instead of your head or human ears, what do you hear? What do you perceive and know? This episode of INNER WORK is all about the frequency, resonance, and deep knowing of your heart. Your heart holds a powerful seed of silence, healing, wisdom, and connection to all that is - to every other Soul in this Universe. So how do you tune out of the human world of noise, confusion, and (often) chaos to return to the healing silence of your heart? Join me for a discussion of this, as I invite you to become a more heart-centered being. This topic was inspired by a beautiful, meaningful, mystical poem by healer and artist Kathryn Wyatt. 36:44
This episode of INNER WORK is a spiritual exploration of hunger, desire, and how we relate to food. Inner Work 138: Using your brain to heal your body with Ashok Gupta of The Gupta Program
42:43
This episode is very important if you have any type of chronic or mystery illness where conventional medicine has been unable to help you. If you're in that situation, or know of someone who is, the information offered here will be invaluable! Personal note from Josephine: I myself have been using The Gupta Program to heal a hard-to-treat illness called Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), which I've had for 6 years. I wanted to commit myself to this program for a solid 3-4 months before recommending it. I am now recommending it because IT WORKS. Ashok Gupta is the creator of The Gupta Program. His life was interrupted in his early 20s when he was struck down with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and conventional medicine was unable to help. He set out to do his own neurological and health research, and recovered himself 100%. This research, and everything he learned along the way, became the basis of The Gupta Program - a revolutionary neuroplasticity, mindfulness, and holistic health program for chronic conditions including:
In this interview, Ashok explains how these types of conditions are created and how you can heal them at the root level - the brain. We talk about neuroplasticity, how the brain gets stuck in loops that promote dis-ease and imbalance in the body, and how to create new pathways in the brain to emerge out of those unhealthy loops. AWAKENING: Your birthright is to thrive, not just survive
27:29
On the path of awakening, you can sometimes feel stuck in survival mode. You might use this mode as a coping mechanism, if you learned early on in life that you need to be tough, to put up with things, and to survive. In this episode, I answer a listener's email about how to emerge out of survival mode and begin thriving. Join me for a discussion on:

I've sometimes heard from people that the Tarot is evil, and that using Tarot cards opens us up to negative forces and energies. I have also met people who are afraid of using the Tarot for these kinds of reasons. Is there any veracity to this? AWAKENING: What are you allowing to take up residence in you?
30:14
Your physical body is like a container for your Soul and Higher Self. But what happens when you've filled up this container with too many intrusive "guests", and your Higher Self is unable to anchor into your body? Why is it important to be able to fully embody your Higher Self? That's what we'll explore in this episode of AWAKENING. Some of the intrusive or unwelcome guests that can occupy your body and energy field include the Overachiever, the Fixer, the Victim, and the Approval Seeker. These are subpersonalities, or limited aspects of you that can get triggered by certain situations and people. Join me for a conversation on:

Inner Work 129: Shifting from the ego paradigm to the Akashic paradigm
29:55
How do the Akashic Records work, and how can you access them? What are the Akashic Records made of? Where are they located? What is the Akashic Field? To answer such questions, this episode of Inner Work takes you into the research of Ervin Laszlo, a Hungarian philosopher and systems theorist who has written extensively about the Akashic Field (or A-field). I cover the 3 immutable laws that govern the Akashic Field, and how those laws can be applied in your daily life to reach higher levels of consciousness and evolution. This then leads into a discussion about what it means to shift from an ego-based paradigm to an Akashic paradigm of living and being. I quote from Laszlo's book The Immutable Laws of the Akashic Field throughout this episode. AWAKENING: Leaving behind the things you've outgrown
23:09
The process of awakening will cause you to outgrow certain situations, relationships, people, habits, and ways of thinking/being. This happens naturally as you evolve and shed old, outdated layers of yourself. In this episode, partly inspired by the 8 of Cups from the Tarot, I talk about this process of outgrowing things and people and how it can bring up some deep fears of losing your identity, status, and the life you've been building for years or even decades. AWAKENING: Navigating choice points as a spiritual practice
25:55
There are so many choices you make every day, from the mundane and minor to life-defining choices. This episode of AWAKENING is all about using the choice points you face every day as a kind of spiritual practice - as an opportunity to notice what you're choosing for yourself as well as which parts of you are informing your decision-making. Bringing more consciousness to this can help you slow down and make the most aligned, supportive, and life-affirming choices. For some specific examples, we'll look at how you're navigating choices around food, rest, and sticking to a daily spiritual practice or routine (and what happens when resistance comes up or if you have conflicting parts of you pulling you in two directions). In this episode, I mention my goal to keep the podcast ad-free indefinitely. Inner Work 127: A Deep Dive into Shadow Work
