His protocols and programs have been used to accelerate and raise mental and physical performance in world-class Olympic and professional athletes, musicians, actors, top executives, elite military operators, prisoners in institutions, and the health of people suffering from chronic and pathological issues.
Brian’s work is voluntarily and repeatedly subjected to rigorous 3rd party scientific testing, re-testing, and improvement, at top institutions. He has been contracted, and his work is involved in research projects at Stanford University School of Medicine, California State University Fullerton, San Francisco State University, and the UFC Performance Institute.
Brian is himself a highly accomplished practitioner. He completed the Ironman (Canada, 2004) and completed the Western States 100-mile and The Angeles Crest 100-mile runs using adapted training protocols he developed to improve performance.
He is the co-founder of The Art of Breath, a division of SHIFT that teaches a principles-based approach to breath & performance. He has voluntarily integrated and run his program at San Quentin State Prison with tremendous success. Brian and his protocols have been featured in 2 of Timothy Ferriss’ New York Times bestselling books, including: “The 4-Hour Body” and “Tools of Titans” and Scott Carney’s New York Times best-seller “What Doesn't Kill Us.”

Additionally, Dr. Greene currently serves as the corporate medical advisor for The Madera Group, where his focus is not only on offering concierge health and wellness consultations to The Madera Group and its employees, but also as a medical consultant on menu development across the group’s culinary concepts: Toca Madera and Tocaya Organica. Dr. Greene strives to ensure the nutritional soundness of every menu item at each of the group’s venues.
Dr. Greene earned his Master’s of Science (M.S.) in Exercise Physiology, Immunology and Human Nutrition at University of Illinois (Urbana/Champaign). He completed post-graduate medical training at Dartmouth and The Mayo Clinic during which time he collaborated with a wide array of leading medical experts culminating in numerous published research efforts. He is currently a fellow of the world-renowned University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine under the direction of Dr. Andrew Weil, MD.

Devan McConnell is the Phoenix Coyote’s High Performance Director responsible for maximizing performance, minimizing injury risk, optimizing fitness and nutrition levels and executing comprehensive training regiments for all Coyotes and Roadrunners players and club prospects.
Devan McConnell joins the Coyotes from the New Jersey Devils where he served as their Director of Performance Science and Reconditioning. In this role, he oversaw the integration and application of sport and performance science technologies, systems and practices. McConnell also assisted with the day-to-day performance training of all NHL athletes in the Devils organization, the return-to-play training of injured athletes and the organizational vision and directive of the Performance department at both the NHL and AHL levels.
Prior to his time in New Jersey, the Lake Stevens, Washington native previously served as the Head of Hockey Performance and Sport Science at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He was responsible for the oversight and development of all aspects of physical development for the ice hockey team.
McConnell also previously served as the Sports Performance Coordinator at Stanford University from 2008-11 where he worked closely with the women's basketball team as well as the men's and women's volleyball programs. All these teams were regulars in the NCAA tournament. During his time at Stanford, women's basketball competed in three consecutive Final Fours while the women's volleyball team competed in two Final Fours and the men's volleyball program won the 2010 NCAA Championship.

Throughout his active career in international powerlifting competition Ed Coan has set over 71 world records in powerlifting.[4] He became the lightest person to cross the 2,400 lb. barrier in the powerlifting total (a sum of three lifts: the deadlift, bench, and squat). He set an all-time powerlifting record total at 2,463 pounds, even though at the time he was not in the heaviest weight class.
Coan's best result in a drug tested international competition is 1,035 kg (2,282 lbs) in the 100 kg weight class at the 1994 IPF Senior World Championships.[5] establishing a new world record at the time. Even though serving a lifetime ban from the IPF for doping, today Coan is among some people still acknowledged and regarded a legend in the world of powerlifting and spends much of his time mentoring young lifters coming into the sport.[3]

