Have you been trying to declutter your home, but you lack the motivation or energy to make it actually happen? Well, my friend, a decluttering challenge may be just the thing you need!

A decluttering challenge helps you let go of the stuff cluttering up your home or life. It can be very specific and focus on only one area of your life like your wardrobe or very broad and address your home, mindset, habits and more.

A decluttering challenge can be short and last a few days or extend for a full year (as one of the options I discuss in today's podcast episode does).

However, challenges give you a fun way to switch things up which makes decluttering feel more like a game. It’s been shown that your information and skill retention increase by as much as 40% when what you are working on is gamified.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will also help you discover:

- My favorite things about declutter challenges

- Why decluttering challenges are so powerful

- The best way to start a decluttering challenge

- How to fit a decluttering challenge into your life

- What I don't like about each challenge so you know what to look out for

What does minimalism mean to you? Does it make you think of stark walls? Do you think it means living with the least amount of stuff possible?

That’s not what minimalism means to me. For me, minimalism means freedom. Freedom to buy less and thus need less money. Freedom to travel more instead of buying a large home. Freedom to change careers instead of owning a fancy car.

Being a wannabe minimalist is someone who lives intentionally, but is not defined by how much or how little they own. A wannabe minimalist is intentional about what they allow into their homes because they know once it’s in, it’s ten times harder to get out.

This episode gives you a peek behind the curtain and the three life changing events that drew me to minimalism. I rarely speak so candidly about how I live my life and what really goes on behind closed doors.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will also help you discover:

- How I got into minimalism in the first place

- If my husband was always on board with this idea of living with less

- How minimalism works for our family of three

- What I really think of decluttering toys

- Strategies for decluttering and creating a happy home

Have you ever wished you could think your way to a tidy home? After all, you know the vision of the way you want your home to be, so why is it so difficult to get it.

The reality is, even if you declutter, without the right mindsets around stuff and a few simple habits to help you create better systems and routines, your home will more than likely become messy again.

That's because our mindsets not only control our thoughts, but our actions.

The good news is that you can create better mindsets - those that will support you on your journey to a better life instead of sabotaging any success you might have. And when you boost those mindsets with good habits, you can make it so clutter no longer overwhelms you or your home and massive decluttering sessions can become a thing of the past.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will also help you discover:

- Why mindsets dictate so much of our lives and what to do about them

- Four amazing mindset shifts that will help build you up so you can go for your dreams

- How to make lasting changes and kick temporary fixes to the curb

- Two simple habits you can start today

You want to declutter. You know it will make a positive difference in your home or life. So, why is it so hard and why do you resist it so much?

The answer is that you are running up against a decluttering roadblock. These are mental blocks that keep us from decluttering and detaching from our things. Some of them you may already understand you're facing, but some may be trickier; lurking in the recess of your mind without you really knowing they are in your way.

The first step to making any meaningful change in life is to shine a light on areas in our lives that we want to change. Once you know the change you want to make you can commit to making it happen.

If you want a tidier home that you can be proud of, one that's easy to clean, or make it easy to find things, or to not be ashamed of what it might look like if people show up unannounced, these roadblocks could be what are holding you back.

And clearing out these roadblocks will also help clear your mind so you can find the calm in your head as well as your home.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will also help you discover:

- The most common decluttering roadblocks everyone faces so you know you are not alone

- Why it's important to face the things in your way before you dive into decluttering

- What some of these roadblocks mean when it comes to your stuff

- How knowing the mindsets holding you back is half the battle when it comes to decluttering

- The #1 way you can find freedom from these roadblocks on your way to a tidy home and vibrant life

Is it possible to declutter and live a more simple life without being wasteful?

This was a question asked to me by Wendy recently in my private Wannabe Minimalist Family Community (click here if you want to join). And it’s a common question that a lot of us face on our journey to better lives with less stuff.

After we get over the urge to buy, spend, and add more to our lives and in our homes, the guilt of having spent so much over the years and the idea of just tossing it all can get pretty heavy.

There are several different ways to look at what we mean by wasteful. It could be tied to money, or the environment, or the ideas we had for our future selves that never really materialized. No matter which way you slice it, guilt and the feeling of wastefulness often appear as we declutter, downsize, and let go of things we no longer need.

But, the good news is, there are a few tried and true strategies for overcoming this feeling of guilt. If you are in a place where you want to bridge the juxtaposition between wanting to simplify and wanting to be resourceful and not wasteful, then this episode is for you.

This podcast episode will not only walk you through the different meanings of wastefulness and guilt, but will also show you how to overcome them and move forward in an authentic way. Get ready to live the simple and intentional life you’re longing for…guilt-free!

