Episode Date
Baseball Is Dead Episode 50: Judge Ties Maris
7004
Aaron Judge has finally done it! He's now tied with Roger Maris for the most home runs in AL history. We're talking about how his home run record compares to Pujols', whether breaking 61 will make him the real home run king, and Jared's mom having more followers than Roger Maris Jr. Jared rips apart the Maris family, specifically Roger Maris Jr., for not letting Aaron Judge's family enjoy the moment and congratulating them on behalf of their father. We play the audio of Michael Kay's call and decide if he let the moment breathe or not (he didn't). With another major MLB record being broken, Twitter has gone into a frenzy about steroids and cheating in baseball. We examine why baseball is so heavily scrutinized for steroids compared to other sports. Joey has the balls to say that Aaron Judge is not doing steroids which is big of him. We move on to take a look at the current playoff picture and talk about what might happen down the stretch to change the matchups. Dallas is convinced that the Astros are coming out of the AL and the Brewers are making the playoffs. We end with a little NL MVP discussion and also talk about the video of Mike Trout walking by kids asking him for an autograph (kids that were set up by a professional baseball autograph seller). Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 49: Pujols Hits 700th Home Run
10671
Congratulations to the newest member of the 700-HR club, Albert Pujols! After a slow start to the season and chasing a record that was seemingly unattainable, Pujols turned on the jets in the second-half to make history on Friday night hitting his 699th and 700th in the same game. Meanwhile, the A's knocked around Jacob deGrom and Dallas is starting to lean toward Joey's side about not being all-in on deGrom. The Guardians clinched the AL Central after going 16-2 in their past 18 games and Jared is cashing his $10,000 ticket. Clips from the Guardians locker room celebration surfaced with audio of people chirping the White Sox and Tony La Russa. Joey has been reluctant to say the Braves will win the NL East but he thinks the next Mets/Braves series will decide the division winner. On the other hand, Spencer Strider is out until the playoffs which is a big blow to the Braves right now and potentially down the road. Jared and Joey think Billy the Marlin is pulling the strings within the Marlins organization and it all comes back to the mascot cocaine ring. Barry Bonds has been blackballed from MLB just because he was the greatest player to ever do steroids. We're trying to figure out why he gets different treatment from the league as opposed to other players who did steroids. Jared finds it weird that the Maris family is attending all of Judge's potential record-setting games to root against him. Judge also failed to hit his 61st home run in a four-game series against the Red Sox so we're predicting where he may hit it. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 48: Judge Hits 60
8735
Today’s show starts with Joey immediately revealing his involvement in the mascot cocaine ring. Jared woke up yesterday morning and began slandering Babe Ruth almost immediately. Aaron Judge’s recording-breaking season continues as he’s having the best September EVER and currently leads the Triple Crown race heading into today. Apple TV has the game on Friday so Yankees fans are worried that Judge’s record-breaking homer won’t be called by Michael Kay which leads us down a John Sterling rabbit hole. The White Sox may be officially the most disappointing team of the season and we’re talking about Tony La Russa’s phantom stint on the IL. Randy Arozarena and Yandy Díaz apparently have a personal issue and the Rays got swept by the Astros. Zack Hample continues to be under fire as a damning video was released of John the security guard saying he stole a ball from a kid. Joey might be the last one in Hample’s corner. Kyle Schwarber hit his 40th home run and has the 9th best WAR on his own team. Philly fans could be nervous about their baseball team and we talk about if they’ll miss the playoffs. Jared and Joey recount the greatest inning of all time and talk about how with the new wild cart format some teams may be robbed of a home playoff game.  If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, crisis counseling and referral services can be accessed by calling 1-800-GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537) (IL/IN/MI/NJ/PA/WV/WY), 1-800-NEXT STEP (AZ), 1-800-522-4700 (CO/NH), 888-789-7777/visit http://ccpg.org/chat (CT), 1-800-BETS OFF (IA), 1-877-770-STOP (7867) (LA), 877-8-HOPENY/text HOPENY (467369) (NY), visit OPGR.org (OR), call/text TN REDLINE 1-800-889-9789 (TN), or 1-888-532-3500 (VA). 21+ (18+ NH/WY). Baseball Is Dead Episode 47: Managing Jacob deGrom
9429
We're back and Jared and Dallas are trying to buy a bar outside of a baseball stadium. It's mid-September so that means from this point forward we'll be taking a look at the standings/playoff picture during every episode. Jacob deGrom fanned 13 in his outing yesterday, including eight in his first three innings. We're talking about how Buck Showalter should manage him during the playoffs with his injury trouble and his late-inning numbers. The Dodgers are already over 100 wins and they're more boring than ever. That's not a knock on the team, they're just so fundamentally good that it's becoming boring to watch them win every game they play. With the playoff picture becoming more and more clear, we're looking at potential World Series matchups and deciding which matchup has the most juice. Joey points out that Aaron Judge has a higher WAR this year than the entire Athletics lineup and Dallas feels like it's a targeted attack. Spencer Strider is the fastest pitcher in MLB history to reach 200 Ks and we're talking about how he's have a lowkey "oh shit" year. It wouldn't be BID without a little Judge Vs Ohtani talk so we close the show with Dallas' pitch on why Ohtani should be the AL MVP which causes him to miss his tattoo appointment. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 46: Judge To The Red Sox?
