7 Things That Will Boost Your Self Esteem
18:19
Did you know you have THREE different selves? That’s right, THREE!

The first type of self is your ideal self. This is the type of person that you want to become.

The second type of self is your actual self. This is who you really are as a person.

The third type of self is your perceived self. This is how you view yourself or who you think you are.

Studies have shown that our third self that really dictates our lives. How we view ourselves changes how we live our lives and how we interact with the world. But unfortunately, most of us don’t perceive ourselves in a good light.

Here are some shocking stats…

  • 90% of women wish they could change at least one thing about their physical appearance.
  • 81% of 10-12 year-old girls are scared to be considered fat.
  • 1 out of 4 women, in the 16-20 year old women group, suffer from an eating disorder.
  • Only 2% of women consider they are beautiful.

These stats PROVE why it’s so important for us to work on our self esteem. That’s why in this episode of the Embrace Your Real podcast, I’m going to share some simple ways to start boosting your self esteem.

13 Ways to Make Moving Your Body Consistently EASY Part 2
24:39
Welcome back to 13 ways to make moving your body consistently EASY part 2, if you haven’t yet listen to part 1 I highly recommend going back and listening to that episode either before or after this one.

Moving your body consistently can be hard — whether you’re just not motivated or you don’t have the energy, or life just feels way to busy. Whatever the reason may be, I have a BUNCH of ways to help you make it easier.

In part 1, I discussed:

  1. Finding movement you love doing
  2. Creating a schedule.
  3. Treating your workouts like appointments or work meetings.
  4. Having a plan.
  5. Setting yourself up for success.
  6. Having a back up plan

Okay let’s dive in to part 2:

  1. Don’t overcommit

Be realistic about what you can actually do weekly and daily. Don’t set an expectation for yourself to workout 6 days a week for 60 minutes if you haven’t been working out at all.

  1. Be open minded about movement.

Movement isn’t just going to the gym, movement can mean ANYTHING and honoring your body with any kind of movement daily will change your relationship with fitness!

  1. Find a way to hold yourself accountable.

Get an accountability buddy or a workout partner, or ask your significant other or your best friend to help hold you accountable.

  1. Track your progress

Sometimes we can’t see the changes in the mirror every single day and we think we aren’t making any progress when if fact, we are making LOTS of progress. That’s why I think it’s so important to track your progress so you can see that your hard work is in fact paying off.

  1. Track your consistency

See how many days and weeks you can go honoring your body with movement. You’re going to become so motivated to not break your streak!

  1. Set specific and actionable goals for yourself

It’s also hard to stay consistent when you don’t know what you’re working towards. So figure out WHAT you are working towards EXACTLY.

  1. Focus on the process not the results.

If you focus on the results ONLY you’re going to struggle to see results.

4 Important Reminders For When You Feel Like You Aren't Doing Enough
12:43
When it comes to building the body we want, we think we aren’t doing enough. We think that more is better and the more that we do the better results we will see. So for the woman who thinks she isn’t doing enough, I have a few reminders to share with you in this episode of Embrace Your Real.

Four Reminders I talked about:

  1. Just because you’re not seeing results immediately doesn’t mean what you’re doing isn’t working and you need to do “more” or “change things up”.
  2. What other women are doing or did to accomplish the goals you want to achieve is not necessarily the steps you need to follow.
  3. Recognize this self-inflicted pressure and release the valve.
  4. Realize that more is not always better.

How to Keep Yourself Challenged When You Don't Have Access to Other Weights
20:00

This episode is for the woman who works out at home, doesn’t have a bunch of dumbbells and is looking to get a greater challenge from her workout. Because here’s the thing: working out regularly is great…but even if you’re working out consistently your body will eventually adapt to the weights you’re using, thus not increase the demands you are placing on your body which can and will cause a plateau in your results. If investing in heavier weights right away is not in the cards, there are ways to structure your workouts to increase the demands without more weights.

Things I talked about:

  1. Implement to failure
  2. Superset movements
  3. Circuit training
  4. Drop sets
  5. Pyramid sets
  6. Cardio between sets
  7. Add bands
  8. Change the tempo
  9. Shorter rest between sets

7 Steps to Changing Your Life in One Year
17:26
How do you make a drastic change in your life? How do you get from point a to point b when you feel like there are a million miles between where you are now and where you want to be? How do you even get started? What do you even do?!

I get it, when you want to create a huge change in your life, it can feel daunting, scary, and overwhelming. That’s why I’ve put together this 7-step guide to help you navigate these large change you want to make in your life.

Remember, this is 7 steps to changing your life in one year and not one month or one week or one day because REAL changes take time and we need to be realistic about how long it actually takes and we need to realize that consistency is so important. If you stick with something consistently for ONE YEAR, you WILL see change and that change WILL last. It is inevitable. So don’t give up after one month, that’s not enough time, don’t give up after 3 months or 5 months, because you’re still going to need more time. Focus more on consistency and less on results and one year from now you will be amazed by what you’re accomplished.

