By 1917, he had risen to lead Jasta 11 and the renowned Jagdgeschwader 1, famously known as the Flying Circus. A national hero in Germany and a figure of intrigue for his adversaries, Richthofen met his untimely end on April 21, 1918, near Amiens. His life and legacy continue to spark debate, particularly surrounding the circumstances of his death.