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- The 3 things we mean when we talk about being wasteful

- How a simple mindset shift can get you to see your stuff in a new light

- Why holding on to stuff can be more wasteful than letting it go

- The #1 strategy for having less stuff that has nothing to do with decluttering

- Ways to let go of the guilt holding you back from purging items you no longer use so you can live your best life.

Have you struggled to declutter and organize your home and life in the past? Perhaps you were just using the wrong techniques. Just like we all have different innate personalities, there are ways to tidy up that come more naturally to each person.

Along my journey to living a better life with less stuff, I have discovered two main ways people declutter and organize the stuff the own, the spaces they live in, and their social lives.

The first is editing the stuff you have by removing the unnecessary and the second is curating what you keep by only allowing in the items you care about in the first place.

Neither is better than the other and it’s important to use the techniques and strategies that work best for you. When you use the proper option for your personality, decluttering and organizing becomes so much easier. You can stop fighting against your natural tendencies and finally make progress.

Today’s episode will not only walk you through the differences between editing and curating your things, but will also show you how to use the techniques in 6 distinct areas of your home and life so you can put them into practice right away.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- How editing and curating relate to being an introvert and extrovert

- Why it’s so important to declutter and organize based on your personality

- What to do so you can make progress and quickly tidy up

- A look at 6 distinct areas where you can use editing or curating in your life

- Whether Marie Kondo and The Minimalists are editors or curators

**********************Do you watch those Tiny Living shows on HGTV or browse tiny homes on Instagram and dream of living small yourself? The homes look so quaint and relaxing and the people living in them swear they are like a secret to finding happiness.

I have always been curious about the movement myself and wanted to see what it was really like.

The best way to see what it’s like is to try it on for size and that’s exactly what we did! This summer I embarked on a tiny living experiment with my husband, our daughter, and my parents. While we did not live in the RV long term - and I do not live with my parents in regular life - we did live in it long enough to get a good idea of what full time living would be like.

These are the top 10 lessons I learned from living tiny that I am taking into my everyday life of living as a wannabe minimalist. Some you are probably expecting, but some may come as a surprise.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- What it’s really like to live tiny as a family

- The most important thing to remember when living tiny

- Why living tiny may not be for everyone

- How to see through what others are saying to find what you really want

- A simple hack that works for every home - not just tiny ones.

Imagine this…you’re decluttering your home and pick up an object that you’re not really attached to. You haven’t used recently and it doesn’t really spark joy so you’re planning to donate it. But then, your mind suddenly stops you and you hear a voice asking, “but, what if I need it?”

In that moment you find yourself running through all kinds of scenarios when this object will be the one thing you need on a very specific day (that to be honest probably won’t happen), but now you are second guessing giving that item away.

If that sounds familiar, it’s okay. We’ve all had our minds race to find situations when we can use the items we are decluttering. However, it’s time we ditched the age-old question of, “but, what if I need this?” and ask one of these 10 different questions instead.

These 10 questions, or different angles, will help you see your item in it’s true light so you can better evaluate if it deserves to take up the precious space in your home and in your mind.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- 10 new questions to ask to help you declutter your items

- How to distinguish between needs and wants

- Why people are pushing back on minimalism and how to find a happy balance

- A hack that helps anyone having a hard time with the decision fatigue that comes with decluttering

- A revolutionary truth that may be the key to unlocking your ability to fully declutter your space

Of course at the time this is released, we’re just coming out of a crazy year. I, like a lot of people, have not hosted guests or visitors to my home in over a year so to say my home is in a state of comfort is an understatement. These 5 steps are the best ways I have found to get your home in shape as quickly as possible so that you can confidently open your home back up and invite friends over. They are not perfect forever solutions - we talk about that too - but they make the biggest impact in the shortest time so you can get on with living your life to the fullest.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- The 5 exact steps I use when I need to get my home in order quickly

- Why progress is better than perfection

I have a confession to make…I’m a challenge junkie. Not sure what it is about them, but having a goal and a group to cheer me on, gives me the motivation I need to make the changes that I deep down want to make, but struggle to complete on my own.

It’s probably one of the biggest reasons I created my blog, LittleGreenBow.com and the Wannabe Minimalist podcast - so I would have accountability to see my commitments through.

And after a VERY long year, it’s time to get over the Fatigue (yes, I capitalized it on purpose) and clear out the stuff and clutter that’s been piling up. With this challenge, you can choose your own path based on what works best for your situation and personality, but no matter which you choose, by the end of 30 days you will have decluttered over 450 items from your home.

