Fighting for Freedom w/ Zuby

During the 2020 lockdowns countries across the globe cracked down on their populations, forcing them inside their homes and closing down businesses from operating normally. Different countries and political structures reacted to these lockdowns in different ways. Most countries found themselves spiraling into more and more totalitarian rule and lockdowns. States have expanded their grasp and where not letting it go despite any real or false threats.

In this interview with Thinker, Musician, writer, and freedom fighter Zuby, Christian Keroles dives into Zuby’s experiences and learnings from 2020 in the UK. This podcast was inspired by Zuby’s twitter thread: 20 Things I've Learned (Or Had Confirmed) About Humanity During The 'Pandemic'. This interview dives into many of Zuby’s learnings and teases out topics around propaganda, big governments over reach, the state of the average person and many more deep and nuanced topics.  Zuby is such a clear thinker and speaker, he has built his reputation on his raw and unfiltered commentary on the world and the nature of humanity. In the interview Zuby expresses hope for people who can start thinking critically and is thankful for tools and practices that can help make a person more sovereign and independent.

Zuby has both been a fan of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies while still maintaining a relatively pessimistic view on the technologies ability to reach the masses or have the wide reaching effects that many Bitcoin enthusiasts see in it. In the interview Zuby admits that 2020 has validated Bitcoin to a much greater degree, however still pushes back that it is not a cure-all solution.

Investing with a Bitcoin Mindset w/ Louis Liu

For most investors, Bitcoin is still just a hedge. Bitcoin is a small allocation with tremendous upside. The majority of retail and institutional investors alike have yet to fully accept what Hyperbitcoinization is going to do to the world of finance.

On this episode of the Bitcoin Magazine podcast Christian Keroles sits down with the CEO and Founder of Mimesis Capital, an institutional investor investing with a Bitcoin mindset. Louis, and young, energized, and brilliant investor cuts through the legacy investing hurristic with a sharp and clear reason why Mimesis and eventually any other serious fund will have to adopt and out perform a Bitcoin standard. According to Louis, fiat denominated funds in the future will not exist and believes that all serious investors will have to outperform Bitcoin in order to prove their worth.

Scarcity drives every aspect of Louis’s investment mindset. Louis and Mimesis Capital have been investing heavily in Bitcoin directly since the beginning of the pandemic. Following the large run up in price Louis has also allocated capital to uniquely bitcoin oriented businesses like Unchained Capital, Swan Bitcoin, and many more Bitcoin only and bitcoin centric businesses. Louis believes in investing with a long term mindset and in investing in organizations that make Bitcoin stronger. He does not see allocating bitcoin to these startups as losing out on a direct bitcoin investment but rather as further investment in the bitcoin ecosystem.

Louis and Mimesis famously purchased the famous fractile encrypt sculpture from the Bitcoin 2021 art auction. Another investment into scarcity.

A New Way to Invest in Bitcoin w/ Wes Fulford

Today on the Bitcoin Magazine Podcast, Christian Keroles sits down with CEO of Viridi Funds Wes Fulford to discuss the $RIGZ clean energy mining ETF!

The Viridi Cleaner Energy Crypto-Mining & Semiconductor ETF is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that is focused on investments within the cryptocurrency mining and mining infrastructure industries. RIGZ was created by Viridi to align profit with purpose – a growing number of investors are keen to gain exposure to the cryptocurrency sector through regulated investment vehicles, but also want to see active leadership and commitment to environmental sustainability. According to Wes, Bitcoin mining is a sector that is particularly well suited to such an investment product as, according to recent figures, over 50% of North American bitcoin mining is done using renewable energy sources, which is a trend that Viridi hopes to encourage through products like RIGZ

Why Altcoins are Not a Threat to Bitcoin w/ Udi Wertheimer

On today’s Bitcoin Magazine Podcast, Christian Keroles sits down with the infamous Bitcoin Twitter personality and troll Udi Wertheimer to discuss why hard core Bitcoin faithful should not be so worried about Alternative Cryptocurrencies. Generally speaking Bitcoiners are very adversarial towards Altcoins and altcoiners. It is not unheard of to see Bitcoiner’s loudly decrying Altcoins as all scams and altcoin investors as foolish.

Both Udi and Christian don't believe that Altcoins are a challenge to Bitcoin and that they can even be helpful for new people that are not quite primed to understand Bitcoin initially. Bitcoin is quite unintuitive to people still operating on a fiat mindset. Udi also challenges Bitcoiner’s by claiming they lose credibility when they continue to pretend that some altcoins like Doge and Ethereum have not outperformed Bitcoin substantially in 2021.

Udi thinks that toxicity was much more necessary back in 2015-2017 during the Bitcoin fork wars. He now believes that Bitcoiner’s can be much more empathetic and successful at converting new and precoiners to Bitcoin with a less toxic strategy. The current brand of altcoins are no threat to Bitcoin itself and if anything amplifies Bitcoin’s brand, reach and TAM.

Please listen, share and tell Bitcoin Magazine what you think of this conversations with Udi Wertheimer.