34:36
What is shadow work? And how can you do it responsibly and effectively? This episode of Inner Work explores the shadow as a "dark aspect of the personality", in the words of Carl Jung. Your shadows are aspects of yourself that, for whatever reason, you've deemed as unacceptable or shameful. And so you repress these aspects into the subconscious. However, your unexamined and un-integrated shadows will continue to make themselves known and influence your behavior in one way or another. So, this episode addresses:

AWAKENING: Coming to terms with childhood losses
31:14
This episode of AWAKENING focuses on all kinds of childhood losses, from the seemingly minor to the life-altering. I talk about some of the intangible childhood losses that might still be impacting you today - for instance, the loss of childhood innocence or playfulness if you were forced to grow up too fast. This episode also defines childhood losses as anything that, ideally, you should've been given as a child but - for whatever reasons - was not provided. Some essential things that were not provided might include a feeling of safety and belonging, comfort, encouragement, the soothing presence of an emotionally stable caregiver, and unconditional support. I share how I've been coping with some of my own childhood losses (related to moving away from my home country at age 11) and suggest a few practices for you to work through yours. For example, I mention working with the throat chakra through a guided meditation. You can find that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwzSOF9GEHo&t=31s Important note: please seek the professional support of a trauma-informed therapist, healer, or Somatic Experiencing practitioner if you're trying to process childhood trauma and it feels overwhelming. His career progression includes 16 years of learning design and management, human resources, project management, and operations. Today, Johnny has been sober for over 13 years, has lost 200 lbs, recovered emotional and physical health, is debt free, and most importantly has learned to be still, connect with his highest self, and live by intuition. AWAKENING: What are you bracing against?
26:46
As humans, we sometimes develop a survival or coping mechanism of bracing against - bracing against other people, against pain and suffering, against potential criticism or rejection, against vulnerability, and even against life itself. As a spiritual and psychological state, bracing serves at least two functions: to push away unpleasant things, and to hold on tightly to the people, things, and relationships we already have in our lives (typically out of fear that you might lose those things in the future). In this act of bracing, which involves a self-defensive stance, there's a fundamental lack of trust. A lack of trust in yourself, in life, and in your ability to handle life - no matter what arises. Bracing for a long time can have harmful effects on your entire system, including your body, physical health, mental health, and ability to connect spiritually. In this episode of AWAKENING, I delve into this coping mechanism of bracing, discuss its long-term consequences and effects, and offer some suggestions to begin softening it. The ego's primary agenda is to make sure you're keeping up appearances, looking good to others, being accepted, and maintaining the status quo. Therefore, the ego is constantly on the lookout for anything that might threaten your sense of identity. In this episode, we'll explore:

TRIGGERED! When you're stuck in perfectionism or hypervigilance
18:59
Perfectionism and hypervigilance are often maladaptive ways in which we've learned to stay safe in the world (or to at least try to stay safe). They're also patterns that we sometimes acquire in response to trauma, and to prevent a similar trauma or hurtful experience from happening again. The problem with these patterns is that they keep you so limited, living a tightly controlled life as you try to do everything perfectly - to BE perfect - and avoid making any mistakes. Some of the core symptoms of being stuck in perfectionism and hypervigilance include:
In this episode, I introduce my brand new course 21 Days to Heal Perfectionism & Hypervigilance and lay out the 3 most important steps in releasing these patterns so you can reclaim your creativity, peace, freedom, and sense of well-being in the world. Inner Work 120: The Tarot Cups, Pt. 1. Your Relationships with the Divine, Yourself, and Other People
24:10
Due to overwhelming demand following my series on the Tarot Swords, I'm happy to present this four-part series on another Tarot suit: the Cups. In this first installment of four episodes, I lay the groundwork for taking you through a deeper, psychospiritual understanding of the suit of Cups. Join me for a discussion of: - the suit of Cups as representing a primarily feminine energy (in contrast, particularly, to the very phallic suit of Swords) - how the suit of Cups challenges us to embody the energies of surrendering, flexibility, flow, and receptivity - the Ace of Cups as a card of total Divine connection and spiritual solace - the 2 of Cups as a card for healing dysfunctional relationship patterns, especially unequal power dynamics in romantic relationships - the 3 of Cups as a card that challenges us to overcome interpersonal trauma so we can celebrate ourselves and each other, particularly in the context of female friendship I'll be referring to the Rider Waite Smith deck if you want to follow along with the imagery and specific details on the cards. TRIGGERED! When the holidays feel stressful or draining