7 Reasons Why Macro Counting “Doesn’t Work” for You
29:44
Marco counting is what healed my relationship with food. It opened me up to this whole new word where I didn’t need to deprive myself of food. I no longer needed to eat as little as possible, avoid my favorite foods, and completely cut food groups out of my daily food intake.

I finally stopped feeling confused about WHAT I should and shouldn’t be eating, or confused about HOW MUCH I should and shouldn’t be eating. I could sit down each day and properly fuel my body without the stress, without wondering if I was “doing it right”, without feeling guilty or having to punish myself. If you can relate to any of these feelings, then I highly suggest trying macro counting.

But here’s the thing: I talk to so many woman who have a poor relationship with food and are constantly dieting and they say, “Macro counting didn’t work” for them. Whenever I hear someone say that, I know there needs to be more to the story than the mere fact that macro counting didn’t work. So if you, too, feel like macro counting isn’t working for you or you are struggling with it now, let me share a few reasons WHY and solutions for each.

What I discuss:
  1. You’re not being honest with yourself about what you’re eating and how much you are eating.
  2. You’re not being consistent enough.
  3. You’re not giving it enough time.
  4. Your macro goals aren’t accurate.
  5. You deprive yourself too much.
  6. You’re not cycling through the four phases of macro counting.
  7. You don’t listen to your body.

6 Rules for Determining The Weight to Use in Your Workouts
26:02
How much weight should you be lifting?! That is the ultimate question, am I right? Seriously, this is one of the most frequently asked questions I get and that’s why I’ve decided to dedicate an entire podcast episode to the topic. Not only am I going to explain how much weight you should begin with if you are new to working out, but explain how to know when you need to move up in weight, how you should constantly be monitoring if you need to move up in weight, why it’s important to continue lifting heavier weights, and how to know if you are lifting TOO heavy of weights.

Things I discuss:

Rule #1: Start light and work your way up
Rule #2: You should never compromise form.
Rule #3: The goal is to be able to perform 70-90% of the movements with ease
Rule #4: If you can’t perform 8 reps, you’re trying to lift too heavy. If you can easily perform 12 reps, you’re lifting too light
Rule #5: Use progressive overload
Rule #6: You need to get uncomfortable

Instructor Led Workouts vs. Go-At-Your-Own-Pace Workouts
31:58
In this episode of Embrace Your Real, we are going to chat about instructor-led workouts vs. “go at your own pace” workouts. We are going to dive into the pro’s and con’s of each to help you decide which option makes the most sense for you.

Instructor-led workouts could be riding your peloton, going to Orange Theory, or turning on a Beach Body workout like Insanity or doing P90X on your laptop, just any workout where an instructor is leading you through the workout and you are following their lead through the entire workout.

On the flip side, a “go at your own pace” workout is one where you have a plan for what the workout is, and you may even have video tutorials of what the exercises are, but you perform the workout at your own speed and are not following along to a video.

Both have their pro’s and con’s, it just depends on what makes most sense for you and that’s what we are going to figure out in this episode. By the end, you will have a clear idea of what workout style best fits your needs.

8 Things I Do to Make Nourishing My Body a Lifestyle
32:38
I have been counting my macros for almost a decade. And since I’ve stopped doing competitions and found a new normal with my body, my body size and shape haven’t fluctuated all that much. But here’s the thing: I have made nourishing my body a lifestyle and because of that my weight is not continuously going up and down. I don’t have to “get back on track” the same way I know other woman need to. But, the difference is that many women are dieting and not making nourishment a lifestyle.

So many women ask me how I have the willpower to stay on track all the time. But here’s the thing: I don’t need willpower. Seriously, I don’t need one ounce of willpower and in this episode Im going to explain what I do to essentially “stay on track” without needing willpower through making nourishing your body a lifestyle.

What I discuss:
  1. I know what my body needs.
  2. There is no scarcity in my “diet”
  3. I “budget” my food.
  4. I know when to chose memories over macros and vice versa to keep my life balanced.
  5. I pay attention to how food makes me feel.
  6. I prioritize cooking delicious meals.
  7. I honor my body with movement daily
  8. I focus on consistency over perfection.

My Weekly Workout Split
23:37
In this episode of Embrace Your Real, we are going to chat through what my weekly workout split looks like and why I have chosen this split for optimal results.

A workout split is how you divide up your workouts throughout the week either by body region, movement, specific body part, or by lift. This divide-and-conquer approach to exercise allows you to focus your efforts in a way that optimizes results. All of this is also science-backed and a split that I have been doing for years. It’s also the workout split I use with my Movement with Julie ladies.