You just have to decide if you are a snowball or an avalanche…

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- The difference between the snowball and avalanche declutter challenge methods

- Why I think The Minimalists do not have the best approach for busy women

- How you can actually declutter over 450 items in one month

- Ideas for getting your family on board and joining the challenge

- Where to join in the decluttering challenge

Have you ever wondered how some people keep their homes neat and tidy while you struggle with putting things away? A lot of it has to do with the mindsets you carry with you.

When I first started out on my minimalism journey, I wondered how some people seemed to be just naturally neat and organized. You see, if you have just met me, you might think that I am one of those people…but I’ll let you in on a little secret…I used to be messy. And there are still times in my life - like when work gets busy or my daughter has a week off school, or my husband’s under a deadline…that things get out of control and our home looks like a chaos tornado whipped through it.

I am anything but perfect and that’s okay. Perfect is overrated and not possible anyway.

But, on my journey, I’ve learned several tips and phrases that I like to call mantras that have inspired and helped me to focus and keep the right frame of mind when it comes to my stuff. And they can help you too. I truly believe that our thoughts become our actions and our actions become our habits that shape your lives for better or worse.

Today’s episode will give you 7 of these mantras or sayings that neat and tidy people live by. And bonus, they’re easy to remember so you can start using them in your life too!

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- The simple phrases you need to keep your decluttering on-track

- Why what we tell ourselves is so important and how it affects our actions

- How to use mantras and avoid becoming woo-woo

- A more productive way to tackle the stuff in your home that you want to declutter

- My #1 saying to deal with just in case clutter that is holding you back

Did you catch THE interview with Meghan, Harry, and Oprah this week? With over 28 million viewers on Sunday night between the UK and US, I am sure you have at least heard rumblings of it by now.

The thing that stuck out to me was how Meghan said she felt trapped. It struck a cord because I understood how she felt. I felt like that too at one point.

Listening to the interview was a reminder that none of us ever knows what’s really going on in someone’s life. They could seem like they have it all together and are living an envious life, but they could feel trapped and suffocated.

And it dawned on me that if I had felt that way - when anyone who looked at my life might have envied it - then others are feeling this way too.

If that’s you, I want you to know that you are not alone. It’s okay to feel this way, or to have felt this way, but let’s find a way out because it’s not okay that you stay there.

So, today’s show is all about 5 tips to help you get to the other side when you feel trapped or like you’re just going through the motions and hardly see the point of it all.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- that you are not alone (even if you feel like you are all alone on an island)

- the first simple step you can do to start putting the pieces back together

- why tiny steps are bigger than big changes when you feel stuck

- a more productive way to look at problem solving vs. this or that

- my secret weapon when it comes to de-stressing when life feels out of control

With the upcoming launch my newest course, Vibrant Home Academy, I realized there was one aspect of the course I had not talked about much on this podcast.

And I think that’s because it’s not a topic that is generally thought of as minimalist.

It’s that of meal planning.

Maybe we’re not going to cut down on the number of meals we eat each day, but we can be more intentional about how we plan what we eat without it taking forever and costing a fortune.

So, how does one meal plan like a minimalist? The answer is with Capsule Meal Plans!

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- how to plan a week of healthy dinners with 25 ingredients or less

- the simple process that turns meal planning on it’s head

- how to keep meals interesting, delicious, and healthy

The holiday season means so many things to each of us. It’s a chance to connect with loved ones, eat delicious food, and give and receive presents. It’s also a great time to unwind and reflect on the past year. I am sure you are as ready as I am for 2020 to be DONE.

However, in most years, the holiday season can be super hectic and I am sure I’m not the only one who has spent a small fortune on gifts in the past between family, friends, kids, co-workers, teachers, neighbors…and on and on. Combine that with parties, plays, travel, shopping, and planning on top of our already busy schedules and it’s no wonder this is not always the “most wonderful time of the year”.

When the holidays get out of control it doesn’t end my year on the note I was hoping for. Sound familiar?

So let’s take a minute to create the holiday season of our dreams by cutting out what doesn’t really matter to us and our families and keeping the things we love. It’s all about a Simple Holiday Season.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- How to get to the heart of what you and your family love about the holidays

- 7 simple ways to actually enjoy this time of year

- A trick for figuring out your family’s favorite holiday celebrations

- Why water is my secret weapon during this busy time of year when it’s so easy to gain weight

- Simple gift giving ideas for everyone in the family

It’s no secret that the world feels pretty crazy these days. In fact, I was pretty down in the dumps a few weeks ago. It was just getting to be too much.