17:36
Aaah, the holidays... a magical time of gathering with loved ones and celebrating our blessings. That is, ideally! For many people, the holidays can be a lot more stressful, draining, or anxiety-inducing than the picture-perfect image of a loving family gathered around a fancy table. The holidays - whichever ones you choose to celebrate - can bring up mixed emotions or fill you with anticipatory dread, worry, and stress. In this special holiday edition of TRIGGERED!, I talk about: - the importance of breaking with old traditions that feel draining, confining, or dysfunctional - creating your own traditions that feel more aligned and peaceful - reinforcing boundaries with family members during the holidays - liberating yourself from burdensome family expectations and using the holidays as an opportunity to practice saying NO - ways to protect yourself energetically & physically if you choose to gather with family You might find this resource helpful if you do get triggered at some point during the holidays. TRIGGERED! When you use whatever you can to escape reality
21:54
Have you found yourself reaching for whatever it is you can - a substance, experience, behavior, or whatever else - to escape the present moment? Yup, I've done that too. Many times! This episode of TRIGGERED! is, in many ways, a continuation of my episode on addictions and compulsive behavior. But this time we're focusing on the impulse to "check out", to not be here, to not be in your body, to escape reality. Join me for a discussion of: - where the impulse to check out or escape comes from (and how it relates to being highly sensitive) - why and how this impulse drives us to engage in self-destructive or harmful behaviors - why it's important to NOT demonize or punish yourself for wanting to escape - recognizing that your addictions and attachments to the things, substances, and behaviors you use to check out are not happening in a vacuum; there are entire industries invested in keeping you addicted (and how touching into your sacred anger about this can help in breaking those attachments) To connect with me directly, please head over to www.josephinehardman.com or write to me@josephinehardman.com Thank you for tuning in! TRIGGERED! When you can't stop eating sugar (or engaging in some other addictive behavior)

"Addictions always originate in pain, whether felt openly or hidden in the unconscious." - Dr. Gabor Mate This episode of TRIGGERED! takes on the topic of addictive behaviors through my own personal experience with food and sugar addiction. Join me for a discussion of: - what fuels us to engage in addictive behaviors even when we know they're harming us - the importance of not making an addiction or addictive substance the enemy - how the addictive cycle keeps us stuck in a loop of obsessive thinking and robs us of peace, vitality, and energy - softening addictive tendencies by understanding WHY and HOW you've used them as a coping mechanism or as a response to trauma - for sugar addiction in particular, the importance of cultivating more "sweetness" and self-compassion in your daily life I mention a number of resources throughout the episode. TRIGGERED! When someone tries to prove you wrong
15:52
Feeling criticized or called out on something can feel so uncomfortable. So triggering! This episode investigates what happens to us when someone tries to prove us "wrong" - whether they're responding to something we've created, something we've said or done, or a personal opinion. I offer two specific, grounding questions to stay as centered as you can and evaluate the criticism you receive as peacefully and openly as possible. I also touch on cases or situations where it might be ok to evalute that criticism critically and detach from it if it's coming from a hostile or close-minded place. An important point of this episode is that being called out on something - or when someone tries to prove you wrong - can be an excellent opportunity for growth, learning, and examining your own beliefs. This can give rise to feelings of worry, fear, urgency, frustration, and hopelessness. I talk about what to do with those feelings and also cover these topics: - what "surrendering" really means - a common trap or misconception in the law of attraction - how you can manifest what you want even with some fear or doubt - how to adopt an attitude of empowered surrendering - a specific practice to shift from an attitude of grasping to an attitude of surrender & receptivity In this episode, I also invited you to fill out a survey to provide feedback on the podcast. Inner Work 108: Emotional Labor (and the Emotional Work of Being a Healer)
30:54
What is emotional labor? How do you know when you're doing it? And what are the costs and consequences associated with that labor? Join me for an in-depth exploration of emotional labor, what it is, and how to recognize when you're doing it (and why you're doing it). In this episode, I offer specific examples of emotional labor across three spaces: at home, in relationships, and in your work as a healer or service-based provider. As healers, we must engage in particular kinds of emotional labor when we work with clients individually or in group settings. As we run through the different types of emotional labor you might be doing in your life and work, I invite you to notice which of these you tend to engage in the most... and which are most draining for you. What kind of emotional labor are you doing simply out of a sense of obligation, family expectations, or social conditioning? Are you doing emotional labor to please others or avoid conflict? If so, how can you shift that pattern? In this episode, I announced my Akashic Records Level 1 Training Course. TRIGGERED! When you can't get out of your head