My Ultimate Reset Guide
16:37
It’s not simple to ALWAYS stick to your routine. Plus, when you got out of your routine, sometimes it’s hard to get back with it, right? Even though you know how much better you will feel if you move your body or nourish your body, actually doing it always seems to be another story!

When I feel myself starting to get off track a bit, or feeling not so motivated, I have a little reset protocol I like to follow that makes getting back into the swing of things super easy. In this episode of the Embrace Your Real podcast, I walk you through this protocol, step by step, and explain why it’s so powerful!

What I discuss:

  1. Honor your body with movement, it doesn’t have to be a workout, it just needs to be movement of any kind.
  2. Focus on exclusively tracking your protein intake consistently.
  3. Hydrate! You need to flush out those toxins and reset your hunger hormones.
  4. Get at least 8 hours of sleep each night for at least two weeks. This will give you the energy to feel like yourself again and help you get control of your cravings.
  5. Plan out and visualize. Your brain can’t differentiate between what you vividly imagine and your reality. So visualize yourself as your healthiest self and your brain will start to align your actions with this visualization.

What I discuss:

  1. Instead of skipping movement to go chill with friends, plan workout dates with your friends.
  2. Realize that your movement doesn’t always need to be standard workouts.
  3. Schedule your movement around the heat.
  4. Do yourself a favor and just have a plan to follow. It’s going to make your life so much easier
  5. Lower the commitment if that means you’ll stay more consistent.

5 Steps to Beginning Your Macro Counting Journey
35:56
Newsflash: Macro counting is NOT a one-size-fits all approach to nutrition. If you took two people with the same height, weight, and body fat percentage, their required calories could still vary by several hundred or even a thousand calories per day.

What does this mean for you? You can’t just copy and paste someone else’s macros and use them as your own. Plus, there are different phases of macro counting and depending on your goals, you need to start in a certain phase. So that leaves us with the pressing question: Where do we begin?

That is exactly what I discuss in this episode of the Embrace Your Real Podcast. Get ready for simple 5-step guide to starting your macro counting journey!

What I discuss:

Step #1: Track your food without any macro goal.
Step #2: Calculate your maintenance macros.
Step #3: Figure out which phase you need to enter into and COMMIT to it.
Step #4: Set yourself up for success.
Step #5: Be Patient with yourself and give yourself grace!

A Breakdown of Macronutrients and Why You Need Them
29:28
I’m so tired of hearing people go on low carb diets, high fat diets, and even low fat diets. I’m so tired of people neglecting their protein intake. I’m also tired of seeing people neglecting a macronutrient thinking it’s going to be the BEST way to see results.

Most people do not understand the importance of consuming all three macronutrients – protein, fat, and carbs. They also don’t understand the damage they are doing to both their health and their results by neglecting one of the three.

That’s why in this episode of the Embrace Your Real podcast, I give you a breakdown of each macronutrient, what they are, the benefits of each, and what happens when you don’t consume enough of each, helping you understand why you need to nourish your body with enough of each macronutrient daily!

5 Issues with Calorie Counting You Need to Know About
16:55
I have a question for you...

When you’re at the grocery store popping things into your cart, do you turn the box or bag or package over to the nutritional facts, look at the calories per serving ONLY and then decide whether or not to toss it into your cart?

Do you add up the number of calories you eat a day without paying attention to the amount of protein, fat, and carbs you eat?

Is it your goal to eat as few calories a day? And do you think that eating less will help you finally reach your goals?

4 Ways To Turn To God When You’re Feeling Insecure About Your Body
24:20
We do not need to deal with our body image insecurities alone. We have God to turn toward, at any moment of any day.

But how do we do that? How exactly do we use our faith to help us through our body image insecurities?

Today, I want to dive into 4 very practical things you can do when feeling insecure about your body.

First things first, if you are starting a journey of trying to make peace with your reflection, I want to encourage you to put this scripture on your mirror, and truly look at it every time you see yourself.

The writer of Psalm 45 directs our attention to the mirror of TRUTH.

“Listen, Daughter and pay careful attention: Forget your people and your father's house. Let the King be ENTHRALLED by your beauty; honor him, for He is your Lord.” That's verses 10 and 11.

When the psalmist speaks directly to the bride and says; “listen daughter, and pay careful attention” he’s saying “Stop listening to the lies and LISTEN to the truth! AKA Stop looking at the distorted mirror of the culture and look into the eyes of your KING!!”

The King of Kings is ENTHRALLED by your beauty too. He is so enthralled with you that He gave up His throne in Heaven to come into our broken world and win you over to Himself.

Remember this, as we constantly look in the mirror of truth, we’ll see our sacred reflections better clearly, and we’ll reflect the beauty of Christ to others more consistently.

There are so many influencers out there on Instagram advising on how to do this, but none of it feels practical. In theory,  it sounds great, but in practice, it’s so hard or you have no idea how to actually do it.