As busy moms, we’ve already got so much on our plates in the best of times and now with EVERYTHING else that is 2020, it’s hard to stay sane.

Not only do we have the coronavirus, it feels like the whole world is falling apart. In the U.S. we have the politicalization of mask wearing, a no-holds-barred election (even local races are getting ugly), long-overdue protests for equal rights, huge climate issues (I’m in CA so the giant forest fires come to mind), an unraveling economic crisis, oh and we’re supposed to be able to teach our kids from home so it was time for me to figure out how to get some quiet alone time back.

These 9 strategies have been working amazingly well and helping me find calm in this crazy world. I know they can work for you too.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- What we recently started doing that has made the biggest impact for our whole family

- Why having less clutter is essential for creating a calm home

- The #1 thing I was super hesitant to do, but am now super happy I did and why you should do it too

- How to carve out time for yourself even if you feel you have no time in your day

- How I use my watch to be present for my family

Are you a parent wanting to declutter your kids’ things, but not sure the right way to do it? Maybe you have sentimental children who don’t want to let anything go. Or maybe you’re sentimental and have a hard time decluttering too. Or perhaps your home is bursting at the seams and it’s just time for a change and less stuff.

No matter what you are facing, you are not alone.

While I was on my minimalist journey before having a child, like most parenting advice…it completely changed one I became one.

I felt like I had to start back at square one because so many people tell you babies need a lot of stuff and as a first time parent you want your precious baby to want for nothing.

But, life happens and along the way I learned to let a lot go. So much that we sold/donated/tossed about 90% of what we owned and traveled Europe with baby in tow.

These are the tips, tricks, and hacks I’ve learned about decluttering with children and how we have grown on our journey together.

Yes, my daughter understands what minimalism means to us, but it does not mean that she doesn’t have toys.

It’s a balancing act.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- How my journey as a minimalist has evolved

- Tips for how to help children that are sentimental

- What types of gifts I recommend for families

- My #1 piece of advice when decluttering with others (kids and partners too)

- The unique tip I would give a busy mom that Jenna’s never heard before and is going to implement herself

There’s been so much talk of home organization recently with the new Get Organized with The Home Edit show on Netflix, but there are some critical steps that you don’t get to see behind the scenes.

Most of us have used decluttering and organizing interchangeably in the past. We think we declutter when we just organize all of our stuff. Or we say we’re getting organized when we are really sorting though our belongings, but not grouping or categorizing them. But, as I have continued to dive into, sort, toss, donate, and purge my stuff I have noticed there are stark differences between these methods.

That’s why we’re looking at the differences between home organization and decluttering and what you really need to know about the two.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- The main differences between decluttering and organizing

- The best order to conquer your home clutter so that you save time, energy and money

- When home organizing became a thing (it might surprise you!)

- What I thought was missing from The Home Edit TV show

- How minimalism fits into it all

One of the struggles many people face is finding happiness on our journey in life. I’m no different and that is why I was so excited to have a real conversation with Shannon Wolfe about what led her to minimalism and how she is finding happiness while throwing out perfection.

Think about it this way…have you ever struggled with imposter syndrome or feeling like a fraud? I have.

I tell people I am a minimalist, but then fear being judged because my house might have less stuff in it than a lot of people, but it sure doesn’t look like the magazines.

Shannon can relate and that’s one of the things I loved about our conversation. In fact she has something to say to those people who claim they are perfect, but you’ll have to listen to find out what it is.

Shannon Wolfe is a mom and grandma, as well as a jewelry maker, music lover, book consumer, and yoga enthusiast. She says she's 95% Whole Foods - Plant Based and 5% junk food princess. How great is that description?

She also created a super popular minimalism living Group on Facebook called Minimalist - Simple living.

I hope you enjoy our candid conversation about what minimalism means to us and then I encourage you to join both of our Facebook communities to dive deeper into the conversation.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- What it means to be a minimalist

- Why you should strive to be happy instead of perfect (in minimalism or any other aspect of your life)

- How to achieve your goals even when you stumble a bit and struggle to stay on course

- Advice for how to help other people in your life embrace minimalism, decluttering, and living with less stuff

- The best advice about minimalism that Shannon has ever received

You’ve heard about capsule wardrobes, but have you ever tried one yourself? Maybe you love clothes and think a capsule wardrobe is too restrictive. Or maybe your life is filled with so many different activities you’d make a super hero’s head spin with all the outfit changes and you have no idea where to start.