20:37
This episode is going out to my fellow overthinkers! Do you tend to get trapped inside your head, caught in repetitive or intrusive thinking patterns? Do you overanalyze everything to death? Do you find it challenging to drop down into your body and be in the space of your heart? Join me as we explore the possible reasons why you might have developed this tendency to "retreat" into the head as a safety or coping mechanism. In this episode, I define the difference between being in your head (the home of your rational and ego mind) versus being in your heart (the home of your divine mind and spirit). I also talk about what you can do to begin shifting from the head into the heart. TRIGGERED! When you're having a hard time and someone tells you to just "be positive"
16:04
Has anyone ever told you to just "be positive" or "think positive" while you were in the midst of a crisis, having a challenge, or experiencing intense emotions? Did this make you want to rip that person's head off? Yup, I've been there too! In this episode of TRIGGERED!, I talk about the experience of being told to just "be positive" and how this can make you feel triggered, alone, angry, or dismissed. This may also trigger the feeling that your experience or emotions are being minimized. I also cover, briefly, the sometimes endemic tendency in the spiritual community towards "toxic positivity" - the idea that everything is, or should, be ok if you just "stay positive" and keep your vibes high. TRIGGERED! When you abandon or betray yourself
16:13
Self-abandonment is really common in our culture. It can take many different forms, but it’s often related to denying or suppressing your own needs to act in ways that are deemed acceptable by others. Our western culture frequently encourages us to move towards this place of self-denial, suppression, and twisting ourselves to fit external expectations and demands. Part of this has to do with being affable, with not creating conflict, with being perceived as a helpful and productive and easygoing person. In this episode of Triggered, we explore what it means to abandon or betray yourself. I run through some specific examples of self-abandonment and offer suggestions for reclaiming your self-worth and becoming your own ally and advocate. TRIGGERED! When you feel shame about being too sensitive
18:16
This episode of TRIGGERED! is going out to my fellow highly sensitive people and empaths. Do you sometimes (still) get triggered when you feel you're "too sensitive", or if someone else makes you feel that you are, or if you even have the slightest inkling that someone might be perceiving you that way? Yup, me too! Especially if you grew up hearing that you're too sensitive, or you need to grow a thicker skin, or you take things too personally, you might have developed a sense of shame about your sensitivity. In this episode, we dive into the experience of feeling shame about our heightened sensitivity and what we can do with that shame when it gets triggered. To connect with me directly or share your own triggers so we can work through them together, please head over to www.josephinehardman.com or send an email to me@josephinehardman.com I'd also love to hear if this episode spoke to you! Inner Work 103: Healing Past Life Trauma
25:26
It's very likely that you've lived lifetimes as a human before your current life. Some of the painful, traumatizing, or challenging experiences from your past lives might still remain unresolved. We can think of past life trauma in a number of different ways – for example, we have all experienced both individual and collective trauma in past lives. Trauma from your past lives, if it remains unresolved, tends to become embedded somewhere in your energy field. You also hold memories of that trauma at a cellular level. This is why you can sometimes experience not only emotional but also physical symptoms related to past life trauma. In this episode, I delve into the topic of past life trauma and offer a few specific indicators or signs that your current challenges - whether emotional, physical, spiritual, or relational - might be related to past life issues. I also discuss how the Akashic Records are one of the most ideal tools for healing this kind of trauma. TRIGGERED! When the same old issue shows up in your life again
19:38
This episode of TRIGGERED! is about those moments when the "same old" issue shows up in your life... yet again. This could be an issue or pattern (or even physical symptom) you've faced many times before. Sometimes, it feels like it goes into "remission" or like you've finally moved beyond it, but then it pops up again when you least expect it. Gah! Having a human experience can be so tough. I offer some real talk on how to face these old demons again when they pop up. The major focus of the episode is on how to move through the intense feelings that can come up in these moments: shame, anger, frustration, hopelessness, discouragement, sometimes even despair. I also lay out 4 specific suggestions for helping yourself face the same old issue, pattern, or symptom more compassionately and productively when it does show up. Inner Work 102: An Inside Look into an Akashic Records Healing Session