9483
We’re back and two thirds of the podcast is ready for the baseball season to be over. Dallas is super jealous about Aaron Judge wanting to sign with the Red Sox after he basically begged to come to Boston in a postgame interview. Jared is considering leg-lengthening surgery which Dallas is also jealous about. Alek Manoah got into it with some dude on Twitter who thinks fat guys in baseball are ruining the game which resulted in said dude deleting his account. The Angels have clinched yet another losing record and we’re talking about how having two of the best players ever doesn’t make you a good baseball team if you have no one else. The Mets got swept by the Cubs which was a big missed opportunity by the Braves to gain some ground, although Joey doesn’t see it that way. With the new rule changes we’re talking about if teams currently out of playoff contention should stop shifting to prepare themselves for next year. We also dive into how the pitch clock might disrupt the rhythm of pitchers and hitters. Joey points out all the rule changes Rob Manfred has implemented in his time as commissioner compared to the number of rule changes in MLB history. Zach Plesac was dropped by his agency after breaking his thumb while “aggressively” taking off his shirt and we’re trying to figure out how someone can take off their shirt aggressively. We’re also celebrating Roberto Clemete day and floating some ideas on how we can grow the game of baseball. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 45: New MLB Rules
9591
Today we're taking a look at playoff standings and figuring out the new playoff format once and for all. We're talking about teams on the bubble in the NL and Joey thinks you cannot count the Padres in. We get into baseball nerd discussion and admit that if you're watching as much baseball as us you have to be a nerd; it's just about being a self-aware nerd. We have some new MLB rules as it pertains to pitch-clock and shifting and we're diving into how this will affect the game next year and in the coming years. We also can't forget about the implementation of bigger bases which is huge for fans of base-stealing. Joe Maddon had some bitter comments about analytics making the game unwatchable so we're playing the audio and trying to figure out where he's coming from. Manny fucking Machado has been one of the best hitters in baseball since he reminded the world that he's Manny fucking Machado, but Juan Soto is in the midst of the worst slump of his career. Pujols hit TWO more home runs since the last episode which puts his total at 697; passing ARod and getting himself three away from 700. The Mariners and Braves played what might be the game of the year and we're playing audio from the electric Mariners broadcast team. Mike Trout has hit six home runs in his last six games and might be on the cusp of making major league history. Derek Jeter threw a ball for his first pitch appearance and also stood in front of the mound which many are saying is very insulting. Jared needs to go to the doctor. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 44: AL MVP Debate
7032
Today we’re taking a deep dive into everyone’s favorite topic: the Shohei Ohtani vs Aaron Judge AL MVP debate. We’re also checking in on the playoff picture and taking a look at where everyone stands in their division/wild card races. The Braves have been the best team in baseball for 3+ months and find themselves neck and neck with the Mets for first place in the NL East. Meanwhile, the Mets seemingly have one more legit series left this year and it’s against the Braves. It looked like the AL ROY award was a wrap, but there’s a new contender that might give JRod a run for his money. Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina are set to tie a record with 324 starts together. Judge is absolutely carrying the Yankees and we compare his stats vs the rest of the team’s. Padres fans were heard booing Juan Soto after a 2-for-28 stretch and we talk about why that may not be the best strategy to get him to sign an extension. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 43: Pujols Hits 695th
7368
Breaking News: Jared's herbal cigarettes are here and his journey to become the face of the herbal cig industry starts now. Albert Pujols hit his 695th home run and is now five away from 700. Zac Gallen hasn't given up a run in 41 2/3 innings pitched and we wonder if he's on the move to a contender in 2023. The Dodgers are straight up boring at this point because they win every game. Goldschmidt is in the triple crown conversation which prompts us to discuss if the qualifiers should be changed. The Twins caught the Guardians and their bullpen looks like it could be a problem for teams in the playoffs. Dallas Keuchel has been DFA'd for the THIRD time this year so he's inevitably going to end up with the Dodgers. The Yankees lose Benintendi to injury and are still scuffling despite Judge hitting a home run every game. The Seattle Mariners are in the midst of a 47-19 stretch since June 21st and are comfortably the third best team in the American League. The Mets lost two of three to the Nationals which brings their NL East lead down to one game. Joey still doesn't have the balls to say the Braves will win the division, though. Dylan Cease was PISSED after throwing a complete game shutout because he lost his no-hit bid in the 9th inning. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 42: September Is Here
5872
It’s September 1st and we’re taking a look at where we stand in the 2022 MLB season. We’re talking division leaders, wild card spots, teams on the bubble, MVP discussions, and a lot more. Will the Guardians hang onto their one-game lead in the AL Central? Will the Yankees continue their abysmal second half and choke away a 15.5 game lead in the AL East? Will the Mariners make the playoffs and win the World Series? We're answering all these questions on today's pod. Timmy Trumpet was at Citi Field last night and performed a live Edwin Diaz intro and it was ELECTRIC. We can't wait to see more of it in the playoffs. Dallas has some eye-opening stats about Aaron Judge's performance as it pertains to the Yankees winning baseball games. Jared is considering taking half what he's going to win on his Guardians AL Central bet and putting it on the Seamen to win the World Series. We also talk AL MVP and reveal the SHOCKING odds that has Dallas questioning everything. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 41: JRod Got PAID
9246
We open up today’s episode talking about Adam Wainwright’s comments on superstition in baseball. Should we be having more players mic’d up during broadcasts? JRod got the BAG and when it’s all said and done he could have the most lucrative contract in MLB history. Who’s the next young guy on track to get paid like JRod? Zack Hample and Marcus Stroman got into in on Twitter and we’re breaking down the thread tweet by tweet. Josh Hader has had a brutal stretch and we’re trying to figure out why. Is it his release point or constipation? It’s really anyone’s guess. News of a Tony Gonsolin forearm injury breaks while we’re recording and he’s unfortunately heading to the IL. Meanwhile, the Dodgers magic number is 16 and we’re still in August. Jared is making a case for Nolan Arenado to get MVP votes but Dallas thinks it’s Goldschmidt in a landslide. Chapman is heading to the IL with an infected tattoo which begs the question does Oakland have the worst tattoo parlors in the country? We also get a bonus Dallas Braden ripping off his nipple story. Baseball Is Dead Episode 40: Fernando Tatís Jr. Apologizes
