Inside the CFP expansion meeting, prove it week for some teams...time to panic for others
00:56:47

Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel and SI's Pat Forde discuss the expanded college football playoff and the politics at play ahead of the management committee's meeting this week to discuss the future. What is the hold-up and when could we see a change?

We have dubbed this a 'prove it' week for a few teams around the country. Arkansas has a huge test in Arlington, Texas, against the Fighting Aggies of Texas A&M. In Big Ten Country, 3-0 Rutgers battles 3-0 Michigan in a rematch of last season's triple-overtime thriller. In Chicago, Notre Dame will take on a dangerous Wisconsin team for the first time in over 50 years. Which squad will step up to the challenge this weekend?

The guys also play a game of panic or patience with a few programs that need to show us more. Will Ohio State's defense ever turn it around? What about Oklahoma's offense?

Stick around for a wacky story involving millions of dollars worth of fraud involving... coupons?

Battle in the Big 10, Trouble at ND, UNC & MSU
00:56:20

Your favorite trio, Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel and SI’s Pat Forde return with more ridiculous banter. The Big 10 and Kevin Warren finally released a statement explaining their reason to postpone the football season and it did little to quell the uproar from players, fans and coaches alike. Is it time to put the fall Big 10 season to bed?

As parents of players threaten to protest in Indianapolis, Michigan State, UNC, NC State and Notre Dame opted for online schooling before the semester began due to outbreaks on campus. Does this move help football’s chances by creating an impromptu bubble? When will administrators come out and say football players aren’t amateurs?

Finally, the SEC’s 10-game conference schedule release raised the question should leagues make that move permanent? The guys also host a beer-centric people’s court to cap the show.

Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel and SI’s Pat Forde continue their march through the longest offseason of all-time…and why it could be getting longer. The Athletic reported this week that three major conferences are considering moving championship games back a weekend so teams can play makeup games. At this point, why aren’t administrators talking more about moving the season to the spring? (00:38)

Pete wrote a great piece this week diving into the Oklahoma State story explaining why the players' reaction involved more than just an OAN shirt. Did Chuba Hubbard save Mike Gundy’s career? (17:44)

We also had a classic social media battle over the past few days between the Louisville Cardinals and Kentucky Wildcats…except it wasn’t your average fan getting the fight started. Why did John Calipari’s daughter go after Chris Mack’s wife? And where does this rank among the all-time great Card vs. Cat feuds? (27:00)

And, as if 2020 couldn’t get any crazier, the Loch Ness monster has burst onto the scene after one tourist published pictures of what looks like a giant fish swimming in the famed lake… but the guys are a bit skeptical. And halfway across the world, sex-crazed monkeys have taken control of a Thai city. Is this beginning of the animal revolt we have been warning listeners about for years? (40:24)

Across the country, COVID-19 cases keep popping up in football camps and, until now, games have been slated for the fall. This week, the Southern Heritage Classic involving Tennessee State and Jackson State has been canceled due to COVID-19. Is this a sign of things to come or should we still have hope for football in September?

UNLV announced this week that it has removed a Rebel statue on campus and is looking to change their nickname. Is it finally time for Ole Miss to follow suit and put their confederate past to behind them?

At FSU, star player Marvin Wilson disputed first-year HC Mike Norvell’s claim that he spoke with each and every Seminole player. At Clemson, Dabo Swinney held a press conference that, for many, wasn't enough. How can college coaches be instruments of change?

The guys then turn their attention to the growing hope of a college football season. Oklahoma State is planning on having a full stadium. Is this even a possibility?

Finally, Pat, Pete and Dan break out an all-time edition of podcast people’s court. They rule on wild stories involving a South African booze heist and a Spanish porn star who is charged with manslaughter while using toad venom in a ritual…

Nebraska's severance highway robbery, what will Arizona say about 'The Scheme' and can we have football by Labor Day?

One thing that's becoming clear through the Coronavirus pandemic is that, in these early months, it's been an absolutely futile enterprise to predict when life will get back to normal.

Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel & SI's Pat Forde open this week's podcast discussing that uncertainty as it pertains to the start of college football season. What are universities saying about the start of the season and what would need to happen for college football to begin as normally planned in late August/early September? (6:30)

As reported by the Omaha World-Herald, the University of Nebraska paid out a whopping $27.9 million in severance pay to fired coaches in the last fifteen years– more than any other school. Why do athletic directors continue to be held up by coaches and their agents?(18:50)

The Red River Shootout, Pruitt's Police & Fat Bear Week
00:53:39

Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel and Pat Forde begin in Tennessee where the second-year head coach, Jeremy Pruitt, showed again that he isn't ready for the SEC as an early morning call involving one of his players and a police officer didn't show the Vols' head man in the best light. (3:50)

The guys then dive head-first into the huge slate of Week 7 games. In Dallas, Oklahoma is set to take on Texas in the annual Red River SHOOTOUT. Is the Texas State Fair the drunkest atmosphere that doesn't involve LSU fans? Ohio State might be the hottest team in the country. Are they playoff-bound? (23:28)

On the other side of the coin, the defending champs, Clemson, have looked less-than-stellar. Do the Tigers have to run the table to make the playoff? (32:43)

Pat, Pete, and Dan also cover Auburn’s Boobee Whitlow attacking Mississippi State’s mascot (27:31), Will Muschamp’s hilarious reason for using reading glasses (39:51), and this week’s small-sample Heisman winner. (43:02)

Race for the Case: Week 1 ATS predictions + Mike Norvell of Memphis
00:31:04

Are you one of Pat Forde and Pete Thamel's "Friday Friends?"

If not, you're about to be.

Ladies and gentlemen, we'd like to introduce the "Race for the Case," a weekly feature here on the Yahoo Sports College Podcast. Each week, Pat and Pete will tape a short and fun prediction podcast geared toward their "Friday Friends" — the group of pals that pops up at the end of each week to seek the advice of our college gridiron experts.

But what are football picks without a little action at stake? Pat and Pete will be competing throughout the season to see who can fill their case with correct picks the fastest. First man to 24 gets a case of beer from the other.

Along the way they'll be trading stories and favorite brews from their travels across this great country.

This week's slate of picks:

Northwestern @ Purdue (-1.5) (Thursday night game!)

Washington vs Auburn (-1.5)

Michigan @ Notre Dame (-1)

LSU vs Miami (-3.5)

Virginia Tech @ Florida St (-7.5)

After the knowledge, stick around to hear Pete interview Mike Norvell of Memphis.

Michigan-Notre Dame, the Urban Meyer fallout and an interview with Matt Rhule
00:54:49

The first big weekend of college football is finally here and the guys get into it by talking about Saturday's biggest game: Michigan at Notre Dame. Which program needs it more? And why does Pat liken Michigan's QB situation to Hamburger Helper?

Also on the show:

— The Urban Meyer investigation is over and done with at OSU ... but is it really?

— USC is starting true freshman JT Daniels at QB. It's early, but how does this story end for young JT?

—Washington is visiting Auburn in Atlanta to start the season and bringing the Pac-12's entire reputation with them.

— Miami-LSU and West Virginia-Tennessee. At which game will more alcohol be consumed?

— Pete sits down with Baylor coach Matt Rhule

— The guys talk about the Kentucky home burglary in which a cheese grater was stolen! What's the most random thing you'd think to steal from someone?
