REWIND: Finding Healthy Boundaries in Dating and Romantic Relationships, Exercising Effective Communication, Exploring Non-Negotiables & Deal Breakers and Learning How & When to Set Clearer Boundaries
00:37:09

Boundaries in dating are a person’s limits in a relationship. They allow each person to maintain their needs, space, individuality and health.  Boundaries can be hard to create but ESSENTIAL in relationship, whether platonic or romantic. Today, our host, Tyra, shares some insight on how she realized she needed healthier boundaries in her romantic life and gives us some tools we can start implementing today that will help us build those fortified boundaries.

Athletic Greens is giving you a FREE 1-year supply of Vitamin D AND 5 free travel packs with your first purchase. www.athleticgreens.com/affirmations

This week’s Affirmation is “ How people treat me is their karma; how I react is mine”

The Biggest Takeaways from Today’s Episode on finding healthy boundaries in Dating:

  • DECIDE HOW YOU FEEL: Decide and figure out what you will tolerate and not tolerate in your life. Anything that makes you question it or feel uneasy is a sign that this might be something you are uncomfortable with, and is outside of your boundaries. Decide what behaviors you will accept and not accept.
  • NON-NEGOTIABLES: Decide what the consequence is when someone breaks one of your rules. It is likely to happen, so decide what your response to the problem will be. And if you have non-negotiables, address what those are clearly so your partner understands if certain lines are crossed, you will leave.
  • COMMUNICATE/LISTEN: Communicate your boundaries clearly. Even if you’re afraid they might not agree, at the end of the day, your comfortability is the most important. And listen when your partner tells you what does or doesn’t work for them.
  • FOLLOW THROUGH: If someone crosses your boundary then do what you said you were going to do! And express how you feel. You can be compassionate, yet firm.

She spent the entire month of December, at home,  reflecting on how her life has been going since this major life change. She weighs the good along with the bad, and we speak on moving forward and learn to make promises to ourselves and to always put ourselves first because you cannot give from an empty cup. In order for our cups to overflow, we have to show ourselves love, and sometimes that's hard when your life suddenly changes.

This week’s Affirmation is “ My fears of tomorrow are melting away”

The Biggest Takeaways from Today’s Episode on Change:

  • Putting yourself first fills your cup. You cannot give from an empty cup, the goal is to give from your saucer.
  • God says trouble doesn't last always.. Matthew 6:34. So do not worry on tomorrow, because change is inevitable.

REWIND: Finding Excitement in Navigating Singleness Part 2 - Do I Have Abandonment Issues? Anxiety in Dating, and Exploring Envy & What It Can Look Like
00:23:04

We are getting very real and raw today. Navigating Singleness has been a rollercoaster for Tyra and she’s only been single for a few months (as of August 2021). But, in today’s episode, we are tackling childhood trauma that influences your relationship with romantic relationships and things like envy, jealousy, and anxiety around finding “The One”.

Tyra believes in order to be a whole person and be 100% available to a partner, you need to love yourself first, at least a little bit..

This week’s Affirmation is “I deserve self love.”

Tyra takes some time to share her thoughts and feelings on navigating singleness while it seems like everyone around you have what you long for. And, in this episode, we learn that its okay to long for things, but a reframe always needs to happen to keep you afloat during your season of singleness.

There is a reason God is saying “Not Yet” and all you can do is continue to LIVE your life and not view it as a waiting period. But, we all know that can get hard, so take a listen.

The Biggest Takeaways from Today’s Episode on Navigating Singleness Part 2 are:

  • Reflect on your relationship with Romantic Relationships
    • Get to know who YOU are in romantic relationships
  • Don't rush into relationships, let them build over time.
  • Acknowledge your anxiety or worry around “Finding The One”
  • Envy happens, and when it does, take a step back to focus on YOU.

The word “trauma” is thrown around a lot these days, and it can be hard to know what “counts” as trauma. Especially when the trauma we experienced was so long ago, when we were children. It’s easy to dismiss our experiences, blame ourselves, or think “it’s not that big of a deal.”

Childhood Trauma Series Pt 1 - What is Childhood Trauma? Do I Have Unresolved Trauma? How Do I Heal From Past Trauma? Getting In Touch With My Inner Child.
00:35:57

Subscribe to the Pod! https://anchor.fm/affirmationsforblackgirls/subscribe

We can’t be afraid to talk about the things that are difficult. Healing takes time, and it requires us to be vulnerable. Sometimes that means diving into experiences that are not easy to relive or to talk about with others. We can keep our inner child safe, by standing up for her in this moment, and talking about what she went through.

