Episode Date
Elaine Welteroth - We Can Fix the Maternal Health Crisis
00:41:56
The maternal health crisis is a human rights issue. It’s a systemic issue. And, most importantly, it’s an issue we can solve, together. Today’s episode features three people who are leading the way: activist and journalist Elaine Welteroth, founder of 4Kira4Moms Charles Johnson, and Kimberly Durdin, doula and co-founder of Kindred Space (the only Black-owned birthing center in L.A.). Listen to a recording of their live conversation at a recent Bobbie for Change event on Black maternal health, where they talked about humanizing this crisis through storytelling and rooting the conversation in hope. Afterwards, our host Anjelika Temple talks with Elaine about her own birth journey, why we need to change the way we talk about childbirth entirely, and how we begin.

How to Survive Your First Year of Parenthood with Tan France
00:43:19
People talk a lot about the joy of having a baby… and less about the hours-on-end crying, explosive diapers, and total exhaustion. How can parents survive the rollercoaster of year one? In this week’s episode, Anj gets real about early parenthood. She chats with entertainer and fashion designer Tan France about his toughest moments and best advice from year one. Then, Anj talks to clinical psychologist and best-selling author Dr. Shefali about the myth of the “perfect parent” and the real meaning of conscious parenting.

Why the Formula Industry Was Due for a Shake-Up
00:42:40
Formula feeding isn’t a parenting failure. So why do so many parents still feel that way? In this week’s episode, host Anjelika Temple explores the stigma of formula and the ever-evolving conversation around how we feed our babies. First, she talks with Mallory Whitmore, aka The Formula Mom, about becoming the feeding expert she wishes she had as a new mom. Then, Anj talks to Bobbie co-founders, Laura Modi and Sarah Hardy, about how their difficult feeding journeys led them on a mission to support modern parents—one bottle at a time.

P.S. There’s still a shortage of formula in many areas of the country. Have extra you want to donate? Our guest, Mallory (@theformulamom) suggests asking local food banks, domestic violence shelters, Baby2Baby chapters, or parent groups on Facebook. If you’re a Bobbie customer, your purchase also makes an impact: We partner with Baby2Baby to provide Bobbie to their network of 45 non-profits around the country, and provide formula to milk-insecure babies in Detroit through Brilliant Detroit.