Dr. House has a Ph.D. in Nutrition from the University of Texas at Austin, which is one of the top ranked public universities in the United States. Dr. House is also a Nutritionist (CN), Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist (FDN), and Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner (CFMP).
House was accepted to medical school without an undergraduate degree, but rescinded because during this time his father was fighting for his life with debilitating diverticulitis. The conventional medical model prescribed him pain killers, antibiotics, saltine crackers, and white bread. This pushed House to question the sick care model and look for the underlying lifestyle and dietary factors that could be the reason why his father was in so much pain.
Lo and behold his father had Celiac disease and within a week of removing all grains and dairy from his diet he was symptom free. This was Dr. House’s first taste of Functional Medicine and he knew at that moment that this would be his life’s passion. Since then he has studied under some of the best in the world and continues to regularly attend and present at conferences and seminars around the world.

Brown fat, also called brown adipose tissue or BAT, is a special type of body fat that is (activated) when you get cold. It’s also the same type of fat bears use when hibernating. We are born with a lot of brown fat, especially behind our shoulder blades. Newborn babies can’t shiver, a process that creates heat within the body so they use their abundant stores of BAT to regulate their temperature.

There are two types of fat on your body – white fat WAT and Brown Fat BAT. White fat is the bad fat that we all associate with excessive caloric intake. Those calories are stored as white fat for use as a an energy source later on. White fat is mostly stored in thighs, hips and stomach and too much of this kind of fat is associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. There are metabolic disorders. The white fat in your body is made from large droplets of fatty acids. The cells of brown fat are packed tightly with mitochondria, the powerhouse of all of our cells. Brown fat takes in excess sugar and fat and breaks them down for use as an energy source. What does all of this have to do with getting cold?
When your body gets cold, it produces a hormone called norepinephrine. Brown fat has receptors for the norepinephrine and when these receptors sense that hormone, they signal the abundant mitochondria to crank out the energy production. That energy production process creates heat to help regulate your body temperature.

Schlesinger is finishing his second season in the NBA working as the Director of Performance /Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Phoenix Suns.
Prior to the league, he was the Director of Basketball Performance at Stanford University. In his time on The Farm, he has revolutionized in-season strength training for collegiate student-athletes, with a method that is now internationally recognized. He has been a chosen presenter on both the national and international stage, sharing his philosophy in strength training to other experts and colleagues in the field. He is continuously sharing his knowledge and experience on multiple platforms, including podcasts, satellite radio, and several public speaking engagements.
Prior to joining the staff at Stanford, Schlesinger spent three years as the Director of Basketball Performance at UAB, two years as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at Santa Clara University, and two years as an Assistant at Campbell University.

Over 40 years ago, back in 1980, a school teacher named Richard Sorin was sweating over a hot piece of hand-cut welded steel in a small 2 car garage. He had already taught the scholastic weightlifting club that morning, followed by AM bus duty, 8 hours of gym class, PM bus duty (for extra money that was used to eventually start his business), and then the jogging club for the teaching staff. Following the school day, he would tear across town to make it to the steel yard before it closed, strap steel to the roof of a 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser, and drive back across town to get started with his new business and dream... Sorin Exercise Equipment.
You see, he loved to lift weights, and with a background of collegiate track and field and national level Olympic weightlifting, he knew his way around a weight room. What he did not have, was access to any super-strong, customizable, sport specific weightlifting equipment. Nothing on the market at the time was good enough for him. He was tired of the bar being set so low by weightlifting equipment manufacturers, so he did the only thing he could think of. He made his own.