Bringing the World to Bitcoin w/ Ivan Soto-Wright

Bitcoin Exposure for the Masses w/ Greg King

On this bonus episode of the Bitcoin Magazine Podcast, Christian Keroles sits down with Greg King, the CEO and Founder of Osprey Funds. Osprey is focused on bringing cutting edge technology exposure to everyday investors through their crypto trust products. Their first product OBTC is designed to compete with Greyscales GBTC as Osprey and many other race for SEC approval for a real Bitcoin ETF.

King believes that a Bitcoin ETF will be approved eventually by the SEC but he does see several head winds that could continue to prolong a final approval from the SEC. Many BTC ETF bulls have speculated that new SEC commissioner Gary Gensler, who has said positive and productive things about Bitcoin and crypto, would be a big boost for a Bitcoin ETF but King just does not think it will be enough for a quick and rapid approval this year.

Despite the short term bearishness on an ETF, Greg and Osprey are very hopeful for a long term victory and greater retail access to Bitcoin exposure and sound money.

Bitcoin and Tonga with Lord Fusitu'a

On this episode of the Bitcoin Magazine Podcast, Christian Keroles sits down with Lord Fusitu'a of Tonga. Lord Fusitu’a is Tongan royalty and a member of the Tongan government. Lord Fusitu'a is a die hard Bitcoiner and often spends time on Twitter spaces chatting with Bitcoin plebs from around the world. Fusitu’a tells the story of how Tonga relies heavily on remittances from Tongan’s living abroad and how much of those funds are lost to middle men and rent seekers. According to Lord Fusitu’a Bitcoin is already starting to take route in Tonga on a peer to peer level and Lord sees a viable path to implementing an El Salvador style bill to make Bitcoin legal tender in Tonga.

Fusitu’a has been working with both Jack Mallers and El Salvadorian official’s to take the best parts of that law and amend it to fit into Tonga’s legal framework. Fusitu’a believe that by embracing Bitcoin, Tonga can become more competitive and more wealthy compared to starts that are slower to the digital hard currency. Tonga people stand to benefit immediately just based on the remittances advantages that Bitcoin offers. Fusitu’a believe that these immediate advantages will turn into a culture of long term saving on the islands.

Debating The Nature of Bitcoin? w/ Karim Helmy

Karim Helmy of Galaxy Digital comes on to the Bitcoin Magazine Podcast to discuss one of the most interesting and deep conversations in Bitcoin. Karim has a rich history studying the Bitcoin blockchain and is an expert in mining in particular. Host Christian Keroles has very strong views into what Bitcoin is and some of them are counter to what Karim believes. Rather than debating over Twitter Christian invited Karim to join and discuss what Bitcoin really is.

Christian takes the position that ultimately bitcoin is a network of geographically distributed and computers maintaining constant consensus. Karim takes the position that while that does exist, ultimately it is the people and agreement from people that defines what Bitcoin is. This is a very nuanced debate and is at the route of many other philosophical and design disagreements in the greater crypto space.

Bitcoiners’, what do you think? Is Bitcoin defined by hardware and software or by humans or by something else entirely? Tweet at CK, Karim, and Bitcoin Magazine with your take on what Bitcoin really is.

Investing in Bitcoin with Kevin O'Leary

In recent months, conversations about the environmental impact of bitcoin have risen to national prominence. In this Bitcoin Magazine Podcast, hosts David Zell and Matt Odell sat down with famed Shark Tank investor, Kevin O’Leary. O’Leary had previously called bitcoins mined using fossil fuels “blood coins” and suggested that these coins and bitcoins mined with renewable energy may trade at different prices. In this interview, Mr. Wonderful walked back some of these positions, arguing that green mining will simply rise to meet growing demand.

Nonetheless, Kevin’s conversations with institutional investors have lead him to a stark conclusion—firms are increasingly bound by ESG standards, and major money is waiting on the sidelines to invest in bitcoin once these standards are met. Zell and Odell talk with Kevin about what this may look like as well as the broader landscape of institutional investment. O’Leary announced for the first time that he is looking to increase his bitcoin allocation from 3% to 5% and discussed his investments in the bitcoin ecosystem. This was a great conversation, and you won’t want to miss it.

Why Bitcoin is 1000x Bigger than Digital Gold with Aaron Segal

One of the most important yet double edge narratives out there is “Bitcoin is Digital Gold” On this very special Bitcoin Magazine Podcast, CK sits down with Aaron Segal, investor, Bitcoin thinker, and writer. Aaron’s first contribution to Bitcoin Magazine was one for the ages. CK read the article and immediately got back to Aaron asking for an interview. CK believes that Bitcoin is much better than gold ever was and to simply describe is as gold on the internet does not do the revolution that is Bitcoin justice.

Enter Bitcoin Information Theory (BIT) by Aaron Segal. Aaron’s article frames Bitcoin in a completely different way. Rather than focusing on Digital Gold, Segal hones in on the fact that a Bitcoin standard would end monetary uncertainty for 100% of the planet. What does ending monetary uncertainty mean? Aaron puts it into the contact of the laws of thermodynamics and entropy. Aaron sees that the law of thermodynamics doesn’t take into account advancements in technology, so Aaron created a new formula that does. The basic Idea is that work or energy expenditure to the power of technology minus monetary uncertainty equals information.