01:03:12
For this special episode of Inner Work, I had the privilege of working with a respected friend, Thomas the Hermit, as we journeyed into his Akashic Records and then recorded a debrief of the experience. You will hear Thomas speak about the session candidly - what happened, what we saw and received from the Records, and how the information helped him. Our conversation provides an inside look into an Akashic Records Healing Session. If you've ever wondered how this modality can help you accelerate your healing, overcome dysfunctional patterns, and reconnect to the highest-level version of yourself (i.e., your Higher Self, Soul, Divine Self), this episode will shed some light on all of that. It also provides a case study of how the Akashic Records can be accessed - and the kinds of information that can come through - with the help of a trained reader. TRIGGERED! When people cross or disrespect your boundaries
17:02
Boundaries! A perpetually hot issue in the spiritual and healing worlds. Boundaries are something we must all continually work on while we're incarnated in human bodies. It's so important to have clear and healthy boundaries to delineate where you end and where someone else begins. This can help you stay true to your core needs and desires instead of losing your sense of self in relationships or in other people. In this episode, I respond to a listener email about one of her triggers - when people try to tell her what to do and when people cross her boundaries. Join me for this discussion as we delve into the "freeze" response that can habitually get triggered when others disrespect or test your boundaries, especially if you grew up with poor boundaries or parents/caregivers who were unable to model healthy boundary-setting. I also talk about "sacred anger" and how reawakening this energy within you can lead to powerful healing and help you stand your ground - no matter where you are, who you're with, or what's being asked of you. Inner Work 101: Ancestral Healing with Lauren McGill (Woman of Rivers)
01:02:12
I recently had the pleasure of interviewing the deeply soulful, compassionate, and knowledgeable Lauren McGill (Woman of Rivers). Lauren is a spiritualist, diviner, and root worker living in New Orleans. In her work as Woman of Rivers, she utilizes the Tarot for insight, growth, and healing as she helps her clients release old patterns and powerfully connect with their ancestors. To extend the scope of her work, Lauren is currently studying Art Therapy, a practice she intends to integrate with ancestral healing modalities of breathwork and herbal medicine making. In this interview, we talk about ancestral healing: what it is, why it's important, and where you can start. We also chat about Lauren's healing journey and how water (and fluidity!) has been an essential element in both her business and private life. To connect with Lauren, you can tune in to weekly collective Tarot readings via https://instagram.com/womanofrivers or visit her website for sessions, her spells deck, and conjure work at www.womanofrivers.com To connect with me (Josephine), head over to www.josephinehardman.com

TRIGGERED! When you feel excluded, rejected, or like an outcast
17:31
This episode of TRIGGERED! explores the issue of feeling excluded, rejected, or like an "alien" or outcast. (Have you been there? Me too!) I respond to a listener's message about this and dive into the root of these painful feelings that can get activated whenever you feel left out or overlooked. Join me as we explore why we get triggered when we feel unseen or excluded and what we can do to soothe or relate differently to this trigger. We'll also go back in time to locate your "primary rejection" -- that first conscious memory of being rejected, excluded, unseen, or mocked simply for being who you are. Healing that core wound of rejection and compassionately holding the part of you that's still suffering because of it is the key to releasing this trigger. I'd love to hear your feedback on this episode! Please email me any time at me@josephinehardman.com . I would also love to hear about your own triggers so we can work through them together. TRIGGERED! When you feel unsafe or uncomfortable in your body
15:53
Being in a human, physical body can be very triggering at times. It can feel dense, unsafe, or uncomfortable to be in a body. This sometimes leads us to try to escape the body through coping mechanisms like overeating, undereating, drinking too much, checking out from reality, or spiritual bypassing. It can also feel unsafe to be in your body if you've experienced trauma of any kind in this lifetime. In this episode, I address a few different forms of trauma you might have experienced that could still be affecting your ability to feel grounded and embodied. I also offer two practices to begin healing your relationship to your body. *DISCLAIMER: nothing in this episode should be considered a substitute for medical, psychological, or psychiatric advice or treatment.* If you need specialized help working through body-based trauma, you can find a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner here: https://directory.traumahealing.org To connect with me directly, you can head over to www.josephinehardman.com And please feel free to respond to this episode and/or share your own triggers by emailing me@josephinehardman.com Thank you for tuning in and supporting the podcast by leaving a rating or review or, better yet, sharing it with a good friend.