But, the good news is that capsule wardrobes are the opposite of restrictive and in fact give you the freedom to really enjoy everything in your closet. They also help corral the clothing you need for various activities and help you see there are holes in your wardrobe you need to fill.

Buying more clothes was probably not the advice you expected from a wannabe minimalist. Am I right?

The truth is that there is no magic number of clothing items we need in our closets, but most of us can and should be living with a lot less.

My guest on the latest episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show can help you love your closet and love getting dressed everyday. Erin Flynn, co-founder and CEO of cladwell.com give us the personal styling app of our dreams and even coordinates our clothes based on the weather - wherever we are!

Erin's led Cladwell's growth over the last 4 years and most recently acquired Cladwell with her husband to turn it into an independently owned company. She has gone through top accelerators like 500 Startups and is currently part of Indie.vc's latest investment. She previously founded an influencer marketing startup called Canopi and has also led the launch of E.W Scripps’ first national digital subscription service.

Erin and her husband Colin are living bigger lives with smaller wardrobes in Cincinnati with 1 super Irish sounding kid (Rooney) and a very formal puggle named Mr. Pug.

Let’s explore what creating a capsule wardrobe could mean for you and let’s find the joy in your closet.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- What a capsule wardrobe really is

- How to think about creating a capsule wardrobe if you live somewhere with distinct seasons or lots of different lifestyle activities.

- Why we feel compelled to shop all the time

- How to overcome consumer habits of clothes shopping and what to do instead

- The advice about minimalism that changed Erin’s life

Do you have a hard time finishing what you start?

No judgment here if the answer is yes! I used to leave projects and tasks unfinished all the time. It made me feel awful, but I just didn’t know how to change it.

You see, I’m a natural starter. That means I have no problem starting projects, trying new things, or jumping in with both feet. However, I generally tend to lose interest, change focus, or just stop projects with our completing them.

But, I knew that had to change. Not only did it not feel great and hurt my self esteem, it made me seem like a flake and undependable.

So, I set out to learn how to become a completer and finish what I started…no matter how difficult.

These are the 7 tried and true secrets l discover and now I want to help you finish what you start too.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- How to finish what you start

- The secret to why you’ve struggled in the past

- Why it’s important to finish what you start

- How finishing what you start will help you declutter your home and life

Are you embarrassed or nervous to call yourself a wannabe minimalist? Do you think your family or friends will laugh at you when you tell them you want to declutter your home, get rid of the stuff overwhelming your life, and live with intention?

My guest on the latest episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show can help you overcome these fears. Kelsey Sholin from delightofmine.com is new on her path toward living with less stuff so that she can enjoy life more.

As a mom of three very energetic boys, Kelsey has recently discovered the importance of having a simplified home. While she says the process of actually decluttering the stuff is not easy and they’re emotionally attached to some of their possessions, it’s been so worth all the effort to free up space and have less material items demanding their attention all the time.

That’s nothing to be embarrassed about.

Your family, friends, and internal spirit are worth your attention and love and are so much more important that all the stuff we have been told we are supposed to care about so don’t let that fear of what other’s will think hold you back any longer.

Kelsey also has an amazing tip for anyone just starting out. When you are at the bottom of a mountain, it can be daunting to see the giant peak in front of you, but she uses a brilliant and simple mind shift to get over this hurdle. She realized that half will always be greater than zero. So even if the task cannot be fully completed or done perfectly in the moment, she no longer puts it off until later. Instead she completes as much of it as she can because doing something is better than doing nothing.

If you have ever wondered how to start decluttering or worried about what others might think when you do, this show is for you.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- What it’s like to start your minimalism journey with kids

- Kelsey’s secret to decluttering even if you don’t have enough time

- Why even small efforts can make a BIG difference

- How to overcome embarrassment when going after your dreams

- The best advice about minimalism Kelsey’s ever received

What do you do when life gives you lemons? Well, you could make a sour face and complain, or you could look at the situation for what it is and move forward with lemonade.

The latter is what my guest, Sarah Baehr of TheBaehrNecessities.com did when she and her husband discovered they were in over their heads thanks to some poor financial decisions early on in their marriage.

Through a very chaotic year, she discovered that what she was really after was a life of intention. Minimalism and living with less stuff came along as a welcomed byproduct, but wasn’t the first thing Sarah thought she wanted.

Instead, she discovered the secrets of how to simplify her life amidst chaos and she’s helping us do it too.

Sarah reminds us that life can be simple when we just take a minute to press the pause button. I know it may not feel possible at times, but if you can remember to breath and think about the end goal of what you really want your life to look like, you too can see through the chaos and get to the other side.