TE^(X-ME) = -IE

How Bittr Reopened in Europe with Ruben Waterman

On this episode of the Bitcoin Magazine podcast, Christian Keroles sits down with Bitcoin entrepreneur Ruben Waterman. Ruben innovated in the Bitcoin exchange space with his company Bittr by being one of the first minimalist DCA Bitcoin apps around. Bitter unfortunately had to shut down in 2020 due to heavy handed regulation and uncertain enforcement from AMLD5 in europe. AMLD5 would have forced Bittr, run by a tiny team, to take on an enormous amount of compliance regulation and overhead. Due to this Bittr had to shut down, however Ruben did not lose hope all together. After a brief break, Ruben returned to find a path and partnerships to resurrect his Bitcoiner friendly DCA business.

After a year of struggle, Ruben has found a way to bring Bittr back to Europe. The app allows users to DCA straight from their bank account to their self custody Bitcoin wallet. There is never any custody from Ruben and very minimal KYC requirements for Bitcoiners trying to accumulate slowly over time.

The Epic of Bitcoin with Allen Farrington

Prior to the Bitcoin 2021 Conference, Bitcoin Magazine Podcast host Christian Keroles sat down with keynote speaker and incredible Bitcoin thinker for one of his very first podcasts appearances. This interview covers two of Allen's seminal works and why Farrington prefers to investigate Bitcoin’s cultural and literature alignments over the typical framing of economics, trading and technology.

First Keroles and Farrington dive into his article The Capital Stripmine. The article is a ~30 minute read and it dives into why the current fiat system is effectively strip mining the US and current financial system of its resources. He compares what is going on in capital markets to the strip mining techniques that have become popular in modern day. Allen laments that because of fiat money’s poor incentives, civilization has taken on a growth at all cost mentality and have thrown away all regard for long term thinking and preservation.

Second he get into Allen’s blockbuster article Bitcoin is Venice, Bitcoin Is. In this article Farrington, educates the reader about the anomaly that is Venice Italy at is peak. Venice was a magical mixture of a sound money, capitalistic, and free society when many of its neighbors where still operating in futility. Venice in contrast to other large cities was a bastion for the arts, wealth, and thought. Farrington details how Bitcoin’s sounds and fair monetary properties provide a framework for humanity to return back to Venice esc conditions and hopefully prosperity.

Lastly Keroles and Farrington discuss Allen’s plan’s for his now live Bitcoin 2021 key note presentation titled, The Milk Of Paradise: Bitcoin And The Western Canon. The speech discusses how Western literature, culture, and historical lessons can all be fit into the values and properties that Bitcoin codifies into a physical network on nodes that maintain consensus in a decentralized way. Please enjoy this fascinating conversation with Allen Farrington.

Why Playmate Jessica Vaugn is Coming to Bitcoin 2021

Freelance model, makeup artist and photographer Jessica Vaugn, best known for her work with Playboy, started tumbling down the bitcoin rabbit hole in 2020. She says it completely changed her life and the way she views the world. As a freelancer, she’s always been keen on making independent choices. But it wasn’t until the pandemic lockdowns, she says, that she realized government-run economic systems limit her personal freedoms.

Now, thanks to a penchant for books like “The Bitcoin Standard” and networking with bitcoiners on Twitter, Vaugn says she’s using bitcoin to hedge against the risks of government overreach and inflation. She’s not worried about price volatility, since she’s not hoping to get rich quickly by trading cryptocurrencies. She’s only interested in bitcoin, not anything else in the sea of digital assets, because that’s what she feels is most aligned with her ideological perspective. She says the bitcoin ethos is all about freedom, privacy, and security. And considering the strict pandemic protocols forced on the residents of Los Angeles over the past year, those values have become more important to her now than ever before.

For Vaugn, 2021 is a year of investing in herself by growing her newfound bitcoin knowledge to reshape her career. As Hollywood unions tighten their grip on work opportunities in Los Angeles, Vaugn is flying to Miami to meet experts from the bitcoin community. She’s not sure what the future holds, but she does know having custody of her own bitcoin can offer peace of mind in uncertain times. Welcome to a very special Bitcoin 2021 inspired Panel on the Bitcoin Magazine Podcast. This week Christian Keroles cohosts with Head of Research at Bitcoin Magazine Dylan LeClair a legendary panel with 2 legendary investors involved in the Bitcoin space, Cathie Wood Founder of Ark Invest & Anthony Scaramucci Founder of Skybridge. This panel was recorded on tuesday May 25th after a historically bloody weekend of negative price action. We kick off the conversation discussing the recent volatility in Bitcoin price and how Institutional clients are reacting to it. Scaramucci strongly emphasised that institutions really have not begun to enter into the space and Wood concurred and followed up that many institutions were afraid of top ticking Bitcoin and that the recent correction was healthy and desirable from an institutional perspective.

We move on to discussing ESG and the recent negative press bitcoin has been receiving due to comments made by Elon Musk. Both Cathie and Anthony believe that the environment is important but also believe that Bitcoin’s incentive structure will continue to push it more and more towards renewables.