Alexander J. Koch, Ph.D., CSCS joined Lenoir-Rhyne University in Fall 2011. He is the program coordinator for Exercise Science. Ursula is a former two-time national champion, two-time Olympic Festival champion, 5 time world team member and former record holder in both the snatch and the clean and jerk. She was an elite international athlete who distinguished herself as a coach in 2003 by becoming the first and only woman to attain USA Weightlifting’s highest coaching level, Senior International Coach Level 5.
Ursula has extensive national and international experience in competitive weightlifting as an athlete since 1987, and 20+ years of coaching experience at national and international levels. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise and Sports Science, and her Masters Degree in Political Science, and has had a career as a Professor at Austin Community College since 1994. She revived her competitive career to become Master’s national champion and best lifter in 2009, national champion again in 2010, and once more breaking national and unofficial world records in 2013.
She became CrossFit Level 1 certified in 2010 and served as part of the CrossFit Olympic Lifting Certification Staff 2009-2015, in addition to teaching the USAW Level 1 and 2 Sports Performance courses.
Ursula has served on the USAW Board of Directors since 2009 and has been held the position of President since 2015. In 2017, Ursula was the first ever female elected as Vice President of the International Weightlifting Federation, a position she currently holds, and is also the IWF Women’s Commission Chair.

Bert and his family, a family rooted in strength, have been entrenched in the human performance world for as far back as he can remember. Growing up with a barbell in his hand has been pivotal in charting the course of his life and leading him to become a 4-time Division 1 All-American Track and Field (Hammer and 35 lb. Weight Throw), Southeastern Conference Champion, former record holder in Weight Throw, and an Olympic trials athlete. Bert is currently the President and Co-Owner of Sorinex Exercise Equipment, a very successful family run business founded by his father, another big name in the iron game, Richard Sorin. Together they are the inventors of hardware and applications to make people more effective, efficient, and safe on the sports field and the battle field. Although Sorin never served in the arms forces, his gear is changing the game to provide readiness and rebuilding to the veterans prior to, during and after their deployments to far off, hostile lands. Bert’s network of veterans, scientists, coaches and therapists allows for a combination of expertise and support, and has been changing lives on both sides of the table. Bert pushes each day to find the best in people, and to assist in their exploration of their potential and maximize their value to the cause.

John Martin is the Director of Aftercare for the Fit-Ops Foundation. Fit-Ops is a charitable organization that trains US Military Veterans to become trainers through a fully-funded three-week Bootcamp.
During their time at Fit-Ops, veterans learn the skills and techniques they need to know to become personal trainers, and Fit-Ops also instructs them business and job-searching skills. Most importantly, however, Fit-Ops dedicates much of their training to help veterans to overcome their mental blocks and potential mental trauma.
The organization has a dedicated staff that’s meant to look after veterans after they leave the camp. This is called “aftercare” and it continues as long as graduates remain in the Fit-Ops network.

Paul Beckwith has worked with athletes of all ages and experience. Born and raised in Dillon, South Carolina, Beckwith moved to Palatka, Florida, where he was a four‐year letterman in football, wrestling, track and field and weightlifting. Following graduation, he played football at the University of South Carolina, where he was an All‐SEC performer and four‐year starter on the offensive line.
After a stellar college career, Paul declined a free agent deal with several NFL teams to pursue his passion in the strength and conditioning profession. After completing his degree in business management, he worked as a strength and conditioning coach at USC, advising the football, baseball, soccer, golf, swimming and diving and track and field programs prior to joining Apex. Beckwith’s multiple certifications include; OPEX Advanced Coach with expertise in assessment, program design, nutrition and life coaching; United States Weightlifting trained with certification in Olympic lifting. Paul has trained professional athletes representing the National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), Major League Soccer (MLS), Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) and U.S. Olympic Weightlifting.