Big changes are possible and I was thrilled to get to chat with Sarah about her determination to make a change (or 2 or 3) that led to her life of intention on her journey toward minimalism.

Sarah is a wife, a mom of two girls and their beloved pug, as well as an intentional living coach. She is passionate about helping overwhelmed moms cultivate their homes and lives simply, beautifully, and on purpose.

After moving twice and having a second child in less than 12 months, she found there was more to life and motherhood than a packed schedule and possessions. Sarah encourages moms to kick clutter and chaos in order to find more joy in motherhood just as she did.

If you have ever wondered if life could be less chaotic by decluttering, this show is for you.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- How to look at your life with a clear lens

- Sarah’s secret to changing your life right now

- An amazing tip for keeps kids things decluttered

- How to incorporate gratitude in daily life for you and your children

Are you tired of looking around your home and seeing piles of stuff, things to finish, and just clutter that you dread going through?

I get it. I’ve been in your shoes and tried the most popular methods of clearing out the clutter from our home, but there was lots of information that just didn’t fit with our need for things to change fast.

After all, we’re a busy family. As a mom, I have too much going on in a day to take out everything I own and sort through it, like the Konmari Method says I should. I can’t remove all of my furniture and put it back like an interior designer, a la the Cozy Minimalist method. And especially with COVID looming in the air, I do not want to think about dying, like I need to with Swedish Death Cleaning.

So I combined the best tactics of these popular methods - and some fringe decluttering ideas - into the 5 simple steps of the QUICK Decluttering Method. These steps work for ANYONE and can be done at your own pace.

Start small with just one drawer, one shelf, or one room. Or go big and tackle your entire home in a weekend.

Either way, just follow the steps in order and you will banish clutter from your home quicker than you thought possible. :)

I am loving the decluttered feeling of our home and so want that for you too. Give it a try and let me know how it goes!

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- What QUICK Decluttering is and how it works

- Why the QUICK Declutter Method is different from other methods

- The exact steps to make decluttering quicker than ever

- How to make sure clutter never returns

- The best way to start decluttering and why this step is often missed

Is minimalism or intentional living only limited to your home furnishings and clothes closets? Of course not!

The beauty of minimalism (and it’s not just a decorating style with stark white walls) is that it can spill into every area of your life if you allow it. Minimalism is living intentionally and being mindful of the things we let into our lives and homes and as today’s guest reminds us, what we put on our bodies.

I was thrilled to get to chat with Jenny Brereton about clean beauty on the latest episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show because she has such a passion for how to incorporate healthier products into our routines and what clean beauty can do for all of us.

She reminds us that the beauty industry has very little regulation and unlike a lot of the modern world, the USA has not banned many ingredients that are considered harmful in other countries. We need to be our own advocates and use our money to purchase healthier options for our families. The problem is that it can be difficult to know which products to buy. Thankfully this episode gives you a great place to start.

Jenny has always had a passion for her health, the environment, and caring for animals. She loves working with women in helping them feel beautiful and confident.

After learning about the dangers we put on our bodies through our beauty products, it became her mission to educate other women on recognizing the toxins in their products.

If you have ever considered being more intentional with the beauty products you buy or thought about clean beauty, this show is for you.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- What clean beauty means?

- 10 ingredients you should avoid when purchasing beauty products

- Better sun care alternatives that won’t harm the ocean but at just as effective against sun damage

- The #1 Jenny suggests you do to get started when going through your beauty products

- How to simplify your beauty routine to save time and money everyday

Would your family know what to do and have access to the necessary financial and insurance information if something happened to you? Imagine you were in a car accident or caught COVID-19 and ended up in the hospital for a month. Who would take care of your kids? Who would pay the bills? Who would communicate with the insurance companies? And would they know where to get the information they’d need?

If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, you need an Emergency Binder for your household.

With so much uncertainty these days, an Emergency Binder that could help another adult step in and temporarily take over duties of running your home for a short while is a must-have.

But, what does one put in an Emergency Binder? Where do you keep it? How do you keep it safe? And who should you tell about it.

All of these questions are answered and laid out in 8 specific sections of a binder. By the end of the show you will have an amazing blue print laid out and be able to DIY your very own Emergency Binder for your family.

It’s a wonderful way to have peace of mind and know that your family will be okay should you find yourself in an emergency and not able to be there for them physically.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- What an Emergency Binder is

- Why an Emergency Binder is necessary for families

- The 8 specific sections you need to have in your Emergency Binder

Tried decluttering before, but didn’t get the results you wanted? That was the exact spot today’s guest found herself in - even after she decluttered over 2000 items. But, don't despair! There’s good news.