Lastly we dive into the macro market conditions that investors need to take into account when assessing Bitcoin’s potential market. Wood and Scaramucci take turns breaking down the implications of negatively yielding debt, the everything bubble, deflation, and intermingled counterparty risk all market participants are exposed to.

We close out with Bitcoin price predictions for the year. Please enjoy this fantastic panel with the legendary Cathie Wood and Anthony Scaramucci.

Bitcoin in Congress with Warren Davidson

On this episode of the Bitcoin Magazine Podcast, host Christian Keroles sits down with Congressman Warren Davidson of Ohio! Congressman Davidson burst into the Bitcoin scene in 2019 when in a congressional hearing he mentioned the difference between Bitcoin and “shitcoins” officially putting the term Shitcoin in the official congressional record. Warren has a history in the military and then as an entrepreneur which has greatly shaped his world view and his understanding of the current fiat monetary and banking system. Congressman Davidson recognizes the importance of sound money in a free society and why Bitcoin is well aligned with American values.

Congressman Davidson is on the financial services committee in congress and is working hard to create more regulatory clarity for crypto in general in an effort to make America as competitive as possible for Bitcoin businesses to thrive. Congressman Davidson is acutely aware of how difficult it is today for a Bitcoin business to operate in the United States because of the lack of clarity and the purposely negligent attitude from the SEC regarding a Bitcoin ETF. Davidson is the coauthor of the Token Taxonomy Act which is supposed to bring an enormous amount of clarity and recognition of crypto to the US legal system. The act is still in early stages and Warren is fighting to get it the attention that it deserves.

When Cities Embrace Bitcoin w/ Mayor Scott Conger

This week on the Bitcoin Magazine Podcast, host Christian Keroles sits down with the Mayor of Jackson Tennessee Scott Conger to discuss Scott’s recent interest in Bitcoin. Scott has been the Mayor of Jackson for a few years now and is actually the 3rd person in his family to serve as Mayor of Jackson. Mayor Conger has a very long term commitment to the community in Jackson and wants to see the best for his city. Scott sees Bitcoin as an ideal way for his city to secure its financial future as well as to encourage young remote tech workers to lay down roots in Jackson.

The Pandemic and remote work have revealed a massive opportunity for small to medium sized cities to compete for tech talent and work when they used to be crushed by the major tech hubs like San Francisco and New York. Mayor Conger has been watching Mayor Suarez of Miami closely and taken the cue from him to dive into how embracing Bitcoin can help his city be more competitive.

Christian and Scott reflect on how bitcoin has been relatively de-risked and how his education into Bitcoin taught him more about what is wrong with the current system.

Sustainable Mining in North America with Peter Wall

This week on the Bitcoin Magazine Podcast, host Christian Keroles sat down with the CEO of Argo Blockchain (ARBKF) to cover all things mining. Explaining Taproot Activation and LOT=True VS LOT=False - The Van Wirdum Sjorsnado 29

For more technical content like this Subscribe to The Van Wirdum Sjorsnado in your primary podcast app!

In this episode of The Van Wirdum Sjorsnado, hosts Aaron van Wirdum and Sjors Provoost discuss activation of the Taproot soft fork upgrade, and more specifically, the lock-in on timeout (LOT) parameter. The LOT parameter can be set to either “true” (LOT=true) or “false” (LOT=false).

LOT=false resembles how several previous soft forks were activated. Miners would have one year to coordinate Taproot activation through hash power; if and when a supermajority (probably 90 percent) of miners signal readiness for the upgrade, the soft fork will activate. But if this doesn’t happen within (probably) a year, the upgrade will expire. (After which it could be redeployed.)

LOT=true also lets miners activate the soft fork through hash power, but if they fail to do this within that year, nodes will activate the soft fork regardless.

Aaron and Sjors discuss the benefits and detriments of each option. This also includes some possible scenarios of what could happen if some users set LOT to true, while other users set LOT to false, and the associated risks. Finally, Aaron and Sjors discuss what they think is most likely going to happen with Taproot activation.

Building on Bitcoin W/ Diego Gutierrez Zaldivar
This week on the Bitcoin Magazine podcast, Host Christian Keroles sits down with long time Bitcoiner and cofounder of the RSK Bitcoin Sidechain Diego Gutierrez Zaldivar. RSK has been live on top of Bitcoin since 2018 and has been quietly building a fantastic ecosystem of wallets, Decentralized order-books, Bitcoin backed stablecoins and more. The projects being built on and enabled by RSK have been making an incredible amount of hype in the Bitcoin community and they are all enabled by the RSK sidechain.
RSK is merged mined with Bitcoin and leverages Bitcoin as it's own native currency. Bitcoin has to be pegged into the RSK chain and Diego's team are working on greatly improving the UX and wait time for a trustless peg between BTC and RBTC. We discuss how Bitcoiners can easily and trustlessly peg into the RSK chain and start taking advantage of all the applications built on RSK. There are several user friendly wallets including Edge Wallet that allows for a non technical users to get access to RBTC.
In this interview it is very clear that Diego and his team are true Bitcoiners and are building with Bitcoin's best interest in mind. Because the RSK team is located in Latam and Argentina they have a very close touch with the struggles and needs of the unbanked and underbanked. The Good Word of Bitcoin with Isaiah Jackson