TRIGGERED! When you feel unheard or misunderstood
14:14
Today, we begin with a powerful quote from Victor Frankl: "Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom." These words remind us that we don't have to respond reactively to life. That we can notice and work with our triggers to diminish our knee-jerk reactions, which can often cause suffering for ourselves and/or others. In this episode, I answer a listener email about a specific triggering situation: when you feel unheard or misunderstood in the context of an intimate relationship (or friendship). I share what I have found useful in these situations. I also encourage you to examine past relationship dynamics - including your relationships with your parents - so you can take stock of the unhealed or core wounds you bring with you into your interactions with people now. Inner Work 097: 7 Books to Read on Your Spiritual or Healing Path
37:56
For Inner Work's first episode of 2021, I'm sharing a list of 7 powerful books that can awaken and transform you. These are unique, truthful, and healing books that I've returned to over and over again as I've walked my own spiritual path. I hope you'll find a title that resonates with you and that can help you kick 2021 off with renewed hope, clarity, and inspiration. I run through each of these books and describe their main purpose, who they're meant for, what makes them unique, and why they're important for those of us on the spiritual path. Here's the list of books included in this episode: Ram Dass - Grist for the Mill Please note: this is NOT an affiliate episode, so I don't receive financial compensation if you purchase any of these books. I'm recommending them because I can personally vouch for their transformative powers. TRIGGERED! When your brain won't let you meditate
17:54
You finally find a quiet moment to meditate, you sit down, close your eyes, take a few deep breaths... and your brain is off to the races. The ego mind can often get in the way of your meditation practice by pulling you in many different directions. In this mini-episode, I explore the most common interference patterns used by the brain and ego mind when you try to meditate. I also share a few journaling or reflection prompts so you can explore the idea of surrendering, letting go of control, and creating more space between you and your ego mind. Additionally, I offer some alternative practices if sitting still in complete silence is too unbearable for you. Sometimes this can be a sign that you're tapping into "frozen" or unresolved trauma, so it's important to be mindful of what's happening in your body and take a more gradual approach to meditation. If this episode is helpful for you, please consider leaving a rating or review on Apple Podcasts - or, better yet, telling a friend about the podcast! TRIGGERED! When you put yourself out there and someone criticizes you
12:59
Becoming less reactive is an important goal on your path of healing and spiritual awakening. To respond to situations from a place of wisdom, higher truth, and confidence – instead of responding out of fear, worry, anger, or any kind of knee-jerk reaction. This goal of becoming less reactive – and therefore becoming more centered and grounded in the present moment – is what inspired this new experimental series of mini-episodes, which I’m calling TRIGGERED! (with an exclamation point because when you get triggered, it can be pretty intense). Through these episodes, I also want to bring some levity and lightness to the process of spiritual development, which can sometimes really challenge you. In this first mini-episode, we’ll be working with what happens (and what to do) when you put yourself out there and someone criticizes you. This topic was inspired by one of my own triggers, so this episode includes a personal anecdote. I then shift to the bigger picture and some specific takeaways as you strive to put yourself out there as well. I'd love for this series to be a dialogue between you and me, so please send me your triggers (as you become aware of them) via email: me@josephinehardman.com To connect with me, head over to www.josephinehardman.com or www.instagram.com/purefield.healing Thank you for being here and supporting the podcast!

Inner Work 094: The Akashic Records as a Tool of Healing and Transformation (w/ Collective Guidance)
40:56
As a healing tool, the Akashic Records can help you navigate uncertainty in our modern times, make more informed and intentional choices, release dysfunctional patterns, and reconnect you to a sense of purpose and meaning in your life. In this episode, I take you deeper into the Akashic Records to deliver some collective messages from the Record Keepers. These messages include guidance about what to focus on, what to prioritize right now, and potential areas for deeper healing in your life. For example, the Record Keepers speak about letting go of the need for external validation, the importance of not interfering in others' healing processes, and the practice of unhooking yourself from painful thought forms. Inner Work 093: The Practice of Shifting to a Higher Truth
30:07
As spiritual beings in human bodies, we can sometimes get caught up in the illusion of 3D reality. Bills must be paid, kids must be driven to school (or educated at home during a pandemic!), cars must be repaired, and dinner must be cooked. We also have to interact with others and navigate a chaotic world. In this process, we can get lost in material reality and forget to stay connected to a Higher Perspective. In this episode, I talk about how you can disengage from the illusions of 3D reality and reach for the higher truth of any situation or experience. This requires you to reconnect to Divine Source over and over again. Finding the higher truth means becoming more aware of what your Soul would say about any situation or challenge you're facing. As you do this, you expand your perspective and shift to a more hopeful, joyful, supported, and empowered state. Inner Work 092: The Healing Path as a Labyrinth
27:41
In the words of Joseph Campbell on the labyrinth as a mythological symbol: "We have not even to risk the adventure alone, for the heroes of all time have gone before us — the labyrinth is thoroughly known. We have only to follow the thread of the hero path, and where we had thought to find an abomination, we shall find a god; where we had thought to slay another, we shall slay ourselves; where we had thought to travel outward, we shall come to the center of our own existence. And where we had thought to be alone, we shall be with all the world." In this episode, I explore the labyrinth as a metaphor for the healing path, with its winding detours, distractions, obstacles, and victories along the way. I talk about some of the key places and figures you'll encounter inside the labyrinth including the Dead End, the False Teacher, the Spiritual Advisor, and the Sanctuary. Join me for this traversal through the labyrinth -- which we ultimately never walk alone.