So, in this episode, I want to share 7 things you can do that are actually REALISTIC and PRACTICAL in your daily life. And when you do these 7 things consistently, you will transform the relationship you have with food.

However, I know these seven things are SO MUCH EASIER when you know how much food your body actually needs a day.

If you know you need X amount of protein, X amount of Carbs, and X amount of fats, filling in the blanks with the food that actually sounds good is simple to do. You are eating what you want, while still nourishing your body with the macros it needs and you are still on track for building the body you want.

That's why I have put together a Macro Counting Made Simple Online Academy where I give you a step-by-step guide on how to transform your relationship with food through macro counting. I also calculate your macros for you and show you HOW I calculated them so you are empowered to do it on your own.

If you’re ready, head over to macrocountingmadesimple.com, and let’s get started, sister!!

What the Heck are Secondary Protein Sources + Why Should You Eat Them?
14:20

Did you know I am aim to eat 140-150 grams of protein a day?

I know that may seem like a lot for you, right?

Protein seems to be the hardest macronutrient (amongst carbs and fats) to consume enough of daily. Carbs and fat are easy, they are in abundance in our diet, and they are also the tastiest and foods we crave most.

But no one ever has protein cravings. If they do, it’s rare. It’s not like you’re on your period and thinking "Oh my gosh I’m seriously craving chicken right now" the way that we do with carbs and fats.

Now, I’m not saying everyone needs to be consuming 140-150 grams of protein every single day. This is just how much my body needs. You need to figure out what your body needs. And once you do figure it out, you need to figure out how to hit that goal.

I know it seems like a daunting goal and maybe even impossible to do daily, and that’s why I want to introduce you to secondary protein sources.

P.S.: I know that counting macros can seem daunting, but I've made it extremely simple with my Macro Counting Made Simple Online Academy.

Basically, I calculate your macros for you, educate you on how I calculated them, and then give you all the tools you need to continue macro counting. You can get access now by heading over to macrocountingmadesimle.com.

How to Use Hand Portions to Reach Your Macro Goals
16:22

I get it, counting your macros every single day can get exhausting...

ESPECIALLY when you are taking the time to measure and weigh everything.

For some people, it doesn’t bother them. But for others, it feels like a huge bother. And if it does feel like a huge bother for you, then it’s probably not something you will stick to doing long term.

And you know how I feel about developing habits…I only want you to develop habits that not only you can stick to long term, but you actually enjoy sticking to long term.

With that being said, whether you like measuring and weighing your food or not, the amount of each macronutrient (carbs, fat, protein) you are eating daily matters a lot if you are striving to build the body you want.

So if you don’t like counting your macros, how can you see results with macro counting without actually counting your macros?

Seems impossible right?

Not quite!

There is a tactic I want to teach you that will make your life so much easier. Are you ready?!

P.S: There’s so much information out there on how to eat and how to fuel your body that it can be hard to know where to start. That’s why I created this free ebook – to teach you everything you need to know about macros and how they impact your health. In this free tool, I show you step-by-step how to calculate your own macros, so you can feel empowered and in control of your own health. Click here now to download my free ebook!

5 Things We Need to Normalize
14:08

As women, we have some unhealthy habits, beliefs, and behaviors that have been normalized and I think we need to normalize the OPPOSITE if we want to build a healthy and happy relationship with ourselves and others around us. And in this episode, I share what these five things are.

If you see someone who ISN’T normalizing the five things, let’s help them change their outlook by sending them this episode! The more women we get to listen to this episode, the more success we will have in normalizing these five things. So share it with your friends and family who need to hear this! And if you loved this episode, I know you will also love…

Episode 69: Unlearning Society's Expectations for Us

In this episode, I explore why we think we need to become skinnier. Or more productive. Or less sensitive. Or more outgoing. Or whatever it is we think we need to become. Why do we think we need to become less of what we are and become more of what we are not?

⁣Unfortunately, the society we live in has conditioned us to believe we should be a certain way, should look a certain way, and should live a certain way…and we believe it!

After you've listened to this episode, I challenge you to question why you are doing what you are doing. Are you doing it for yourself or for society?

9 Things I Wish I Could Tell My Younger Self
16:55

Most of you know my story, but I had an unhealthy relationship with my body for almost a decade…A DECADE.

That's 10 years of hating my body and punishing my body. 10 years of lacking confidence and drowning in unhappiness and defining myself by what my body looks like. YIKES.

What I would give to go back and talk to my younger self and tell her what I know now...

What I would give to save her from the years of misery and struggle and punishment and hopelessness...

In this episode, I share the things that I wish I could tell my younger self in hopes of helping you avoid making the same mistakes my younger self made and break the beliefs that my younger self believed wholeheartedly.

