Being Well Known is Not Enough - Become the Leading Authority
36:12

This is the "history and storytelling" to increase your authority episode. Matt Gordon illustrates how valuable history serves as a connecting tool when we share the fun, personable social currency bits to connect people. He also describes how President Abraham Lincoln's candidacy and the eventual win were fraught with chaos and unrest. He further mentions events such as John Brown's revolution, the abolitionist movements, division between the political parties, and speaks openly of Lincoln's election. Matt Gordon pointed out that an observant person could look at the history of Lincoln's election and presidency and draw some parallels to our current national and social climate.

Being aware of our societal climate is also an essential aspect of marketing. Edward Bernays, a nephew to Sigmund Freud and "the father of public relations," wrote the book Propaganda (1928) and brought awareness that by tying products or objects to ideas, people's behavior could be altered.

In This Week's Show

Tiffany Youngren and Josh Tapp talk about finding success across any sector through connecting and working with others through joint-venture collaborations. Podcasts: Your Platform to Robust Marketing Success with Lorraine Ball
29:09

Tiffany interviews Lorraine Ball, with 10+ years of experience at Indiana digital marketing agency Roundpeg, to discuss how casting off the shackles of corporate America led to over five hundred episodes and thousands of pages of online content. Lorraine is a bonafide pioneer of podcasts, starting off recording simple conversations with friends in the late nineties before building an empire full of conversations with other business experts, entrepreneurs and authors.

From Middle East to Marketing

After graduating college, Lorraine utilized her ability to speak Hebrew to teach English to young children in Israel before moving back to the US, starting a corporate career, then moving on to work at digital marketing agency, Roundpeg, in Indiana. At Roundpeg, she built a range of smart strategies in digital marketing for businesses looking to use the internet to grow. She humbly admits to being an early day pioneer in the world of podcasts.

One of these strategies manifested in “More Than a Few Words”, Lorraine’s stop and chat podcast which has been running for over a decade. Episode formats range from short-form to 30-minute plus live episodes, incorporating call-ins and live Twitter feeds. Her range of skills and knowledge when it comes to digital marketing is varied, and has certainly been successfully tried and tested. “More Than a Few Words” is the perfect example of one of these strategies.

Lorraine's real-world experience sets her apart from other competitors, as well as her decades of experience as an author, professional speaker and businesswoman in a wide range of contexts and environments. Her willingness and enthusiasm to share her knowledge, whilst maintaining an appetite to continue to grow and learn has seen Lorraine make waves in the global digital marketing industry.

Power Podcasting and Parenting Tips With Brad Zude
28:59

In this episode, we have an interview with Brad Zude about his growing empire in the parenting niche. Together with his wife Greta, they run Influencer Parenting. Brad shares some of his quick tips and hard-earned secrets to growing a healthy podcast and expand your business through the hub of podcasting. We cover some of the processes he uses to get things done, the little tweaks he puts in to make things special and discusses the dedication it takes to make it in a digital world.

He explains why you don’t have to be born with a passion, but emphasizes that when you see an opportunity, seize it. We discuss the role that podcasting plays in his entire business and the value it adds to his customers. We explore the differences he sees from customers that come to him from podcasting compared to other sources.

Brad explains what makes podcasting special for him, and how to leverage this for everyone’s benefit. Personal stories like a friend’s recipe for blueberry pie come back to him as dedicated listeners demonstrate their zeal for what he adds to their lives. He explains the reasoning behind their two host format and why he doesn’t see the need to constantly be interviewing guests to help his podcast grow.

Brad dives deep with me to talk about how he comes up with ideas for the show. He shares how he structures things so that the duo can keep producing new shows every week while keeping topics fresh and interesting. The different buckets he cycles through become important to fulfilling his content needs as the show progresses (don’t worry, he explains what that means).

We cover the different elements that go into each part of the show and how he seamlessly integrates promotional jabs into his content to make sure the listener is aware that they have more content out there without sounding like a slimy salesman.

We talk about perseverance, and why you can’t expect to be an overnight success. Brad champions the call to action and embracing imperfection. Incremental improvements are covered and he shares why he thinks working to get better is key to success. Consistency and why it’s important for your listeners got thrown in there as well.

Finally, Brad adds a splash of flair by sharing some of his favorite episodes of his show. He teases a few anecdotes from his life that he loves to share, and explains the magic of getting your five-year-olds to do their own laundry.