Joe Rodgers had the opportunity to sit down for an interview with Isaiah Jackson to discuss his upcoming book, Bitcoin and Black America Volume 2. Before the interview I read a copy of his first book which laid the groundwork explaining Bitcoin to noobs, but it was written especially for black people. The book covers monetary history and how black people have gotten little to no support from bankers here in America and goes on to make the case that Bitcoin and black people are a no brainer. Jackson says “If any group of people should recognize how media can misrepresent you because they feel threatened, it should be the black community. Bitcoin and the black community are a match made in heaven.”

This week on the Bitcoin Magazine Podcast, Host Christian Keroles sits down with Anil (@AnilSaidSo on Twitter) to discuss his amazing Bitcoin educational content.
Anil has made a name for himself in the Bitcoin community because of the amazing and simple distillations of very complex and important concepts for understanding Bitcoin. Anil creates amazing Twitter threads, web pages and short ebooks to explain concepts like, Why Bitcoin is Neutral, Bitcoin V the Dollar, Notable Bitcoiners, Explaining the Sovereign Individual, understanding Bitcoin with Mental Models, and much much more.
Ck and Anil also go into depth discussing Anil's contribution to Bitcoin Magazine Bitcoin and the Printing Press (released January 8th)
In the article Anil compares the invention of Bitcoin to the invention of the printing press and how both inventions gave power back to the people and took down large and overbearing institutions, ultimately unlocking massive human potential.
"What Johannes Gutenberg and Satoshi Nakamoto gave us were new methods to permissionlessly transport information across time and space, outside the purview of the establishment. This challenges gatekeeper monopolies that are reliant on taxation, incentivizing them to act honestly and provide a valuable service to retain patronage."

Wining Hearts and Minds for Bitcoin w/ Andy Edstrom and Peter McCormack
In this week's Bitcoin Magazine podcast, Christian Keroles sits down with Andy Edstrom and Peter McCormack to discuss their recent contribution to Bitcoin Magazine Wining Hearts and Minds for Bitcoin.
Both Peter and Andy believe that Bitcoin is inevitable and has already won but it can be easier or harder depending on how bitcoin evangelists educate. They believe that thru rhetoric and appeals to moral foundation theory, Bitcoin evangelists can better explain to skeptics and newcomers the numerous positive implications of adopting Bitcoin.
Moral foundations theory is a theory on how humans make decisions and establish attitudes about things. The theory his a heavy influence on the book Righteous Mind which is the
inspiration for the article.
These foundations from Moral Foundations Theory are:
(1) care/harm,
(2) fairness/cheating,
(3) loyalty/betrayal,
(4) authority/subversion,
(5) sanctity/degradation
(6) liberty/oppression.
In the article you all apply this mental model towards mining and energy usage.
"Bitcoiners need to educate people on this topic and avoid beginning passively on the back foot.  Whenever talking to someone who is concerned with Bitcoin’s environmental effects, it may make sense to lead with this question: “Could you please explain to me how we’re going to defeat global warming without Bitcoin?”  (I.e., defend your doomed sticks arguments, and I’ll respond with my Bitcoin carrot.)"

Bitcoin and Satoshi in Venezuela w/ Javier Bastardo
This week on the Bitcoin Magazine Podcast, ck sits down with Javier Bastardo from Satoshi en Venezuela. This is a wide ranging, real and heart felt conversation about the real trials that the Venezuelan people are subject to because of the totalitarian regime currently in control. Javier tells of his story discovering and living on Bitcoin since 2017 and how Bitcoin gave him both financial stability and community during his persecution living in Venezuela. While Javier is hopeless for Venezuela today he is hopeful personally because of Bitcoin. Javier warns Bitcoiners in the west not to simply use Venezuela as a Bitcoin case study. Venezuelans are suffering at the hands of an evil and parasitic regime. Bitcoin may help but there are many barriers to Bitcoin adoption in Venezuela that prevents the majority of people from leveraging it.

How to Store Your Bitcoin w/ Douglas Bakkum of Shift Crypto - Bitcoin Magazine Podcast
This week ck sits down with long time Bitcoiner and builder Douglas Bakkum. Douglas is the CEO and cofounder of hardware wallet maker Shift Crypto. Douglas and his team have been working hard from very early on to create a hardware wallet experience that is suitable for newbies but has the most important advanced features for maximum sovereignty, safety and trustlessness.
This is a very wide ranging conversation covering Douglas's history, the inspiration for Shift Crypto, the Bitbox 02, and all about Bitcoin cold storage and custody.
The conversation gets pretty technical as we get into the nuances around Wallet Ux and new innovations around Multisig. Douglas is hopeful for the future of multisig but is also skeptical of folks embracing it too early. There are still lots of kinks that need to be ironed out according to Douglas even though Bitcoin Multisig has gotten immensely better.