And if you loved this episode, then I know you will also love…

Episode 87: Real Talk on Hating Your Body

In the hardest times, I destroyed my body for a peace of mind I never got. I punished my body, I hated my body, and I destroyed my body.

But for what? ⁣Why did I do all of that? To still feel dissatisfied? To still hate my body? To still wish it were different?⁣

Because let’s be real, that’s how we still feel, no matter the progress we’ve made. We never have any peace of mind.

So how do we find the peace of mind we’re searching for? That’s exactly what I dive into in this 5-minute bonus episode of Embrace Your Real!

My Thoughts On Body Acceptance
14:40

What does it look like to actually love your body?

I think many of us believe it’s impossible to accept our bodies for what they are because we don’t actually know what body acceptance actually looks like. That’s why in this episode of Embrace Your Real, I outline what it actually is.

But first, here’s what body acceptance is NOT:

It’s not saying you’re in love with the way your body looks.
It’s not saying you love every part of your body.
It’s not saying there aren’t parts of your body you don’t want to change.
It’s not saying you need to be positive about your body at all times.

We are human and no matter how hard you try, it’s not going to be authentic for you to always be positive about the way your body looks.

So, if this isn’t what body acceptance means, what does it actually mean?!

Well, sister, you will have to tune in to find out!

And if you’re struggling to see your TRUE Beauty, I encourage you to get the book that I mention in this episode - Beauty Begins by Chris and Megan Shook. You can find it here.

If you loved this episode + want to hear more on this topic, I highly recommend tuning into Episode 45: Body Neutrality vs. Body Positivity: Why You Need to Know the Difference.

9 Signs You Have an Unhealthy Relationship with Food
20:59
I know from experience when I had the most unhealthy relationship with food I’ve ever had, I actually didn’t realize I had an unhealthy relationship with food at all.

I thought what I was doing was healthy and how I felt was normal.

It wasn’t until I got onto the other side that I finally was able to realize just how unhealthy my relationship with food actually was.

My boyfriend at the time, which is now my husband, pointed it out to me. But that was years into struggling with this unhealthy relationship. While I’m so glad that he did point it out, I could have had someone point it out sooner and avoided years of misery.

That’s why in this episode of Embrace Your Real, I want to walk you through what an unhealthy relationship looks like and the habits and feelings attached to it, so you can get a better idea as to whether or not your relationship with food is healthy.

If you realize you have an unhealthy relationship with food after listening to this episode, let me share what helped me overcome every single one of these behaviors…

It's macro counting.

Once I learned how much my body actually needed daily and that it was okay to eat less-than-healthy foods if I made them fit into my macros, my relationship with food completely changed. I no longer thought about food all the time, I didn’t let food control me, and I definitely didn’t let it make me feel guilty.

That being said, I want to personally invite you to join the MCMS Online Academy Community.

You don’t have to be a slave to the gym and eat boring food anymore!

Macro Counting Made Simple is an online program that will teach you how to fuel your body with macros so you can finally achieve the body you want – without all the restrictions.

Are Your Priorities Actually Your Priorities?
09:37

Are your priorities actually your priorities? I know for myself, I oftentimes think something is a priority, yet when I stop and audit my life, I realize I’m not actually prioritizing it. I also know that when I do prioritize it, I feel SO MUCH BETTER.

So, let’s chat about priorities and find out whether our not we are actually prioritizing them AND what we can do to start making them more of a priority.

To start, I need you to look at your life and what you deem your priorities to be. If someone asked you what you prioritize most in your life, how would you answer that?

From there, the easiest way to see whether or not you are actually prioritizing your priorities is by monitoring your time. Because the truth is, how we spend our time is based on what we prioritize, whether we like it nor not.

So, what do you think your priorities are?

How are you spending your time?

Do the two align?

If not, ask yourself if your priorities are actually your priorities. If they are, then ask yourself how you can start making time for them.

7 Nutrition Habits Holding You Back
24:42
Nutrition is arguably more important than fitness when working to build the body you want. We have all heard the sayings, “you can’t out-train a bad diet” and “abs are made in the kitchen”, right? As cliche as these says may be, they hold so much truth. If we fail to get our nutrition dialed, we will struggle to build the body we want, plain and simple, sister!

Over the past decade, I have noticed 7 habits many women think are helping them on their fitness journey, when in fact, they are doing more harm than good. So, if you have found yourself on fitness plateau and can’t figure out why you aren’t seeing more results, ask yourself if you need to break one of the 7 habits I share in this episode of Embrace You Real. Be sure to let me know which habits you need to break over on the ‘gram by sending a  DM to @embraceyourreal, or tagging the podcast in your IG stories!

3 Things About Life I Think You Need to Hear Today
11:08

Today, I have a few random thoughts about life that I want to share. I truly believe that embracing your real is directly correlated to living a healthy AND happy life... This is why I want to continue to share nuggets about life with you to help you embrace your real.