Instead of giving up, she learned she just had to declutter one more place in her home and then it all changed. She finally started feeling lighter and less stressed. Her home became her haven and she finished decluttering each room.

So what made the difference? It all came down to one sentence. Honestly, just a few words made all the difference when it came to clearing out her home to pursue the life she wanted.

And you can do it too!

In this episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show, I chat with declutterer extraordinaire, Karen Burke, about discovering your purpose, positive mindsets, living a life of adventure, and how a challenge can give you the push you need to change your life. This episode is will help you get past your doubts and realize that the life you envision in your head, may be just around the corner.

Karen is a wife, two time boy mom, and former middle school teacher who now works from home as a blogger and course creator. The heart of her work at Slow Motion Mama is to help overwhelmed moms simplify their spaces & style them on a budget. She is dedicated to helping others organize their spaces and find their own unique style so that they can love the home they’re in.

If you have struggled with seeing results with decluttering and are about to throw in the towel, or you just want more direction on how to clear out the clutter, this show is for you.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- How to flip the script when it comes to decluttering. Is it really all about what we take out of our homes?

- The ONE sentence Karen asks herself when decluttering anything that changed everything.

- Why setting a goal and joining a challenge may be just the thing you need to finally declutter your home.

- What Karen suggests you do with expensive items you no longer want that makes it so much easier to let them go.

Every once in a while a new trend comes along in the minimalism space that shakes things up and makes people re-examine their lives. One of the recent newcomers is the idea of Swedish Death Cleaning. Don’t worry. It’s not as morbid as it sounds.

In fact, it could be one of the best ways for sentimental people to declutter their belongings.

At the heart of the trend is the idea that you want to make life easier for your loved ones when you die instead of leaving them with a house filled with crap that you, yourself didn’t really care about.

It’s also a lovely way to pass on things you love to people you love - as long as they are useful and wanted by the recipient.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

• the nuts and bolts of what Swedish Death Cleaning actually is

• how to incorporate this new style of decluttering into your life

• why this may be the best thing you can do for your family

• how Swedish Death Cleaning differs from Functional Minimalism

• simple ways I used death cleaning without even knowing it

Do you struggle with quiet time? Don't worry if you answered yes. This is an area I struggle too.

But, that all changes today. This episode is all about the importance of quiet time, why it is essential to your child’s well-being, and how to implement quiet time in your home without a fight.

Our guest today, shares how she keeps peace and quiet in her home while homeschooling her 5 kids and running a business with her sister. If she can have 2 hours of quiet time everyday in her home, she can show us how to do it too.

Dani Goeppert is a wild and happy mama of five, and married to (as she says) the handsomest of German men. She is originally from Canada but hasn’t lived there in over a decade. After moving to Germany in her early 20s, learning German and having five babies, her family packed up and moved near Kyiv, Ukraine. There they serve together with an international non-profit, and are currently conquering their next language - Russian. She dreams of one day being able to read Dostoevsky in the original.

She is passionate about growing wild happy families, inspiring mamas to step into their callings as co-creators and gives them tools to create more time, boost meaningful productivity and influence their communities with the power of relationships starting at the most important place - home.

And if you struggle with making your home peaceful or being consistent with quiet time, Dani shares all of her tips in her popular Stupid Simple Quiet Time System. I promise, it’s a good one.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- how to give your children toys that will not add junk to your home - this is a great way to satisfy grandparents too!

- what open-ended toys have worked best for her family (even with a large age range of 5 kids)

Tired of the rat race and working so hard to buy ALL THE THINGS? The answer may be as simple as saying no to shopping.

Our guest today, shares her journey from this exact spot. She was determined to live a better life and back at the beginning of 2017 she chose to define her year with simplicity. She never could have imagined how that goal would change her life. Hint: she started in her closet and it ended with her quitting her job (even though she was the breadwinner for her family!).

Brooke is a simple-living blogger, wife, and mom to two daughters. Her motto to “simplify, find more joy, and be intentional with her time” changed her life for the better. She writes about her experience at HappySimpleMom.com where she helps busy moms reclaim all the joys of their motherhood. Brooke believes by simplifying your life you can experience a home that brings you joy and happiness and stop letting the mess weigh you down.