9797
Jared has joined forces with his new best friend Alek Manoah in an effort to take down Gerrit Cole after meeting him in Boston this morning. Joey and Jared are arguing whether it was Cole or Judge who fired up the boys to help the Yankees sweep the Subway Series. Fernando Tatís Jr. has publicly apologized. We're breaking down the audio and deciding whether it's sincere and if we believe him. Oneil Cruz hit a ball 122.4 mph which is the highest recorded exit velocity in the Statcast era. The 2023 MLB Schedule was announced and we're discussing whether we like the new scheduling format. Arte Moreno is reportedly looking to sell the Angels and Jared might be the buyer. Carlos Correa returns to Houston and Jared absolutely rips apart his wife's YouTube channel. The Cleveland Guardians are in first place and Jared is guaranteeing that they win the division by at least six games. Jordan Montgomery pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout which leads to us grading the Yankees trade deadline as a whole. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 39: Ozuna From The Braves
9193
We’re back with Episode 39 and jared wants to clarify our baseball movie discussion from last episode. Dallas dressed as Freddie Mercury and people got mad at Jared for bullying him. The footage from Marcell Ozuna’s DUI arrest was released and we’re breaking down his effort to try and use his name to get let off easy. We react to the audio of the Braves radio broadcast introducing Ozuna as “Ozuna from the Braves.” The Phillies blew three leads in one game and the broadcast sounded like they wanted to kill themselves. The Dodgers have the deepest lineup of all time and have guys on the bench who are better than some teams’ everyday starters. Dustin May is back and was dicing; Jared says he would’ve been burned at the stake at the Salem Witch Trials. We take a look at each teams World Series odds and find that the Mets are tied with the Dodgers. TMZ picked up on the video that we posted and Barstool stole of A’s fans having sex in the Coliseum; looks like they could be facing six months in prison. Josh Hader has been removed from the closer role for the Padres and we’re talking about his struggles over the last couple months. Gerrit Cole embarrassed himself by overreacting to Alex Manoah hitting Aaron Judge. Albert Pujols is arguably the best hitter in baseball in the second half of the season and we break down his chances of reaching 700 home runs. We gone! Baseball Is Dead Episode 38: Marcell Ozuna Busted For DUI
8199
Marcell Ozuna was busted for a DUI which has put the Braves in a really tough spot with three years left on his contract. We talk about his prior history and whether we'll see him in the MLB again. Paul Goldschmidt might be NL MVP if the season ended today and one of the only guys that might keep him out of it is on his own team. The Braves announced a contract extension with Michael Harris and we talk about the continued success of the Braves front office in signing young studs to long-term team-friendly deals. We're breaking down yet another Mets/Braves series and throwing out some DeGrom stats that will make your head spin. Mets fans are also pissed at Jared for commenting on the atmosphere in Atlanta. Tony La Russa got a tip from a fan to put in a pinch runner and took his advice which was hilarious. Tatís Jr. met with a couple teammates regarding his steroid use saga and we continue discussions on how it will affect his career and legacy. Mark DeRosa was named the manager of the USA team for the WBC so we're congratulating him and looking ahead to the tournament. We talk some baseball movies and WE'RE GONE! Baseball Is Dead Episode 37: Tatís Jr. Popped For Steroids
8162
In shocking news, Fernando Tatis Jr. has been suspended 80 games for testing positive for steroids and will miss the rest of the season. We're breaking down the news from a few different angles including his teammates reactions and how this might affect his image as arguably a top-five superstar in baseball. This leads to further discussion about steroid use among former and current players and how it affected the rest of their careers. Jared threw out the first pitch at Fenway on Sunday Night Baseball and it was right down the middle. This is huge for everyone because now we can keep making content. He walks us through the whole experience and talks about the nerves that started setting in days before it happened. Albert Pujols hit two home runs in a game and is now 11 home runs shy of 700. We talk about if 700 is realistically attainable. Dallas asks the crew what kind of baseball player you would want to create a team with if you could "build" a player, which basically is another segment of him blowing Shohei Ohtani. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 36: Manny Fucking Machado
8832
It's Thursday all day baby! We're taking a look at some of the MLB matchups this weekend and boy are there some juicy ones. A Cardinals prospect hit for the home run cycle this week which seemingly has only happened one other time in the history of the universe. This leads to discussion on what be our personal home run cycles in our daily lives. Manny Machado was asked how he felt about the Padres being swept by the Dodgers and responded, "I'm Manny fucking Machado." We're diving into this quote and trying to figure out what the hell he was talking about. Don Orsillo had a sweet walk-off call, the Mariners announcers had an even better one, but the Korean announcers blew both out of the water. A little leaguer was hit in the head with a pitch and then went out to the mound to console the pitcher who was visibly upset. Jared thinks it never would have happened without cameras being present. Dallas tell an insane story about he and his teammates jumping an umpire in a tournament. Michael Kay went IN on Joey Gallo calling him one of the worst Yankees of all-time. Jared and Dallas think he was speaking facts but Joey comes to Gallo's defense. The Baltimore Orioles are currently holding a playoff spot and we talk about whether they'll actually make the playoffs. Their closer Felix Bautista has one of the cooler intro songs among closers, and we talk about how we need more of that in the game today. Joey also wants Adley Rutschman in the ROY conversation. Chris Sale apparently fell off is bike and we're talking about whether we believe that story or think it's bullshit. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 35: Mets Steamroll The Braves
6957
Baseball is dead? Nah. Over the weekend the MLB set a record for the largest one-day crowd total since 2019. Dallas is crediting the A's even though everyone at the Coliseum were Giants fans. Jared gets a tweet saying that he's everything that's wrong with America and we give our takes on whether that's true. The Mets took four of five from the Braves and we're getting Joey's live reaction to his division hopes going down the drain. They also caught the Yankees in the standings, who haven't won a game since they traded Joey Gallo. Meanwhile, the Dodgers haven't lost a game since acquiring Gallo. The Dodgers/Padres series was a dud because the Dodgers blew out the Padres in almost every game and reminded them that they're still king of the AL West. Dallas thinks we shouldn't sleep on the Cardinals and Joey reminds us that Albert Pujols does damage against lefties. The Mariners have a new clubhouse dog which gets us thinking which animals we should introduce to the Red Sox and Braves clubhouses. The Phillies set a franchise record with 14 home runs in four games while sweeping the Nats; Jared thinks the Phillies are good. We end the episode with a heated discussion on whether Daniel Vogelbach is fat, and Jared plans to find out in person tonight. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 34: The Padres Are STACKED