The first thing about life I thought you needed to hear today is that happiness is not the absence of problems, it is your ability to deal with problems. The truth is, we will always have problems, it is a part of life. If we are constantly waiting for our troubles to disappear, we will always be waiting to be happy.

The second thing I wanted to share with you is that uncertainty is where you find opportunities. Life is full of uncertainty. Literally, EVERYTHING in life is uncertain. That's why we need to learn to let go of our attachments to things and outcomes.

Lastly, you don’t need to “get back” to where you were. What you need is to “step forward” into what you are now. Embrace who you are NOW and strive to step forward into all that you can be daily. Let the past be the past, learn from it, appreciate it, but don’t try to go back. Forward is the way.

Capeesh?!

5 Swaps for the Woman Who Struggles with Comparison
22:46
Who doesn’t struggle with comparing themselves to others? From my years of experience, I know it’s more women than not. I believe it's our natural response when we see someone who has what we wish we had, but I also believe it doesn’t have to be our natural response.

We can rewire our brains to look at comparison in a different light. We can learn to look at the things we used to compare ourselves to and instead use it as an opportunity for growth. And in this episode, I’m going to show you how to do this with 5 swaps. Literally, I am going to give you five things you can swap your feelings of jealousy and envy with the next time you find yourself playing the comparison game. Are you ready?!

If you loved this episode, you will also love Episode 98: My #1 Advice for Overcoming Comparison

In this episode, I chat about how a lot of our comparison stems from us not actually knowing what "success" and “happiness” means to us. We look at others being happy so we think that’s what we need to be happy and we won’t be happy until we have that, too. And the same is true for success.

But do we REALLY know if what they have will make us happy? And does success mean the same thing to us as it does to them? Find out more by tuning in now!

Water 101: Why I Prioritize 100 Ounces Daily and I Think You Should Too
13:15

You know I’m a HUGE believer in honoring my body daily through movement, mindset, and macros. But one thing I haven’t talked a lot about in the past and have been highlighting more recently on Instagram is HYDRATION.

I truly believe that hydration is just as important as movement and nourishment. That’s why in this episode of the Embrace Your Real podcast, I share with you 7 reasons why I prioritize drinking AT LEAST 100 ounces of water a day.

And I know what you're thinking...

Julie, HOW can I drink 100 ounces of water daily?!

Here is what I recommend you do...

One of the easiest ways to drink 100 ounces of water daily is to use a super large water bottle. Then, you must know how many times you need to refill that water bottle each day to reach your hydration goal.

From there, figure out by what time of the day you need to drink X amount of water. For example, I like to aim to drink 50 ounces by 11:00 AM. That way, I don’t get stuck drinking all my water at night trying to make up for my lack of hydration throughout my day.

If you want to learn more tips and tricks for building the body you want, I have already released an episode that gives you a step-by-step guide!

Carbohydrates 101: Why I Love Carbs And Why I Think You Should Too
24:26
DO NOT FEAR CARBS. DO NOT FEAR CARBS. DO. NOT. FEAR. CARBS. If you do fear carbs this episode is for you, and if you don’t fear carbs, this episode is also for you.

Here's the truth: You don’t need to fear them, you just need to be mindful of how much you are eating them.

My goal by the end of the episiode is for you to have a clear understanding of why it’s important to eat carbs and also why it’s important to eat them in the right amounts.

So, let me ask you this…Do you know how many carbs your body needs?!

Copying how many carbs someone else is eating gives you an inaccurate number.

Googling it gives you an inaccurate number.

GUESSING gives you an inaccurate number.

So if the answer is NO, and you do not know the REAL number you should be eating…

Real Talk on Building Confidence in 2022
18:58
The other day girl asked me on a Q&A “How did you become so confident” and quite frankly I told her that for years and years, I would try to read other thoughts from “guru’s” on confidence and I always found myself in the same place, hating my body, hating myself and never feeling like enough.

Until I came to the realization: I, myself am not enough, I never have been enough and never will never be enough, but God…God is enough, He always was, always will be and that’s why I and you listening can live in confidence.

I saw this quote the other day, and couldn’t agree more with it: “Confidence comes when God’s thoughts about yourself become the ONLY ones that matter.”

I wanted to share that first because although practical advice that I am about to share with you can be helpful, but understanding the profound truth that ultimate and lasting confidence comes from God is the most important!

Jeremiah 17:7 says “but blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who’s confidence is in Him”

Again this message here is that we don’t need to stress so much about our own weaknesses. We don’t have to be the smartest, or most successfull or most productive or the “most” anything…

Our job is to do our best and trust that the Lord will work though that.

With that being stated first, tune into this episode for some other reminders I wanted to share with you.