Sovereign Bitcoin, What is Soveryn with Edan Yago - Bitcoin Magazine Podcast

In this week’s episode of the Bitcoin Magazine Podcast host ck sits down with Edan Yago of the Soveryn Project to discuss Soveryn and how they are building decentralized infrastructure for Bitcoin.

Soveryn is like a company except that it runs completely on bitcoin and they are not incorporated in any company. It is a fully remote new kind of company that is fluid, distributed, and powered by Bitcoin.

Soveryn has developed an exchange and programmatic USD coin system leveraging the RSK Bitcoin sidechain and they are actively looking at other BTC layer two technology to scale their services.

Soveryn likes RSK’s technology because it is based off of the existing Ethereum technology stack making it interoperable with the entire ethereum defi ecosystem. Eden discusses how the members of the Soveryn team refer to themselves as Bitcoin Mutants rather than Bitcoin Maximalists. According to Yago, the Mutants understand that Bitcoin is key but they are not afraid to leverage the decentralized tech being built elsewhere. They see the Ethereum and altcoin ecosystem as an opportunity for Bitcoin to conquer as the defacto money and trading pair.

The Soveryn team sees Bitcoin as the main building block of the new decentralized economy and think Bitcoiners should not settle for centralized technology solutions.

Fed Watch - Central Bank Policy: 2020 Year in Review - FED 35

Fed Watch is moving feeds! Search for “Fed Watch - Bitcoin and Macro” on your podcast app.

In this episode, Christian and Ansel discuss the monetary policy of the three major central banks, the Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank, and the Bank of Japan. They step through the crisis, from the central banks’ position upon entering 2020, through the panic months of March and April, to how they all ended the year in a holding pattern.

The Fed gets blamed for unleashing a flood of liquidity and money printing on the world, but in fact, they were probably the most reserved out of the major central banks. If anyone should suffer inflation of their currency it is the Bank of Japan. Their central bank balance sheet alone is now 126% of their countries GDP, and the ECB’s balance sheet is over 55% of the Eurozone GDP. The Fed looks the tamest of the three in this respect, coming in at only 34%. If QE is money printing, we should expect inflation in these smaller currencies first, but what do we see? They are stuck in deflation and heading for another crash.

Lastly, Christian and Ansel sum up what they think about this year in regards to central banks and bitcoin.

The Van Wirdum Sjorsnado - Why Open Source Matters for Bitcoin - NADO 21

In this episode of The Van Wirdum Sjorsnado, Aaron and Sjors discuss why it matters that Bitcoin software is open source… and why even open source software doesn't necessarily solve all software-specific trust issues.

In theory, the fact that most Bitcoin nodes, wallets and applications are open source should ensure that developers can’t include malicious code in the programs: anyone can inspect the source code for malware. In practice, however, the number of people with enough expertise to do this is limited, while the reliance of some Bitcoin projects on external code libraries (“dependencies”) makes it even harder.

Furthermore, even if the open source code is sound, this doesn’t guarantee that the binaries (computer code) really correspond with the open source code. Aaron and Sjors explain how this risk is largely mitigated in Bitcoin through a process called Gitian building, where several Bitcoin Core developers sign the binaries if, and only if, they all produced the exact same binaries from the same source code. This requires special compiler software.

Finally, Aaron and Sjors discuss Guix, a relatively new project that goes above and beyond the Gitian process, to minimize the level of trust required to turn source code into binaries — including trust in the compiler itself.

Tyler Winklevoss, Bitcoin Ultra Bull - Bitcoin Magazine Podcast

Bitcoin Magazine's very own Joe Rodgers interview Tyler Winklevoss of Gemini and Winklevoss Capital. We discussed how crazy 2020 has been, as well as his passion for Bitcoin, personal life and outlook for 2021.

We started our conversation by digging into an article that he and his brother, Cameron, published in August titled “The Case For $500K Bitcoin.” In this piece, they lay out a bullish case for Bitcoin and how they arrived at that number for its future price. I asked Winklevoss about this article’s target audience and he told me that “We wanted this to be for everyone… we wanted it to be technical but approachable.”

This is an article you can print out and leave with your family members over the holidays. If it doesn’t orange-pill them, it will at least get some good conversation out of them.

Later, we touch on The Great Reset. It turns out that Winklevoss hasn’t wasted any cycles thinking about it and was quick to point out the lunacy of the state fixing the problem it created with more intervention. As a former Olympian, he is still focused on his health and we spoke about what works for him regarding physical and mental wellbeing. Spoiler alert: sugar bad, exercise good.

As we wrapped up the recording, we touched on what’s to come in 2021 and beyond. I’ve watched Winklevoss from the sidelines for years and I respect what he’s built. He’s taken on the difficult challenge of developing Bitcoin-friendly regulations in New York and has ambitious plans to bring Gemini to the rest of the world in 2021. I have no doubt he will succeed — he’s been a competitor his whole life and has a track record of excellence.

Before this podcast, I had only a basic understanding of where Winklevoss’s head is, but now it’s clear to me. He might be a billionaire, but he’s one of us. He’s an ultra bull. He wants the state out of the business of money and he’s a Bitcoin true believer.

