Description

Do you ever say, "I'm never drinking again!", but then you drink again? There are many reasons why this happens, and none of them are that we're weak-willed losers. Gill was a daily drinker who had it all together. She had a good marriage and a job as a biochemist. On the outside her drinking appeared to not be that bad, but on the inside she suffered with massive anxiety and suicidal thoughts. Pushed to her breaking point, she accepted she is not someone who can ever drink. With a BS in Chemistry and a MS in Biology she set out on a quest to understand why she developed a drinking problem and other people don't. In the Sober Powered Podcast, you'll learn why it's so hard to stop drinking and why alcohol causes your personal brand of misery.

E28: Is it a Bad Habit or a Problem?
947

Gill discusses bad habits versus problems.  It’s hard to accept that our drinking is a problem, so many of us will claim it’s a bad habit and just needs to be replaced with something else.  She explains what habits are, how they’re formed, and the brain structures involved.  She contrasts this with what we’ve learned about addiction to show you the difference between a bad habit and a problem, and explain why we can’t replace alcohol with anything else.   You'll learn a bit about her bad habits too!

This episode is marked explicit because I revisit some details from episode 4: let's talk about sex