9313
Juan Soto got traded to the San Diego Padres along with basically everyone else who was on the trade block. The Padres are STACKED with superstars which begs the question does their lineup potentially fuck more than the Braves? Dallas thinks Josh Bell shouldn't have been at the introductory press conference because he was stealing shine from Soto. Joey is also formally accusing the Padres owner of selling drugs to fund the team. Swinging Friar might be the worst mascot name in sports and we debate why the fuck he's called that. We do a quick throwback to Rikk from Chevy with the absolute worst WS MVP presentation of all time. Jared gets on Dallas for always trying to work teams that he has personal beef with into conversations that has nothing to do with them. The Angels hit seven home runs and fucking lost to the A's which is the perfect depiction of Angels baseball. The Mets and Braves are in the middle of a five game set and Edwin Diaz is firmly in Joey's nightmares even if he won't admit it. We also dive into all the team-friendly contracts that the Braves have. Just Verlander may be the new favorite for AL Cy Young and we're taking a look at his year as a whole. The Brewers are in shambles after they traded their All-Start/best closer in the league. We talk about the players reaction to trading Josh Hader. We also compare Dodgers and Padres fans and try to decide who is rowdier, and who cares more about baseball. It came out that the Angels "never came close" to trading Ohtani and we talk about the direction of the franchise. Vin Scully passed away this week so Jared and Dallas pay their respects and talk about how he changed the game of baseball. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 33: Trade Deadline Fireworks
8021
The trade deadline is tomorrow and so far it has been pretty uneventful on the trade market, until now! We have multiple trades break during today's episode and we're reacting live to the news, including the Brewers shockingly moving Josh Hader to the Padres. Jared talks about how he almost broke the Luis Castillo trade until Passan swiped it from him. Juan Soto has yet to be dealt so we're power ranking the bets fits for him among the Cardinals, Dodgers, and Padres. Aaron Judge now has 42 home runs and we're talking about if AL MVP is back up for debate. Dallas still thinks it's ridiculous to consider anyone but Shohei. The Yankees trade for Scott Effross and the Padres extend Joe Musgrove during the show so we're reacting live to those transactions as well. The Angels announced they are keeping Shohei Ohtani despite serious offers coming in from other teams. JRod is on the IL which may open the door for Mr. Peña to creep his way back. into the Rookie of the Year race. Joey closes the show by welcoming back Jacob DeGrom. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 32: Subway Series Sweep
7422
The deadline is less than a week away and there are still a couple of teams on the fence. We talk about who should be buyers and who should be sellers. The Giants are falling apart and are definitely looking like sellers. Is Joc going to be on the move again? News about Mike Trout having a rare back condition came out this week and we talk about if it's really as serious as it seemed when the reports came out. Benintendi was traded to the Yankees last night as if Red Sox fans needed any more devastating news. On the bright side, fans in the Bronx are coming up with sick nicknames for him like Benny Bombs! The Orioles are in fourth place in the AL East now and Joey is questioning whether front office personnel are upset that they've put themselves in position to be buyers. The Mets swept the Yankees in the Subway Series which leads to discussion on whether we might see a Mets/Yankees series in October. The A's also swept the Astros which causes Dallas to almost turn this episode into an A's podcast. Max Scherzer came out as being against using PitchCom because he thinks it takes away from the game by removing art of sign-stealing. Dallas agrees. Jared and Joey do not. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 31: Where Is Juan Soto Going?
5992
Congrats to Dallas Braden who just had his third baby girl, proving that he is very much not for the boys. We dive into the Juan Soto situation and explore some potential destinations for him and what a package might look like. The deadline is approaching so we’re looking at each team in the bubble and trying to figure out if they’re buyers or sellers. Dallas and Joey also go in on the Boston Red Sox but Jared doesn’t want to hear it, especially from Dallas who broadcasts for one of the worst teams in baseball. The Dodgers have won eight straight and that pretty much puts a wrap on the NL West. We end the show talking about Jared’s Orioles and Hall of Fame speeches from yesterday. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 30: Recapping All-Star Week
6086
We're recording tonight after the All-Star Game and we're STILL in LA. Joey was the only one who went to the game tonight which was fine with Jared because he didn't want to do the seven-mile hike and 40 flights of stairs that it takes to get into Dodger Stadium. It worked out though because as we discuss, this was a pretty cool game to watch on TV. The MLB debuted a few different new quirks like having two players mic'd up at the same time and umpire cams. We talk about whether this should become mainstream and be implemented into regular season games. A lot of people were up in arms about the same color-schemed jersey's for each league but Jared thought they were dope. Aaron Judge was put on the spot before the game and was forced to brake poor little Jacob from Astoria's heart and tell him to find a new Yankee to be a fan of. J-Rod and Juan Soto battled it out in the finals of the Home Run Derby which was the matchup everyone wanted to see. We talk about J-Rod putting himself on the map on Monday night and how electric his first couple rounds were. Jared demands apologies for being laughed at when we said Pujols would take down Kyle from Waltham in the first round. Juan Soto rejected a $440 million offer from the Nationals and we talk about potential trade spots for him. Enjoy the break and we'll see you after this weekend! Baseball Is Dead Episode 29: Pujols Joins Elite Company Part 2
3446
Dallas deserves credit for nailing his prediction for the Mets/Braves series this past week down to the result of each game. Joey's mad that people think the Mets are the clear NL East favorite now. Jared absolutely goes IN on Jameson Taillon for first unfollowing him on Twitter and now Instagram which he claims is a lot more personal. The Mariners have a 55% chance to make the playoffs after winning 11 straight and we're talking about if America's team is back. The Orioles have won 10 straight and now sit a game and a half behind the Red Sox and Blue Jays for the third wild-card spot. FanGraphs has the Blue Jays at an 81% chance to make the playoffs and the Red Sox at a 55% chance even though they have the same record which seems a little Canadian. Dallas is begging for a 0.1% chance for the A's but it looks like the folks up in Canada just aren't going to give it to them. We close the show talking about potential outfits for Jared and Dallas to debut out here in LA. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 29: Pujols Joins Elite Company Part 1