Lastly, what would a bitcoin podcast be without a discussion about MicroStrategy and MassMutual. Bitcoiners have been expecting this type of adoption for years, so it is exciting but expected.

Nik Bhatia, famous Bitcoin thinker and economist join's Bitcoin Magazine podcast to discuss the recent corporate bond MicroStrategy issued to buy more Bitcoin. Nik has a deep history in the bond world, Nik explained that this is just the beginning for Bond issuance for Bitcoin purposes emphasizing that corporations can issue bonds for whatever purpose they can justify to investors.

Next, we dive into his new book "Layered Money" which is currently available for preorder. Nik explains how the current monetary system has been built in layers and how Bitcoin is the first new asset that lives completely outside of the current system.

Lastly Nik answers some cosmic questions about the future of money and what a Bitcoin based financial system looks like.

Bitcoin is such a unique asset because it is not a liability on someone else's balance sheet. MSTR buying Bitcoin and what that means for the bond market. People call it speculative attack Nik calls it arbitrage. We can see many types of companies issuing bonds to buy Bitcoins and their reasoning will completely very. The Van Wirdum Sjorsnado - RSK, federated sidechains and Powpeg - NADO 20

In this episode of The Van Wirdum Sjorsnado, hosts Aaron van Wirdum and Sjors Provoost discuss RSK’s shift from a federated sidechain model to the project’s new Powpeg solution. RSK is a merge mined Ethereum-like Bitcoin sidechain developed by IOVlabs. Bitcoin users can effectively move their coins to this blockchain that operates more like Ethereum, and move the coins back to the Bitcoin blockchain when they so choose. Some Bitcoin miners utilize their hashpower to mine bocks on the sidechain, and earn some extra transaction fees by doing so.The tricky part of any sidechain is allowing users to securely move their coins between blockchains. This is technically done by locking coins on the Bitcoin blockchain and issuing corresponding coins on the sidechain, and vice versa: locking coins on the sidechain to unlock the coins on the Bitcoin blockchain. So far, RSK did this by locking the coins into a multi-signature address, for which the private keys were controlled by a group of well-known companies. A majority of them was needed to unlock the coins, which they were to only do if and when the corresponding sidechain coins were locked.RSK is now switching to a Powpeg model where the keys to the multi-signature address are controlled by special tamper-proof hardware modules that are in turn programmed to only unlock coins on the Bitcoin blockchain if and when the corresponding coins on the sidechain are locked, and the transactions to lock these coins up have a significant number of confirmations.Aaron and Sjors explain how this works exactly, and discuss some of Powpeg’s security tradeoffs.

On this episode of the Bitcoin Magazine Podcast, host BranBTC sat down with Kraken’s Bitcoin specialist (and everyone’s favorite Bitcoin maximalist) Pierre Rochard to discuss the STABLE Act that was recently introduced to the public by members of the U.S. Congress.

Rochard initially took a broad view on the topic, insisting that looking too closely at the language and intent of the STABLE Act would miss the bigger picture. Instead, he wanted to focus on the conditions of our society that have allowed preconceived notions of money to grant an elite class unfathomable power over the lives of everyday Americans. For more information on the STABLE bill itself, as well as its vast implications and potentially unintended consequences, read through CoinCenter’s article, which breaks down the bill.

Fed Watch - Fed vs ECB - FED 33

Fed vs ECB - FED 33

In this episode of Fed Watch, Christian and Ansel get into specifics on the plans of the ECB in regard to their digital euro. We are told in the media that central banks are very much going to be releasing a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) and it will have damaging effects. However, on this podcast we get our information directly from the source. First, we must answer is a digital euro likely and why, which is what we do in this episode. In later episodes we will cover the side-effects of CBDCs if there are any.

On November 30, 2020, the President of the ECB, Christine Lagarde released a blog post detailing the ECB’s current thoughts on money and how a digital euro, or CBDC, fits into their plans. I talked about this on my recent episode of Bitcoin & Markets, and Christian wanted to explore the idea of the worries of the ECB specifically, because their thinking seems to be heavily worried about monetary sovereignty.

That term, “monetary sovereignty” came up several times is Lagarde’s blog post in context to why they feel pursuing a CBDC is necessary. This contrasts Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s comments which focus on patience and conservatism instead of worries about monetary sovereignty. Why is this?

Most likely this is because their already are digital stablecoins, similar to how a digital euro would function, in the market. There is a big problem in the free market offerings of these stablecoins, from the ECB vantage point; they are 99% US dollar based. If the ECB were not to act, the market might completely bypass use of the euro in favor of a digital dollar. That is a scary possibility for the ECB, so they must provide that option for the market, and maybe even require its use in some cases to maintain the euro’s global position.

This episode also discusses the recent MicroStrategy “bonds for bitcoin” proposal. Listen to find out if this is the first signs of the long awaited “speculative attack” on fiat by bitcoin, and what to watch out for as this move receives the keen attention of regulators.