P.S: If you are wanting to take steps towards honoring your body this year, I want to personally invite you to my 4-Week Honor Your Body Challenge that starts on Monday January 17th!

5 Steps to Aligning Your Actions with Your Goals
25:57
Okay sister, I have a serious question to ask you: What goals are you trying to reach? AND how’s it going trying to reach them? How long have you been working towards this goal?

So many of us say we want to reach certain goals, yet our actions don’t align with the goals we want to reach.

We say we want to “lose weight” but continue to indulge in our old habits.

We say we want to work out more but we continue to skip our workouts time and time again.

We say we want to achieve this, or become that, but all we are dong is saying it, and we aren’t actually doing what we need to do to get there.

So how do we combat this? How do we actually align our actions with our goals? That’s what I’m going to dive into today with you in this episode of Embrace Your Real.

7 Things I Learned From Building More Muscle
15:38

I used to have an obsession with being skinny no matter what it took. I would go to the extremes to become skinnier and skinner –  sacrificing my health, my happiness, my relationships, experiences, all the things.

Thankfully, I met my husband, then boyfriend, who woke me up to what I was doing and how I was living. He showed me that in fact I DON’T need to be skinnier and I DON’T need to sacrifice all the above. Although, I’ll be honest, breaking my toxic habits and breaking free from my belief that I needed to be skinnier was HARD. I cannot explain to you just how hard it was. It was a long journey going from obsessing about being skinnier to properly nourishing my body, to honoring my body, and eventually to building muscle.

On my journey to learning to love the muscle I built, I came out with so many lessons learned. And in this episode of Embrace Your Real, I share 7 of them with you in hopes of making your journey a bit smoother and a bit more enjoyable, and hopefully help you get to the other side much quicker.

5 Thoughts on Overcoming Your Fear of Failure
16:20

Recently I asked you all on Instagram what your greatest obstacle is when it comes to working towards your goals. And there was a large majority of you that shared how afraid you were of failing.

This REALLY got me thinking because to be honest, I was quite surprised by this answer. So I thought I would put together a podcast episode address this specific obstacle to help you overcome your fear of failing. I’m going to use it in the sense of using your health and fitness goals, although the same mindset shifts can be applied to ANY aspect of your life. Here’s a recap of the 5 thoughts on failing I want to share with you…

  1. We have a tendency to focus on everything that can go wrong instead of focusing on everything that could go right.

  2. The worse you can do is end up back where you are now.

  3. Failing is not the opposite of success, it is a part of success.

  4. There is no such thing as failure, there are only results.

  5. Struggling and failing is not the same.

Why It’s Okay to Want to Change Your Body
07:08

In this episode, I’m going to bring you so REAL TALK.

I’m SO happy that more and more people are speaking up about embracing our bodies for exactly what they are. More and more people are becoming advocates for beauty at any size, and I’m so appreciative of that.

But, I think many of these people make us feel shameful for wanting to change our bodies. I feel like more and more I am seeing people sharing that if you “change” your body or have “goals” then you aren’t “loving” your body.

I’m here to say I completely disagree with this. ⁣It honestly couldn’t be more from the truth in my opinion. ⁣⁣ I don’t believe there is anything inherently wrong with wanting to change your body and that’s exactly what I want to chat about in this episode of Embrace Your Real.

Should you not be drinking alcohol if you have health and fitness goals?

Is drinking alcohol going to undo the hard work that you’ve put in?

The answer to all of these questions is NO. But with that being said, drinking alcohol freely WILL most likely hinder your goals. Not because it’s alcohol per say, but because eating and drinking anything freely WILL hinder your goals.

That’s why in this episode of Embrace Your Real, I’m going to teach you how to calculate alcohol macros so you can have a drink when you want to have a drink without feeling guilty, having FOMO, or punishing yourself later for it.

Self Love: The #1 Thing That Transformed My Mindset
08:04

I know that self-love can be really difficult. Like… how fluffy is the idea that we should “love ourselves more” ??

Sure it’s a fluffy idea, but at the same time, when we lack self-love, it’s way too easy for us to be trapped in this negative mindset and negative thought patterns that are simply a disservice to our life and hold us back in so many different areas.

I’ll give you some real talk: I lived most of my life NOT loving myself. I had absolutely no idea what it would even FEEL like love myself. That concept was just so foreign to me.

I know so many of you can relate to this and that’s why in this episode of Embrace Your Real, I’m going to share the most influential thing that has transformed your mindset and helped me to actually cultivate SELF LOVE.

7 Ways to Become More Self Aware
26:04

One of the number one questions I get asked is how am I so confident! And to be honest with you, confidence has been something I have been working on for a very, very long time, but I actually didn’t work on being MORE confident, I worked on being MORE self-aware.

Why?

Because the more you know and understand yourself and the more grounded and rooted you feel within yourself, the less validation you’ll secure, the less insecure you’ll feel, and the less unsure of yourself you’ll be.