And if you struggle with keeping your home free from clutter, Brooke shares her wildly popular Flat Surface Clutter Rule. I promise, it’s a good one.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- how one simple goal can change your entire home and life

- what to do (and not do) if you are a minimalist and your spouse is a maximalist

- how to stop clutter creep with the Flat Surface Clutter Rule

Have you been struggling to embrace minimalism or simple living because you’re waiting for your “ah-ha moment”? You know, like the ones you have read on countless blogs about how this great epiphany just hit one day? Or a moment when you just could’t take it anymore?

Well, today’s guest will help you realize that you don’t need to wait for a big life change or a crisis to start your journey to a more intentional life. It’s easy to start living more like a minimalist and you can do it today.

You can start by giving everything you own a home.

That’s exactly what Jenna did. And she knows her stuff. As a mom who always thought she lived tiny (and compared to many of us she does), she realized that her home was still messy because as a self-proclaimed “messy person” she struggled with putting things away.

Giving everything she owns a home changed the way Jenna viewed her stuff, let her declutter things that no longer had a place to go, and enables her, her husband, and 3 kids to live comfortably in about 800 square feet.

Jenna Arvidson gives moms permission to live differently. She teaches how to simplify your home and your day so you have time and space for what matters most.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

- what it means to give your items a home

- why it’s incredibly important to give everything you own a home

- how to give your items a place to live

- a new outlook for starting and ending your days that have made a huge impact

- the best minimalism advice Jenna ever received

We’ve been sold this idea that we need a to do list in order to be productive. But, productivity can come at the cost of moving the needle forward in your life if you lose sight of your priorities.

Think about your to do list….

Maybe it’s a list of things you want to get done today. Maybe it’s a list of things you need to do tomorrow. Or if you’re like many people, your to do list is a running list of things you think about and jot down so you don’t forget.

The problem is that the items on a to do list are not prioritized. They keep you busy, but busy is not the same as productive. And worse yet, productive is not the same as meaningful.

That’s why you NEED a Stop Doing List.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

• the truth about to do lists and why they are the end-all-be-all

• how to set priorities for you and your family

• ways to give yourself grace around being perfect

• 5 things you can add to your stop doing list - like TODAY

One of the members in my Wannabe Minimalist Facebook group asked about how to store her stuff in her small home when she has little closet space and no basement. Instead of only replying to her, I thought it was advice we could all learn from. Here’s are some of my best ideas for creative ways to store your stuff when you have no closets.

But, these ideas were not just pulled out of my head. No way! They were tied and tested when I was a property manager and worked closely with top-notch interior designers to model out several small apartments.

I guarantee there are some ideas here that you have NEVER heard before. So jump on in.

This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will help you discover:

• what kind of furniture is best for small homes

• why I think doors are some of the most underutilized space and what to do about it

• creative storage ideas for the kitchen so you can clear off your counters

• how paint can help with your storage dilemma

• and the coolest idea the designers came up for storing extra chairs (hint: I don’t make you wait to the end to find out)

Ever wonder why we are so attached to the things we own?

From a young age, even before we can talk and verbalize our feelings, humans show that they value their things over things that are not theirs. But, as a parent you probably already know this. You’ve experienced teaching (or trying to teach) your child to share.

There are scientific reasons for why you and I feel attached to things, but they do not define who we are. However, as you embark on the path toward minimalism, it can be extremely helpful to learn about the reasons behind why we love our stuff, why we want more, and how to be happy with decluttering like a minimalist.

So join me on the latest episode of The Wannabe Minimalist Show where we look at the science behind materialism and why we love our stuff so much.

It’s the perfect way to end 2019 as we get ready for the New Year (and New DECADE). If you are looking to declutter in 2020, don’t forget to join my private Wannabe Minimalist Group on Facebook. Have you ever thought about minimalism for your family? Not sure it’s something you could do, but still just can’t let the idea go?

I hear you! And, I am here to tell you that everyone’s journey is different. To prove it, I’m sharing our story about how we literally packed our way to minimalism as a family. I can almost guarantee that no one else in the world has my story.

And no one else in the world has your story.

How are you going to write your journey to minimalism?

Our journey started about 6 years ago. I was working from my home office, when I looked down at my then 6 week old daughter who had just dozed off in my lap. In that moment an idea that would change my life hit me like a ton of bricks… since my husband and I were both working from home, we could be anywhere in the world as long as we had a strong internet connection.

What followed that morning was our first stab (and utter failure) at minimalism. We became “those” people who sold everything and set out to travel the world. Unfortunately, it ended faster than it began and we rebounded to a home full of stuff, jobs that stressed us out, and a sever case of mom guilt.

However, that’s not the end our our story. Five years after that failure, we traveled again and experienced 3 major mind shifts that firmly planted us in the minimalist family camp. This episode will help explain more.