We also discuss jurisdictional arbitrage at length. How does bitcoin enable jurisdictional arbitrage even within the regions, like between US States or European countries? Of course, as good bitcoiners, this leads us to a cosmic back and forth about citadel locations, and the best place to live in the future from a freedom and economic standpoint.

Fantastic episode, heavy on central bank commentary. Do not forget to subscribe to Fed Watch’s new RSS feed, so you don’t miss any of our great guest insights in the future.

The Van Wirdum Sjorsnado - Mempools, Child Pays for Parent, and Package Relay - NADO 19

In this episode of The Van Wirdum Sjorsnado, hosts Aaron van Wirdum and Sjors Provoost discussed Bitcoin mempools, Child Pays For Parent (CPFP) and package relay. Package relay is the project that Gloria Zhao will work on as part of her Brink fellowship, which was announced earlier this week, and would make the Lightning Network more robust (among other benefits). Mempools are the collections of unconfirmed transactions stored by nodes, from which they forward transactions to peers. Miners usually select the transactions from their mempools that include the highest fees, to include these in the blocks they mine. Mempools can get full, however, at which point transactions that pay the lowest fees are ejected. This is actually a problem in context of CPFP, a trick that lets users speed up low-fee transactions by spending the coins from that transactions in a new transaction with a high fee to compensate. Tricks like these can be particularly important in the context of time-sensitive protocols like the Lightning Network. In this episode, van Wirdum and Provoost explained how package relay could enable CPFP, even in cases where low-fee transactions are dropped from mempools, by bundling transactions into packets. And they explore why this may be easier said than done.

Lightning and Gaming with Mint Gox - Bitcoin Magazine Podcast

On this episode of the Bitcoin Magazine Podcast, CK sits down with the team behind the MintGox Lightning-enabled gaming initiatives. Desiree Dickerson of Lightning Labs, plus Simon Cowell and Christian Moss of ZebeDee take turns discussing why Bitcoin and Lightning are such game changers for the future of human commerce in general, and gaming specifically.

One of the key points of the conversation revolves around how it is necessary for folks to onboard onto Bitcoin without permission, and to onboard directly onto the Lightning Network where they can transact with small amounts.

As discussed on this episode, the group thinks that micro payments enabled by Lightning opens up a completely new paradigm in the way value and services will be exchanges.

Lastly, the group covered how the most meaningful activities in the world are being uploaded to the web. It discussed how this really favors both Bitcoin and gaming as the world goes digital.

Fed Watch - Reflecting on Jeff Booth Bombshell Podcast! FED 32

In this off the cuff episode of Fed Watch, Christian and I dive more deeply into the technology driven deflation debate we started last week with our guest Jeff Booth. We bring up the chicken or the egg conversation that did not get answered fully last time; is the deflation from technology first or is the inflationary environment first? In other words, which force is primary? We discuss that topic again, and also touch on the problem that not all technology is equally inflationary.

Modern finance preceded the industrial revolution and it is widely accepted that technological advance and economic stimulus are directly correlated. Ansel attempts to make the claim that it is the culture and capital structure that results from debt-based fiat money that incentivizes massive technological advancement.

Without debt-based fiat money the deflationary pressure from innovation will return to the natural and gradual speed we saw throughout the days of the classic gold standard. Don’t forget to subscribe to Fed Watch so you don’t miss any of our great guest insights in the future.

In this episode of Fed Watch, Christian and I are joined by Jeff Booth. It results in a show that is unlike any other interview with Jeff you may have seen. Most listeners are familiar with his book, so we spend most of our time discussing what a timeline of events looks like from Jeff’s perspective, and then some possible limitations to the technology driven deflation theory. In usual Fed Watch style, we end with trying to understand how bitcoin affects these arguments and what bitcoin means for the world.

The Fiat Standard w/ Saifedean Ammous - Bitcoin Magazine Podcast

In this podcast, Saifedean and Nik dive into multiple topics surrounding fiat money such as the underlying technology behind fiat, the debt standard, fiat states, and fiat banking.

Understanding how fiat operates in comparison to Bitcoin can be a difficult task. Since Bitcoin is an open-source protocol, it allows anyone and everyone to check it’s code down to the very last detail to ensure that you can understand how it operates. Fiat, on the other hand, has smokescreens hiding the operational methods of it. With an additional layer of propaganda promoted by people who benefit from it the most.

Fed Watch - Financial Hurricanes and the Dollars Dilemma - FED 30

This episode of Fed Watch is a cosmic ride though the broad topics of money, central banks, and bitcoin. Christian and Ansel start by extending the analogy of a financial hurricane, which Ansel spoke about in another recent podcast. Many people point to certain asset price rises as a sign of inflation, however, Ansel argues that it is a natural evolution of prices due to the malfunctioning financial system. This malfunctioning financial system acts similarly to a physical natural disaster by distorting supply and demand for goods. During a decade-long financial hurricane, changes occur not only to asset allocations of investors but the system itself can evolve. It affects the pipes and infrastructure of the financial system, favoring relatively “safer” global assets like US Treasuries and US stocks. The economic behavior, products, and relationships that form during a financial hurricane will favor hedging against deflation rather than risk taking or behavior aimed at expansion.