3259
We're in LA for the All-Star Game but you wouldn't know it's here from walking the streets. We saw maybe one Shohei poster at the airport, but it's okay because we're bringing the energy. The Home Run Derby field was announced and boy is this going to be a fun one. Albert Pujols is of course only participating to check the final box of his illustrious career: joining the prestigious list of players with five Home Run Derby appearances. Wow, what a way to cap off your career. Although we are slightly worried that he might be physically incapable of participating without calling a timeout after every pitch. We break down the bracket, first-round matchups, and make predictions on winners and dark horses. Dallas thinks the stage is set for JRod to make himself known to the national baseball audience. Baseball Is Dead Episode 28: All-Star Selections Part 2
3685
The Braves are now a game and a half back of the Mets after being 10 games back in early June. They face off for a three-game set starting tonight and we're giving predictions on how we think the series will go. The Orioles are red-hot and now have the same record as the Guardians. We discuss a scenario in which all five AL East teams have a better record than the division winner in the AL Central. If this happens we all agree that all five AL East teams should make the playoffs and the AL Central has to take the year off. Dallas apparently has $55K wrapped up in Dodgers World Series futures which seems like a risky decision with another kid on the way. The Mets are also getting DeGrom back and Joey is starting to hear the Jaws music despite what he may say about not being afraid. See you on Friday, enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 28: All-Star Selections Part 1
4544
Jared leads off the show with a MAJOR announcement that you're not going to want to miss. Probably the biggest announcement he's ever made since starting his old podcasts. Jared and Jake were at Sunday Night Baseball and got a fair amount of screen time between Jared's DraftKings commercial and Jake's mediocre seats. We talk about Shohei Ohtani more than doubling the Marlins' average attendance when he took the mound in Miami... wild. The MLB All-Star starters were announced this weekend and we're breaking down each pick position by position and league by league. We talk about the guys who deserve to be there and whether the fans got the voting right, and we talk about the guys who were snubbed and should be there but aren't. More to come in Part 2! Baseball Is Dead Episode 27: Chris Sale Goes Ballistic Part 2
2543
Speaking of the Angels, the Baltimore Orioles now have a better record than them which gets us talking about how the entire AL East should make the playoffs and no one from the AL Central should be allowed in. Shohei hasn't allowed an earned run since June 9th and a lot of people are calling him the best athlete in the world, but he's still extremely underrated. Baseball Is Dead Episode 27: Chris Sale Goes Ballistic Part 1
3898
We kick off the show talking about content plans in LA for the All-Star Game and some big-name potential interviews that may be in the works including one with Jared's white whale. Chris Sale took his frustrations out on a clubhouse TV in Triple-A Worcester and a lot of people on the internet were not pleased. We had a different opinion. We also reminisce back on some of Dallas' blowups back in the day. Pete Alonso had one tough week and Joey thinks he sucks now. He also wants to trade everyone on the Mets to the Angels. Baseball Is Dead Episode 26: The Mets Just Got A Whole Lot Better Part 2
5051
Jared, Dallas, Joey, and Jake are going to the All-Star game and talk about their plans for outfits. Aaron Judge is a Top-5 ASG vote getter but Jared thinks some other players deserve that title. Mr. Peña was looking like the odds-on favorite for Rookie of the Year about a month ago, but JRod may have just overtaken his spot. The Yankees are apparently in heavy pursuit of Frankie Montas which would be real tough for A's fans on top of having the worst record in the league. Robbie Ray has been dealing lately and a lot of people are saying he's back. News that Chris Sale could make his first MLB start this year surfaced during today's show as well. There are rumors that the Padres could be putting Fernando Tatís Jr. in the outfield when he gets back so we break down what that scenario could look like. David Price also may be on the cusp of retirement. All that and a lot more, enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 26: The Mets Just Got A Whole Lot Better Part 1
3129
Jared comes in hot in today's episode and declares that he wants to be the new face of cigarettes in America. Dallas and Joey don't think he can pull it off. The Baltimore Orioles are on fire and are chasing down the Yankees for the best record in baseball. It's a miracle that Javy Báez and Amir Garret haven't fought yet as they had yet another loud discussion over the weekend. Max Scherzer is returning for the Mets tonight and when you couple that with the news of Jacob DeGrom feeling "100%," the Mets seem to be in a pretty good spot. Joey doesn't think their returns will help the Mets much. More in Part 2! Baseball Is Dead Episode 25: Freddie Freeman Drama
4041
It's been an ongoing saga between Freddie Freeman, his agent, and the Braves and we're breaking it all down on today's episode. Joey thinks that Freeman would've signed a 5-year deal with the Braves if things had gone differently during negotiations. We're also talking Astros and whether they're the team to beat in the AL over the Yankees. Jeremy Peña becomes a big topic of discussion when Joey forgets his first name and we will be referring to him as Mr. Peña from here on out until Joey deems he has earned the right to his first name. Juan Soto contract extension numbers have leaked and we talk about his regression this year and whether that contract will be worth it. Dallas also talks about Oakland being one step closer to building a new ballpark. Jake and Jared are in Chicago to watch the Red Sox smack the Cubs so keep an eye out for video content coming from that series. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 24: Brawl In Anaheim
6616
It was an eventful weekend in MLB lead by a huge brawl in Anaheim. Jared and Dallas are breaking down who caused it, who was in the right, and who was in the wrong. Clayton Kershaw made comments about Freddie Freeman’s return to Atlanta that raised some questions about whether his teammates think he needs to move on from his former team. The Yankees got no-hit by the Astros and followed it up with a Judge walk-off homer the next day. They shouldn’t take it for granted either because according to Jared there’s no shot he’s staying with the Yankees. We also have a heated sunflower seed discussion between Jared and Dallas and talk about how if the playoffs started today the Red Sox would win the World Series. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 23: Shohei Ohtani > Babe Ruth Part 1
3599