Inner Work 091: Dealing with Setbacks on Your Healing Path
24:37
Expecting the healing path to move in a linear fashion can set you up for frustration and disappointment. A more accurate metaphor for the healing path is a spiral or labyrinth, with lots of detours, roadblocks, and shadows that come up to be healed along the way. In this episode, I share specific tips for dealing with setbacks on your healing path -- starting with the importance of redefining the word "setback" itself. Inner Work 084: Making Yourself Magnetic to Your Ideal Clients
37:40
Are you a healer or spiritual entrepreneur trying to grow your business and get more clients? This episode is for you if you've connected to your Divine Mission and that Mission includes healing, being of service, transmuting energy, anchoring light, or serving as a catalyst for transformation. In this episode, I propose a new way of doing marketing that does NOT revolve around hustling, endless to-do lists, tricking, high-pressure sales tactics, or creating a false sense of urgency. Inner Work 082: The Path of the Spiritual Entrepreneur
35:10
I call the path of the spiritual entrepreneur an "incubator for accelerated healing." This is because ALL of your stuff comes up on this path: your fears, resistance, triggers, self-doubt, self-sabotage, old wounds. And more! This episode takes a behind-the-scenes look at the path of the spiritual entrepreneur and examines some of the intense fears and triggers that come up along the way. I draw some parallels between this path and the Fool's Journey (in Tarot), given that running your own spiritual business requires tremendous amounts of faith, trust, and the ability to take risks. I also share why I think it's so important to become your own boss and create your own economy in light of recent world events. Inner Work 075: Listening to the Voice of Your Divine Genius (Instead of the Voice of Fear)
29:26
I'm sure you're familiar with the voice of fear within you (we all have it). This is the voice that tells you you're not good enough, things will never work out for you, you'll never make enough money, you're stupid, it's not worth trying anything new, etc, etc. (Such a tyrant!) But do you also recognize within yourself the voice of Divine Genius? This voice is also referred to as the voice of Higher Self, the voice of your soul, your inner knowing, your inner Goddess. In this episode, I talk about the INNER CONFLICT that's created when the voice of Divine Genius and the voice of fear within you are locked in a struggle. I also offer advice on how to turn up the volume on your voice of Divine Genius so you can move beyond old patterns, release your fear, and go for the things you actually want. Inner Work 064: Being in the Mystery Between Manifestations
36:38
There's always a gap between your desire and the manifested outcome of that desire -- we may call this the "mystery" between manifestations. As humans, we often find it challenging to reside in this mystery, which is why we give up on our deepest desires before they've had a chance to manifest. In this episode, we dive right into the mystery and I offer some strategies to become more comfortable with it. Ultimately, being comfortable with the mystery will allow you to call in what you want faster and with less resistance than ever before. Inner Work 062: Dealing with Low Frequency Emotions

As humans, it's almost impossible for us not to feel emotions like anger, fear, resentment, frustration, and disappointment in certain situations. These are low frequency emotions because they emit and attract lower vibrations than emotions like love, excitement, and joy. In this episode, I talk about how you can deal with low frequency emotions when you feel them, particularly in relationships. I also discuss the concept of the emotional pain-body, how this pain-body becomes activated, and how you can work towards making your own pain-body less reactive.

Inner Work 057: Spiritual Bypassing
28:37
Robert Augustus Masters defines the term "spiritual bypassing" as a collection of behaviors and beliefs through which we use spirituality to avoid life. Some of these behaviors include anger-phobia, boundaries that are too strict or too porous, emotional numbing, and over-detachment from life. When we engage in spiritual bypassing, we trick ourselves into believing that we're healing and working through deep issues, but we're actually only staying on the surface of what's really going. In this episode, I invite you to explore the key behaviors of spiritual bypassing so you can move beyond them into deeper, more transformative, and long-lasting healing. Masters' book can be found here: Spiritual Bypassing. Thank you so much for listening, and keep doing your inner work!