Low body fat and large amounts of lean muscle mass is the holy grail of body composition. Unfortunately, your genetics disagree, and this is what makes metabolic function so frustrating. However, there is a magic pill to overcome this, but, before we get there, it’s important to understand why your body is fighting against you. You are hard wired for survival. For millions of years, hunter gatherer societies had limited resources, calories were difficult to find, and your body built mechanisms to store energy (fat). In modern times, food is abundant (grocery stores), insanely easy to find (every corner), and calories are cheap (fast food). However, those survival mechanisms were never turned off. Our bodies still think we need to store food for the cold winter ahead. The overeating and storing energy cycle continues until you are slow, soft, sluggish, 15 pounds overweight, unhappy, and dying to take the deep dive into the Diesel Dad Diet. The magic weapon to overcome your body’s backwards thinking is muscle. Metabolically, muscle is very expensive. To build muscle, you must create an environment in which you break down old muscle tissue and repair it with new, stronger muscle tissue capable of meeting the demands of this new, challenging environment. At its core, this is why lifting weights and getting stronger is so important. By creating an environment that breaks down weak tissue you force your body to adapt, repair, rebuild, and get stronger. That process of adapting, repairing, rebuilding, and getting stronger is like throwing gasoline on the fire that is your metabolism. Calories no longer need to be saved for the future. Fat stores become the fuel to build lean muscle mass. Of course your body doesn’t want you to be jacked. Muscle is expensive. Despite the social capital you receive for the blood, sweat, and tears of grueling workouts, these brutal sessions can be detrimental to you reaching your goals. Wouldn’t it be great if you could spend less time in the gym, more time doing leisure activities, and lose fat faster? This flies in the face of conventional wisdom. TV commercials, Facebook Ads, and elite athletes lead you to believe the only way to achieve your goals is to train 24/7. Those hours on the gym floor should be a near death experience and we all know the only way to finish a good workout is laying on your back, praying you don’t throw up, while the rest of class cleans up their equipment. In reality, cutting your grass, vacuuming your house, and going for a walk is equally beneficial for fat loss as your 1-hour HIIT class. In fact, when it comes to exercising, you are overemphasizing its importance on fat loss and body composition. Despite the social capital you receive for the blood, sweat, and tears of grueling workouts, these brutal sessions can be detrimental to you reaching your goals. Wouldn’t it be great if you could spend less time in the gym, more time doing leisure activities, and lose fat faster? This flies in the face of conventional wisdom. TV commercials, Facebook Ads, and elite athletes lead you to believe the only way to achieve your goals is to train 24/7. Those hours on the gym floor should be a near death experience and we all know the only way to finish a good workout is laying on your back, praying you don’t throw up, while the rest of class cleans up their equipment. In reality, cutting your grass, vacuuming your house, and going for a walk is equally beneficial for fat loss as your 1-hour HIIT class. Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT) is the sum total of all activity in your day that is not sleeping, eating, or training. Yes, training, and training hard is important, however, it is impossible to keep that intensity throughout the day and overtraining can be detrimental to achieving your goals. Think of your body as a high performance vehicle. Hitting the gas and flooring it (High Intensity Exercise) sounds cool in the short term but a terrible decision for long term performance. You burn a lot of gas but things are going to break down quickly. NEAT is the slow burn, keeping the engine revved all day, burning fuel at a steady pace, all day, without the exploding engine. Waking up 10 minute early and completing the Diesel Dad 100. Pacing while you talk on the phone. Going for walks with your family. Metabolisms are confusing. Everyone knows they have one but nobody truly understands how they work. Wouldn’t it be awesome to unlock the keys to how your body burns calories? Wouldn’t it be empowering to know exactly much to eat to build a strong, lean, and athletic body you are proud of? I get this process can be daunting. I am not a scientist, have never worn a lab coat, and have an undiagnosed allergy to academia that has haunted me my entire life. Lucky for you, this means I get to talk to you like a real human, without all the jargon that confuses the hell out of people. So what is your metabolism? It is the total amount of energy expended by your body in a given day. This number is represented by an acronym, TDEE, which stands for “Total Daily Energy Expenditure.” There are four major ways your body expends energy. Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR): All the chemical and hormonal reactions that keep you alive. This is the amount of energy you need for brain and organ function, repair, and rebuilding of cells with absolutely ZERO movement in your day. Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT): The amount of energy needed to walk, talk, raise your hands, type emails, and move throughout your day. NEAT is the sum total of all non-exercise movement in your day. Physical Activity: This is the one everyone understands. This is the dedicated time you spend in the gym, lifting, conditioning, and training. Thermal Effect of Food (TEF): Every bit of food that enters your mouth undergoes a digestion process turning protein into amino acids, carbohydrates into glucose, and fat into fatty acids that can be used by your body. What’s great about understanding these four components of your Total Daily Energy Expenditure is that all four are not created equal. BMR = Roughly 60% of your TDEE NEAT = Roughly 15% of your TDEE Exercise = Roughly 15% of your TDEE TEF = Roughly 10% of your TDEE These numbers are the key to success. With so many people focusing on more exercise, they miss the largest goal of increasing their baseline metabolism. This is the key component to the Diesel Dad Diet Over 13 weeks you will lose 13 pounds by systematically increasing your baseline metabolism. You will: Reduce the total time spent in the gym. Build more muscle. Burn more fat. Eliminate the crippling confusion about your metabolism. Stop all the negativity of feeling slow, soft, and sluggish. Schedule Your Diesel Dad Discovery Call Fitness: An Ethical Responsibility I hate the term “motivation.” Motivation is overrated. The entire fitness industry is built on short selling aesthetics. Looking good naked is awesome but the goal you have in mind is rarely attainable without a lifestyle you cannot sustain. Performance plays to the long game until your joints despise you, consistency wains, and you’re telling stories of yesteryears bench press. In the last year, over 42% of Americans gained an average of 29 pounds. Millennials, age 25-40, gained an average of 41 pounds during lockdowns. As an industry, it is time to move past motivation, aesthetics, and performance. I believe you have an ethical responsibility to being strong, lean, and athletic. Fitness is a conversation of ethics. A conversation about being an asset, not a liability. Increasing strength and decreasing fragility. Carrying a low body fat percentage to reduce the risk of disease. Athleticism to be an active participant in life. These are learned behaviors modeled by leaders in our own lives. Before teachers, coaches, and mentors, there were parents that laid a foundation for right and wrong. Fitness is an ethical responsibility in the same manner that we have agreed lying, cheating, and stealing are detrimental to a functioning society. This is accepting that over time, motivation, aesthetics, and performance will vary. However, the ethical responsibility is a constant. Accepting this requires developing a physical education on movement, strength, and conditioning. An education on metabolic health, macronutrients, and muscle. An education on running, jumping, playing, and physical freedom. Accepting fitness as an ethical responsibility requires leadership. It requires you to get off the sidelines, step into the arena, and lead by example. Because strong families, raising strong kids, are led by Diesel Dads.