So how do you practice self-awareness?

I have ten questions I asked myself to help me build that awareness. I want you to press pause on this episode, take out a pen and paper, or the notes app on your phone, and write done the following 12 questions that I am going to share with you in this episode.

I’ll be honest, I used to be so scared of eating enough protein. I thought the more protein I ate, the bulkier I would become.

My #1 Advice for Overcoming Comparison
09:43
Let's be real, who DOESN'T struggle with comparing themselves to others? I believe it's our natural response, but I also believe it robs us of our happiness.

We look at other people's lives and think they have more, they are more successful, they make more money, they are happier, they are in better shape, and the list goes on and on.

But here’s the truth….most of our comparison stems from us not actually knowing what "success" and “ happiness” means to us. We look at others being happy so we think that’s what we need to be happy and we won’t be happy until we have that, too. And the same is true for success.

But do we REALLY know if what they have will make us happy? And does success mean the same thing to us as it does to them?

I know it can seem impossible for you to stop comparing yourself to others but I promise, there is a way to break-free and I’m about to share how in this episode!

5 Steps to Finding your “Why”
28:10
Every goal you make has three layers to it: What the goal is you want to reach, how you’re going to reach that goal, and why you want to reach that goal.

Knowing what goal you want to reach is generally the simplest for you to determine. Figuring out how you’re going to reach the goal can oftentimes be a battle. But what really holds you back from reaching your goal is never knowing why you actually want to reach it.

The reason behind what is causing you to always “start again on Monday”, and the reason you fall into these endless cycles of starting and stopping on your fitness journey, is because you don’t know why you’re doing what you’re doing. You can definitely reach any goal without having a “why”. But when you do, you’ll find yourself feeling completely empty on the inside. That’s why in this episode of Embrace Your Real, I share five simple steps on how to find your “why”.

What Would You Do If You Loved Yourself More?
13:38
If you loved yourself, how would your life be different? What would you do differently? Because let’s be real…most often, our lack of self-love dictates the decisions we make. We act in a certain way because we don’t love ourselves more. We don’t do certain things because we don’t love ourselves more. And we do DO certain things because we don’t love ourselves more.

Ultimately, the course of our life can completely change due to the simple fact we don’t love ourselves more. We may miss out on the greatest memories we could have ever created because we “have to go to the gym” or we don’t chase amazing opportunities because we don’t believe we are good enough. If we loved ourselves, our lives could be drastically different… and most likely for the better. So let’s talk about it!

And after we do whatever it was that made us feel this way, we say, “Never again!” And in that moment, we think we learned our lesson and that we actually WON’T ever do it again.

But then next time comes and we do it again. We say never again…AGAIN…yet we continue to repeat the cycle over and over again. Regardless of whatever that thing is and how that thing is making us feel, we KEEP DOING IT.

WHY?!

That’s exactly what I want to dive into today in this 5-Minute Bonus Episode of Embrace Your Real. And I want to talk to you about what you need to do to ensure you actually NEVER do it again….for real this time.

11 Ways to Avoid Overeating this Holiday Season
31:13
With the holiday season officially here, I am all about educating, encouraging, and empowering you on how to enjoy your favorite holiday treats while still working towards your goals. Because I know for many of us, our number one struggle isn’t getting ourselves to workout, it’s getting ourselves to make better nutrition choices and the holidays only magnify the struggle.

We don’t believe in ourselves and our ability to control ourselves at holiday parties, so we just give in to all the temptations and try to "make it through the holiday season alive.” Ya feel me? Either we give in to the temptation or we restrict ourselves throughout the holidays. Regardless of which one you are, both can lead to anxiety, depression and cycles of under-eating/overeating.

The holidays are supposed to be the happiest time of the year, and none of that sounds happy to me!

I’m excited to tell you it’s possible to enjoy your favorite treats and continue working toward your goals. You don’t have to compromise one for the other–you can have both. You don’t need to feel guilt, regret, anxiety, depression, or straight-up gross anymore because in this episode, I share 11 tips on how to succeed this holiday season!

5 Truths About Low Carb Diets
20:29
Do you think that eating lower carbs is the answer to helping you reach your health and fitness goals? If you answered yes, I used to be right there with you.

I used to be obsessed with eating a low-carb diet. I’ll never forget back in college, I was sitting in class and my professor asked us to take a piece of paper out to write some notes down. My brain was so foggy I couldn't even remember where my backpack was and it was literally sitting right beside me! My brain didn’t even have enough fuel to find something that was sitting right next to me. This was the moment I knew I needed to question my low-carb diet approach.

Since then I have learned a lot and that’s why I want to share 5 truths about low carb diets. I know what I’m about to share with you will completely change your perspective on carbs. Are you ready?!