Shohei Ohtani just had one of the most dominant two-game stretches of all time hitting two 3-run homers with 8 RBI one night, and coming back the next night to pitch 8 shoutout innings with 13Ks. This dude dunks on Babe Ruth. This leads to a discussion about whether Ohtani should win MVP every year for the rest of his career and how you are supposed to weigh his value against other players. We also talk about whether Ohtani will stay in Anaheim once his contract is up. The Guardians have taken over first place in the AL Central and Jared thinks they're here to stay. Joey thinks their season is over. Dallas says the White Sox are fucking toast and Jared think they still have a shot. We also show love to Yordan Álvarez for the monster year he's having and talk about where he stands in the AL MVP discussion. More in Part 2! Baseball Is Dead Episode 22: Mike Trout Goes OFF Part 2
3813
In part 2 we're talking about the Seattle Mariners and who could be a potential lifeline to help save their season. We also talk about the Tatís and Mookie injuries, specifically who stands to be more adversely affected by each injury the Padres or the Dodgers? The Guardians have won six straight series but Dallas still thinks that they're frauds. Jared is going to put $10k on the Guardians to win the division with the DraftKings Sportsbook. Dallas also says that the A's fucking suck which is wild because he works for the team. We round it off with Joey finally giving a little bit of credit to the Mets, Jared pointing out why Ohtani sucks, and Jake putting $20k to win $1 million on the Red Sox to win the division. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 22: Mike Trout Goes OFF Part 1
5304
Mike Trout became the first player in MLB history to hit four game-winning home runs in a single series and Dallas is fired up. This leads to a discussion about his boring shoes and begs the question why the MLB doesn't have its youngest, most exciting players pushing more of their own sneakers. Jerer Encarnación was called up to the Marlins and hit a grand slam for his first career hit in the league. Jared reminisces on José Fernández as he tends to do from time to time; this year would have been his age 30 season. The Red Sox are basically plugged into the ALCS at this point and we discuss what other AL team might join them there. Joey proposes a Bogaerts and Devers for Juan Soto trade which Jared politely declines. More in Part 2! Baseball Is Dead Episode 21: The Braves Are Fired Up Part 1
3505
Dallas is in Boston this week watching the Red Sox absolutely curb-stomp the A's and he has some pretty strong feelings about a particular establishment he visited last night. The Braves are FIRED UP and have won 14 straight against the worst teams in baseball. Joey gives his take and talks about where they might stand at the end of the season when the Mets go through a similar stretch in mid September. There were two immaculate innings in the same game with the exact same three guys at bat each time. Dallas thinks it's crazy and Jared doesn't care. We also talk about Dave Roberts being put in really tough scenarios where he has to decide between letting pitchers try to achieve huge milestones or protecting them from injury and preserving their careers. Baseball Is Dead Episode 21: The Braves Are Fired Up Part 2
3173
The Phillies lost another game in classic Phillies fashion where they're down big, come back, down big again, come back again, and then blow it. Jared and Joey give their takes on whether or not they'll actually make the playoffs. The Guardians are a 1/2 game out of a wild card sport and Joey says they have no fucking chance to even sniff October. Jared reveals that he was the mastermind behind getting Dave Portnoy into the Mike Trout fantasy league which prompts discussion of starting a revenge league among players who aren't in MLB anymore but may be trying to get back in. The Dodgers were swept by the Giants over the weekend which has forced Dallas to finally give some love to the boys in San Fran. The Padres are also a half game out from leading the NL West. The Mets are also on pace to break the record for being hit by pitches and Joey thinks they deserve every one of them. Baseball Is Dead Episode 20: Mohawk Maddon Part 1
2831
In a shocking turn of events it was revealed that prior to receiving the news that he would no longer be managing the Angels, Joe Maddon had his hair cut into a mohawk in yet ANOTHER attempt to fire up the boys. Who's to say that if he had just one more day in his tenure as Angels manager he couldn't have completely turned the season around with the Maddon mohawk. Unfortunately, the the world will never know. Dallas is in Boston and escaped his duties to clean in a maid outfit because Jake has food poisoning, but there is another bet on the line for this series if the A's sweep the Red Sox. The Yankees refuse to lose games despite Gerrit Cole having the highest ERA among Yankees starters. This prompts a live tweet from Jared that is sure to trigger some spicy replies. Baseball Is Dead Episode 19: A Final Firing Up Of The Boys Part 2
4566
In Part 2, we're diving into the Mets chances to make the playoffs. If you're a Mets fan listening to this you're probably upset we're even having this discussion, but we are. We're also talking about Marcus Semien's recent hot streak and if he could be back. Angel Hernandez made some comments about being racially discriminated against and the guys talk through his allegations against the league. Today is also a special day as June 9th is the anniversary of A's former manager Bob Geren's firing! As we all know, Dallas orchestrated an organizational-wide meeting with players and the front office and demanded that Geren was fired. Baseball Is Dead Episode 19: A Final Firing Up Of The Boys Part 1
5049
So far we've opened up the voicemails twice; once for Phillies fans and once for Angels fans. The managers of each of those teams were immediately fired upon the release of those episodes. This time it was Joe Maddon of the Los Angeles Angels. In a last-ditch effort to fire up the boys, Joe Maddon has sacrificed himself for the good of the boys to try to break out this now 14-game losing skid. So far it hasn't worked. Joe Girardi, on the other hand, successfully pulled off the "sacrifice yourself for the boys" move as the Phillies are 6-0 since he was relieved of managerial duties in Philly. This of course leads to discussion of the massive cocaine ring that is in place among the mascots of MLB teams. We also get into Dallas' beef with Jose Canseco and relive the moment he absolutely roasted him last year, talk about the Mariners potentially being back, and discuss Dusty Baker's one-game suspension and whether it was justified. Baseball Is Dead Episode 18: Angels Therapy Session Part 1
4641
The Angels blew a four-run lead and got walked off in the bottom of the ninth to lose their 11th consecutive game last night. We open the voicemails to Angels fans who need a shoulder to cry on, or someone to yell at. The Red Sox swept the A's over the weekend which should mean that Dallas has to clean Jared's apartment in a maid outfit, but Dallas looks like he's going to try to weasel his way out of it. The Braves are also back over .500 and Joey gives his thoughts on the recent hot streak. More to come in Part 2! 8010