Today’s episode is the first in a new series on Childhood Trauma. Tyra discusses what childhood trauma is, her own experience with it, and how we can learn to heal. This series will be difficult at times, but it is so important and so worth talking about.

Follow along as we talk more in-depth about this topic in future episodes!

This week’s Affirmation is: “I keep my inner-child safe by showing myself kindness, compassion and patience.”

Let me come right out and say it, most of my life I have HATED change. Yes, hate is a strong word, but I resisted change and uncomfortable situations so much that it felt like the “right” thing to do… I slowly began to realize, accepting change and finding comfort in uncomfortable situations was the key to growth.

In today’s episode, Tyra is taking a deep dive into discomfort and Comfort Zones. Because as Billy Alsbrooks said, Your comfort zone is where dreams go to die. Life begins on the other end of your comfort zone, and if you truly want to live life.. We have to lay our comfort zone to rest.

Yea sure, life happens, things happen, and we have to learn how to roll with the punches. Even though that's a bit cliche. It's 1000% true. This week’s Affirmation is “ I am at peace even when life gets crazy."

Tyra takes some time to explain ways you can learn to master discomfort and truly start living without being a slave to the unknown world of being uncomfortable. Take a listen!

The Biggest Takeaways from Today’s Episode on Mastering Discomfort:

  • START! .. whatever it is.
  • Don’t quit even when it gets tough.
  • Continue to push past your comfort zone.
  • Embrace the “suckiness”
  • Surround yourself with like minded people
  • Celebrate your small successes and progress!

Breakups happen. And, they are important! They teach us about ourselves. They show us what we want and what we don’t want. They allow us to move away from what is NOT for us, and closer to what IS. They even show us the parts of ourselves we need to break up with.

Today, Tyra plays the game “We’re Not Really Strangers, Break Up Edition” So, grab a journal and pen and write down these refectory questions and answer them along with her!

Here are today’s questions:

  1. What has helped you heal from a heartbreak in the past? Besides time and meeting someone new?
  2. What advice would you give a friend or loved one going through a similar situation as you?
  3. What validation are you seeking from a partner? How can you give it to yourself?
  4. Do you have a limiting belief about love? Where do you think it stems from? How can you challenge this belief?
  5. What did your last relationship make you appreciate about yourself?

This week’s Affirmation is “I am worthy of love from myself and others.”

Finding Healthy Boundaries in Dating and Romantic Relationships, Exercising Effective Communication, Exploring Non-Negotiables & Deal Breakers, and Learning How & When to Set Clearer Boundaries
00:35:34

Boundaries in dating are a person’s limits in a relationship. They allow each person to maintain their needs, space, individuality and health.  Boundaries can be hard to create but ESSENTIAL in relationship, whether platonic or romantic. Today, our host, Tyra, shares some insight on how she realized she needed healthier boundaries in her romantic life and gives us some tools we can start implementing today that will help us build those fortified boundaries.

Tyra sits down and gets real about her break up, seasonal depression, and moving away from home and how it has all affected her life.

Finding Luxury in Daily Life with Bria Black
00:31:51

Today we have a very special guest on the podcast! My best friend and Luxury Lifestyle Advocate, Bria Black! In today’s episode we are chatting it up about all of the luxury upgrades we have made in our lives! Honestly, if it weren’t for Bria, I wouldn’t know what the true definition of “Luxury” is. And, let me tell y’all, since she’s opened my eyes to this world of luxury living on my own terms, I've been so much happier with daily life. I get excited to get up in the morning to do little things for myself throughout the day to show myself some love.

This week’s Affirmation is “ I am a confident black woman that deserves all the good things coming my way.”

I believe Luxury is truly a state of mind, because it all depends on what you think is luxurious and what makes you feel comfortable. So, Bria dives into what made her want to start living a more luxurious lifestyle, how she’s keeping up with this new lifestyle, and how we can all find daily luxuries in our lives.

The Biggest Takeaways from Today’s Episode on Daily Luxuries are:

  • Do a Self Assessment. What do you love about your life now? What makes you happy in your daily life? How can you take it up a notch?
  • Think to yourself “can I make this thing I love a daily practice?
  • Learn what “Daily Luxuries” mean to YOU.

Finding Comfort in Discomfort
00:20:55
