2.14: Investigating Evangelism: Should it look different?
3460

Today we're talking with Carlos Rodríguez about if our approach to evangelism needs to change. We're also talking about a bunch of hot topics in social justice and about finding Jesus in deconstruction!! SO EXCITED about this episode!! Q2: What have you observed about conservative Christian approaches toward social justice? What is the fruit of the approach? (@6:11)

Q3: Does God have a preference for the poor? And is that the best thing He can also do for the rich? (@12:48)

Q4. How, if at all, does this understanding of social justice change the way we view evangelism? If so, what changes should we be making as the church? (@14:12)

Q5: Let’s take a side bar here. Is deconstruction biblical? Did Jesus teach it? (@15:07)

Q6: Have our mission trips been evangelization or colonization, or both? (@16:26)

Q7: Is it okay to question everything? Will we find Jesus there? (@17:51)

Q10: On a similar note, would you talk with us about Christian Nationalism? (@33:32)

Q11: What do you think it means to be pro life? Is our version of pro life biblical? (And can we talk about identity politics?) (@37:51)

Q13: What do you think is the most important takeaway for my listeners? (Spoiler: It’s about deconstruction!) (@51:12)

Sponsored by Faithful Counseling: http://faithfulcounseling.com/tiffanydawn - Today we're talking with Sheila Gregoire about some of the damaging teachings we grew up hearing about "biblical sex" in marriage. She's turning some of those teachings on their heads as she shares what a truly biblical sex life looks like, and how this new perspective actually makes sex so much more enjoyable! We're also going to debunk some modesty and dating myths while we're at it. SO EXCITED about this one!! Welcome back to the "Outgrowing the Good Christian Girl" podcast! XOXO, Tiffany

HERE ARE TODAY'S QUESTIONS:

Q3: There's an idea in some Christian circles that women are obligated to have sex anytime their husbands want sex. Where does this idea come from? What does the Bible ACTUALLY say? (@15:28)

Q4: Is orgasm important for a woman to experience? Or is it enough to simply cuddle and enjoy the closeness of sex, without worrying about orgasm? (@20:39)

Q5: Is it okay for women to be a little "selfish" during sex - to pay attention to their own needs and desires? Is that biblical? (@25:01)

Q6: Is it a woman's responsibility to help her husband stay pure (mentally, emotionally, physically) by having lots of sex with him? (@28:29)

Q7: Let's talk about modesty. Is it a woman's responsibility to dress in such a way that guys won't be tempted to "stumble"? (@35:12)

Q8: Will your husband have "eyes for only you"? Is that what godly men do? (@38:45)

Q9: How can a woman heal her perspective toward sex, whether single or married? (@42:38)

Q3: How can we recognize if our approach to spirituality is healthy or unhealthy? (@15:17)

Q5: What red flags should we look for to see if we're being manipulated or gaslighted? And how do we respond if we think that's happening to us? (@29:12)

Q6: What should we do if we’re in a toxic church situation? (@34:22)

Q7: How do we recognize a healthy church? (@38:54)

Q8: How do we heal from church hurts? (@41:42)

Q9: I loved your IG reel: "Things I thought were holy that were actually unhealthy." Would you share a few of these with us, and some steps we can take to become healthier in these areas? (@46:53)

Q10: There’s sadly still such a stigma around mental health in some church circles. So how has your study of the Bible AND psychology led you to view mental health as a Christian? (@53:00)

Q11: You've put together some really thoughtful resources for Christians wrestling with mental health. Would you tell us about your resources and where we can find them? (@59:11)

2.6: Debriefing LGBTQ+: How our beliefs have changed + why
2169

We're wrapping up our mini series on LGBTQ+! Here's what we each believe + our thoughts on some of your comments. Let's talk! XOXO, Tiffany & James

WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT TODAY:
@1:14: Why is this topic the “litmus test” of being a Christian and obeying the Bible?
@2:50: Growing up, what was the message you heard about being gay?
@4:03: When did you start thinking more about this topic?
7:01: seeing the depression in his life
@7:28: What made you start wondering if your understanding of Scripture was correct in this area?
@19:30: As far as what the Bible says on this topic, what are some of the things you’ve been thinking about on this journey? INCLUDING:
     - Something to keep in mind when talking about historical / cultural context
     - Why is the topic of LGBTQ+ such a huge deal in Christian circles when it’s only talked about 6 times in Scripture?
     - Thoughts on the passage when Jesus talks about divorce, and could that apply here, or not?
     - Are we outgrowing the Bible on this podcast?
     - Let’s compare Romans 1 to the wording in 1 Corinthians 11.
     - But Jesus never addressed same sex relationships - what does that mean?
     - Are we really meant to make a judgment call in this area, as heterosexual people?
@30:40: What do you believe on this topic now?
     - Also brief side bar @33:33: What did God intend marriage to be? Monogamy or different genders?

NEW VIDS: Tuesday Life Advice + Friday Faith Series! 💕

2.1: Investigating Deconstruction (+ why James hates that word)
1857

What do WE mean by deconstruction? How has Tiffany's "deconstruction" affected our marriage? What do we each believe about Scripture? How has that view changed? And do conversations like this promote unity or disunity in church?? Welcome back to Outgrowing the Good Christian Girl (OCG) - Season 2! Can't wait to share this episode (and all of season 2!) with you guys!! Praying God uses this to help all of us find common ground!

Here are today's questions, that James and I are both answering!
1. What was your old way of thinking about God and the Bible?
2. The first thing we’ll be looking at is fruit. What was the fruit of that in your life?
3. What was your aha moment when you realized maybe you were misunderstanding the Bible?
- A brief overview of what season 2 will be talking about, and why we're only sharing one side of the story on each topic!-
4. The second thing we’ll be looking at is intent. What do you believe about Scripture now?
5. There’s is a buzz word going around right now that has so many different meanings. Some fear it, some love it, some are confused by it. So let’s talk about it. Deconstruction. What does that mean to you? Are you on that journey now?
6. What has the journey been like for James? How has Tiffany's "deconstruction" affected your marriage?
7. Some would say these conversations will only lead to disunity. What would you say about that?
Come back next week to begin a mind-blowing, 3-week series about hell!

THIS SERIES: I've been dreaming up a series called "Outgrowing the Good Christian Girl" for about a year now. It's all about my faith journey from growing up in a conservative, predominantly white evangelical homeschool community, and the questions and anxieties and cynicism I started experiencing a few years ago. I want to share the path I feel like God has guided me on - to find a new understanding of my faith - and the freedom that's brought.