In a shocking turn of events it turns out that Mike Trout is the commissioner of the Tommy Pham/Joc Pederson fantasy football league. This leads to discussion on whether Mike Trout is a reliable commissioner or not. It also spawns the creation of a Baseball Is Dead fantasy football league. We also talk about the Astros starting the year at 7-9 but having the best record in baseball since, Joey Votto dropping below .300 for his career batting average, the Padres releasing Robinson Canó, Mookie Betts being red-hot, and a lot more! Baseball Is Dead Episode 16: Pham Slaps Pederson
6704
Jared, Dallas, and Joey are back to break down one of the craziest sports stories of the year so far. Tommy Pham confronted and proceeded to slap Joc Pederson for allegedly disrespecting his teammates in a group text over fantasy football. The guys give their takes on the bizarre incident and try to figure out what was going through Pham's head when he made the decision to slap him. Jared is being very careful about what he says since the Reds are in town to play the Red Sox this weekend so Tommy Pham could be lurking around the streets of Boston as we speak. Other topics today include the situation going on in Philadelphia and how Joe Girardi might be able to fire up the boys, the A's selling $4 DIY hot chocolate and Dallas opening baseball cards during the broadcast, Lindor refusing to pay for Shakira to come perform for Buck Showalter, a look at the current playoff picture and a breakdown of the expanded playoffs, Dallas Keuchel being DFA'd, and a whole lot more! Baseball Is Dead Episode 15: Most Hated Players In Baseball
7665
The guys are back and this week we're breaking down the official "Most Hated Players In Baseball" list based on negative tweets about said players. Dallas and Joey are questioning the legitimacy of the list due to some of the star-studded names that appear near the top. Ronald Acuña Jr. is hurt again and Joey gives his take on how it affects the Braves. Joey Votto seemingly teased his retirement the other day and Jared wants to know if he was being for real or if he has more in the tank after this season. We also dive into the most disappointing teams/players in baseball to start the year. Jared also wants to cancel Joe DiMaggio which leads to discussion of Mickey Mantle's blowjob letter that he wrote to the Yankees. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 14: Tim Anderson Quiets Yankee Stadium
7417
It was an eventful series in The Bronx this past weekend as Josh Donaldson was accused by Tim Anderson, Tony La Russa, and others of making a racist comment to Anderson. Donaldson maintains that he was referencing an interview in 2019 in which Anderson was quoted as saying, "I kind of feel like Jackie Robinson." Jared, Dallas, and Joey give their takes on the situation and speculate on whether this was a racist comment or an inside joke/jab at Anderson. They also talk about whether MLB will take any disciplinary action on Donaldson. Other topics include; Johnny Cueto allowing zero runs in two starts since his return, Justin Verlander dominating in almost every pitching statistic in the AL, the NL East and whether the Braves can get back in it, Manny Machado's hot start and Jared's disdain for Padres fans, Dallas getting Bob Geren fired, and the Red Sox having the best record in baseball since Alex Cora shaved his beard. Baseball Is Dead Episode 13: Dallas Is Shooting Possums
6003
We're LIVE in-studio with Jared and Jonny Gomes, with Dallas and Joey on zoom. Joey has discovered some never before listened to audio of Daryl Strawberry saying he wants to punch Dallas Braden in the face. We listen to the audio and get Dallas' live reaction. Then we move onto the continued infestation of possums in the Oakland Coliseum and talk about why Dallas keeps capturing and killing these possums. The Astros made history by hitting five home runs against the Red Sox which is only the eighth time that's happened in MLB history, though Jared doesn't think it's that impressive. We break down a hypothetical Mets/Dodgers NLCS and predict who would win and why. Taylor Ward is still the hottest hitter on the planet and shows no signs of slowing down, and Dallas questions if Mike Trout is now the third best player on his own team. Jonny shares some WILD international baseball stories, fight stories, Savannah Banana stories and rules, and talks about his upcoming trip to hit homers all over the world in Home Run Derby X. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 12: Cardinals' Ace Albert Pujols
7002
If you thought Albert Pujols already accomplished everything there is to accomplish in his baseball career, you were wrong. This weekend he added pitching to the list as he closed out a game against the Giants who took no issue with him pitching as they're publicly against unwritten rules. Jared commented on the Phillies blowing the last game of the series against the Dodgers and fans were all up in Jared's mentions since the Phillies won the first three games of the series. The Pirates beat the Reds 1-0 and didn't get a hit the entire game which is only the sixth time that's happened in history. Joey talks about what's going on with the Braves after a real tough series against the Pirates. That, and a lot more in Episode 12. We're also debuting our brand new MLB stream with Jared on Tuesday night 5/16 at 7 pm so make sure to tune in for that! Baseball Is Dead Episode 11: Detmers Vs. Phillips
6551
Reid Detmers no-hit the Rays in his 11th big league start and the boys are STILL fired up in LA. Brett Phillips gets another appearance on the mound and Dallas questions if his shine as the American Shohei Ohtani has died out at this point. The Blue Jays are off to an underwhelming start based on how much preseason hype their lineup got. Christian Yelich hit for the cycle for the third time in his career which bodes well for Jared's Comeback Player of the Year prediction. Jared also brings up the fact that the Reds are 4-2 since Jeff Passan called them out for tanking. Joey thinks that allowing civilized fighting between players could make the game safer. We also get a live show of Jared's apartment windows getting cleaned so make sure to check out our YouTube channel for that. Baseball Is Dead Episode 10: The Boys Are Fired Up
6533
Joey called it... the boys are fired up! Joe Maddon's Angels have gone 16-7 since the infamous intentional walk with the bases loaded. The Braves look like they may be turning a corner and are definitely the only chance of our teams collectively finishing above .500. The Red Sox were swept by the White Sox over the weekend and the A's just lost their ninth straight game on Sunday, so it looks like the Braves will have to win at least 100 games to get that done. We also talk about Joe Girardi potentially being on the hot seat in Philly, Taylor Ward absolutely raking for the Angels, George Kirby's debut for Seattle on Mother's Day, the Mets' insane comeback on Friday and if they're for real, Jared getting free chicken fingers at a WWE event, and a little astrology to end the show. Pray for the Red Sox and A's. Baseball Is Dead Episode 9: The New Alpha Ump (Feat. Jason Krizan)
7008