30:35

We've all been there, either in our personal or professional lives (or both). This episode delves deeply into this delicate subject of female competition, insecurity, and self-worth. I address what's really happening when your feelings of inadequacy, unworthiness, insecurity, and not-good-enoughness are triggered when you witness another person's success or milestone. Purefield Radio 025: The Highly Sensitive Empath
32:51
Empaths are "emotional sponges who absorb both the joy and stress of the world," according to psychologist Dr. Judith Orloff. Growing up as an empath, you may have frequently heard that you needed to "grow a thicker skin," "not take things so personally," and "not be so sensitive." In this episode, I explore life as an empath and how we can nurture our sensitivity to overcome challenges and use our gifts to heal ourselves and others. I also investigate the difference between a highly sensitive person (HSP) and an empath, highlighting the areas where these two categories overlap. During the episode, I mention Dr. Judith Orloff's book The Empath's Survival Guide. (I highly recommend it if you identify as an empath and have never read it!) Dr. Elaine Aron's book The Highly Sensitive Person is another great title to add to your reading list. Thank you so much for listening! |

Purefield Radio 024: Epigenetics and the Work of Dr. Joe Dispenza
23:12
Epigenetics is the "study of changes in organisms caused by modification of gene expression rather than alteration of the genetic code itself." To put it in simpler terms, the field of epigenetics is helping us understand that our genes are affected by the external environment, including what we eat, drink, think, feel, and do. We are not destined to a certain genetic fate due to our family history or whatever happened to our parents or grandparents. In this episode of Purefield Radio, I get into some of the science of epigenetics through the work of Joe Dispenza, a pioneering author, doctor, and mystic. Learn precisely how your genes are influenced by the external environment and how you can start turning off genes for disease and turning on genes for health and abundance. To learn more about Dr. Joe Dispenza's work, attend one of his workshops, or purchase his meditations, go to his website. Purefield Radio 022: The Human Energy System and Your Health
34:24
Join me for a discussion of the 8 major energy centers (or "chakras") in your human energy field. I discuss each center's role, associated body parts and organs, and potential dysfunctions. I also offer specific healing techniques and affirmations to bring each chakra back into balance and health. During the episode, I refer to Barbara Brennan's book Hands of Light. Get your own copy here. *Note: following Brennan's understanding of the human energy system, I associate the pituitary gland with the third eye chakra and the pineal gland with the crown chakra. These associations are sometimes reversed in newer studies of the chakra system (pineal with third eye and pituitary with crown chakra). To learn more about me or my services, visit Purefield. Purefield Transmission: On Victimhood and Playing Small
21:52
The Akashic Records are a tool for accessing higher guidance and universal wisdom. Since Josephine is a trained Akashic Record reader, she decided to open up the Records and begin asking for specific messages for our listeners and Purefield community. This is the first message (or "Purefield Transmission," to distinguish these episodes from our regular ones). The topics are victimhood and playing small, which are corrosive and addictive tendencies in our human society. Why do we identify with and hold on to victim roles? Why do we relate to others based on misery and lack rather than success and abundance? Why do we re-live the trauma of the past in our daily life experiences? Josephine explores these issues -- and more -- through the infinite wisdom of the Records. If you're unfamiliar with the Akashic Records, go here for a detailed explanation. Go to Purefield Massachusetts to learn more about Josephine's services, or email us at purefield.mass@gmail.com with questions, comments, and responses to the episode. Purefield Radio 009: Money (and Spirituality)
54:43
Can you be a spiritual, highly evolved being and still make money? How do you shift your mindset from poverty or scarcity to abundance? We cover these questions and more in Purefield Radio's ninth episode. We also delve deeply into our personal stories, attitudes, and beliefs regarding money and financial well-being. This episode offers practical techniques and exercises for getting into greater alignment with your infinite abundance and financial freedom. We discuss the powerful value in rewriting the stories you tell about yourself and money, investigating your inherited attitudes and beliefs about money, and using the Law of Attraction to shift your mindset and your vibration. "By softening your attention to the things that are going wrong, and by beginning to tell stories that lean more in the direction of what you want instead of in the direction of what you've got, your vibration will shift, your point of attraction will shift, and you will get different results." - Abraham Hicks, Money and the Law of Attraction To learn more about financial & business expert (and coach) Ramit Sethi, visit www.iwillteachyoutoberich.com. Purefield Radio 008: Boundaries
41:25
Boundaries help us delineate where we end and where we begin in relation to other people and to the external world. Boundaries also help us express who we are, the kinds of behavior we will accept, and the ways in which we wish to be treated. In this episode, we contemplate the usefulness of boundaries in social and personal relationships and even within ourselves (i.e. "internal" boundaries). We discuss some of the symptoms of inadequate boundary-setting and offer advice on creating and following through with healthy, loving, and respectful boundaries.