With Joe West now retired, everyone has been waiting for the next Alpha Umpire of MLB to step up and claim the crown. Dan Bellino officially put his name in the hat this week during one of the most bizarre player/umpire interactions in recent memory where he stared directly at Madison Bumgarner for an uncomfortably long time during a hand check for sticky substances. Jared, Dallas, and Joey break down this unusual moment and try to figure out why it happened. The guys also get into some other topics from baseball this week which include the Yankees win-streak coming to an end, Dallas's call of Mike Zunino's game tying home run on the A's broadcast, John Sterling being up to his old tricks again, Aaron Judge's hot streak and moment with fan in Toronto, and Eric Hosmer being the hottest hitter in baseball. We also catch up with Jason Krizan who over the weekend played in his first MLB game and recorded his first hit in the big leagues after playing 11 years and 1,132 games in the minor leagues. Enjoy! 9533
We said we'd get him and god dammit we got him. The one and only Joe West joins Baseball Is Dead and becomes our first official interview on the new podcast. We talk to Joe about his staredown with MadBum, having the most number of games umpired of all-time, his favorite catchers he's worked with, the best pitchers he's ever seen, interactions between umpires and managers, throwing people out, and a ton more. If you've ever wanted to hear an umpire's perspective on the most highly debated topics in baseball this is the interview to listen to. Huge thanks to Joe West for being so open and willing to tell stories from a perspective that most people have never heard before. Throughout the rest of the episode Jared, Dallas, and Joey break down the biggest topics of the week so far in MLB. They cover the Nolan Arenado fight, the Met's getting thrown at, Bassit's comments about the baseballs, Joc Pederson having some choice words with the fans, Ronald Acuña Jr. coming back and Eric Hosmer chasing Ted Williams' batting title. Baseball Is Dead Episode 6: Angel Hernandez Is Awful (Feat. Jonny Gomes)
9697
We are excited to announce that Jonny Gomes will be joining Baseball Is Dead as a regular contributor to the show! In Episode 6 Jonny, Jared, Dallas, and Joey break down the biggest MLB storylines from over the weekend. We talk about Yankees fans throwing trash at the Guardians outfielders after their walk-off win, Miguel Cabrera getting his 3,000th hit, Reds fans being asked to remove bags from their heads in the stands, offense and batting averages being at an all-time low, and a whole lot more. We also talk about what it would be like if hitters had access to statistics while in the batters' box in the same capacity that pitchers and fielders on defense do. Angel Hernandez had an awful Sunday Night Baseball game in which he was booed and yelled at by Kyle Schwarber which leads to discussion by Jonny on when you should/shouldn't argue balls and strikes. Jared also sees a video of Gerrit Cole touching the back of his pants between pitches which leads to discussion on whether pitchers are still getting away with using sticky substances. Enjoy! Joey also shares an interesting tidbit about the Braves apparently not touching Freeman's locker in the clubhouse since he's left. The guys then get into a variety of other topics including the poor attendance at Oakland A's games, the Tommy Pham/Luke Voit fight, the Nestor Cortes NFT, Tim Anderson flipping off a fan, and of course Joe West's new podcast. Dallas has to leave early so Jared and Joey hold down the fort for the second half of the episode where they get deep into the psyche of Major League umpires. Enjoy! Baseball Is Dead Episode 4: Fire The Boys Up
8798
Episode 4 of Baseball Is Dead starts off hot as Jared comes in fired up about his deep hatred for immaculate innings. The topic then shifts to why Max Scherzer doesn't get mentioned in the same category as Clayton Kershaw and whether he deserves more recognition. The guys then have a lengthy discussion around the bizarre move in the Angels/Rangers game over the weekend where Joe Maddon decided to walk Corey Seager with the bases loaded and break down Joe's reasoning for the move. Fernando Tatís Jr. was also a topic of discussion as a video went viral of him playing soccer on the field and tripping over the ball in what looked like a potentially dangerous fall. Jared brings up Roki Sasaki being pulled after eight perfect innings and 14K's after his previous start where he pitched a perfect game with 19K's. Jared also revisits the essay he wrote about Dallas's hometown Stockton, CA. We end the show with discussion about where we are at with juiced/deadened baseballs, the current face of MLB, Astros players still getting boo'd, and the A's having the most runs scored in the majors. Baseball Is Dead Episode 3: Rings Over Perfect Games
5622
Jared, Dallas, and Joey are back for episode three to discuss an eventful beginning to the week for Major League Baseball. Of course, the story on everyone's mind is Clayton Kershaw being pulled after seven perfect innings against the Twins. Dallas describes his reaction when he saw that Kershaw wasn't on the mound for the 8th inning and discusses the long term impact that throwing a perfect game could have on a team, its fans and the game of baseball, but also factors in the importance of winning and staying healthy into a manager's decision to pull a pitcher in this situation. But first, Jared reacts to John Sterling's botched home run call and insists that the baseball Gods must be on his side for him to have heard it live on the radio. The guys also break down Brett Phillips' pitching performance and Dallas's call of his incredible catch as well as Phillips hitting his longest and hardest hit home run after receiving a good-luck bracelet from a girl who is battling cancer for the second time. We also touch on the video that went viral of Alec Bohm saying he hates Philadelphia, the Cleveland Guardians' consistently ridiculous offense, the situation with Gabe Kapler, an ejection during the Padres/Giants game that led to the first female coach to ever step on a field during a MLB game, and Albert Pujols hitting his first home run as a Cardinal since 2011 and whether he is actually the age that he says he is. Baseball Is Dead Episode 1: WE'RE BACK (Off-Season Recap and Predictions)
10845
Jared and Dallas are BACK and this time they’re bringing along Joey, aka “Baseball Doesn’t Exist.” The guys are on a mission to prove that no matter how many people declare the sport of baseball “dead,” the real fans know that it couldn’t be a more exciting time to start getting into baseball. Jared starts episode 1 of “Baseball Is Dead” by providing some background on his hiatus from podcasting over the last month and a half. He talks about his decision to leave Barstool Sports to join DraftKings and some of the exciting new content plans he has in store for this MLB season. He welcomes Dallas back to the show and introduces Joey, a Braves fan who will bring a much-needed National League perspective to the show. The guys then breakdown some of the major signings and trades that occurred post-lockout and talk about what shocked them, what didn’t, which teams got better and which teams got worse. They cover topics from Carlos Correa signing with the Twins, to Josh Donaldson being paired up with Gerrit Cole in New York, the Braves replacing Freddie Freeman with Matt Olson, and the head-scratching signing of Kris Bryant by the Rockies. Of course, it wouldn’t be an Opening Day podcast without predictions for the season, so the guys give their takes on who they think will win Comeback Player of the Year, Manager of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Cy Young and MVP. We couldn’t be more excited to be back and we can’t wait to get into the swing of things, it’s going to be a great year! Enjoy!