Coach Blayne Lapan Graduated from Springfield College in 2012 with a B.S. in Applied Exercise Science and a concentration is Strength and Conditioning. After graduation he spent some time working as a Physical Therapy Aide as well as training athletes in the private sector at Conca Sport and Fitness in West Springfield Ma. In the fall of 2013 Coach Lapan accepted the newly developed position of Assistant Strength and Conditioning coach at the Williston Northampton School, where he along with one of his mentors, Justin Geyer started the strength and conditioning program from the ground up. In the winter of 2013-2014, Coach Lapan accepted the role as the new head of strength and conditioning at the Williston Northampton School, where he continued to build upon the framework of the program into what it is today.
In his 8 years at Williston coach Lapan has had the opportunity of training many stand out student athletes. Including 6 future professional athletes across a multitude of different sports, over 120 division 1 and division 2 scholarship athletes, and countless Division 3 athletes. He has been apart of a program at Williston where, on average, 20% of its senior class will go on to play college athletics. This is well above the national average of 7% of high school seniors who will move on to play at the next level.
Coach Lapan uses an evidence-based approach to train his athletes a primary goal of injury prevention. Simultaneously he works to improve the strength, power, and movement quality of his athletes to help them improve athletically and ultimately reach their goals on the playing surface.
Coach Lapan takes pride in the fact that he coaches the “whole athlete”. He realizes that strength and conditioning as well as athletics is an excellent vessel for teaching kids about the challenges that life will bring him. He strives to teach his athletes the power of commitment, work ethic, leadership and health and fitness. He realizes that everyone, regardless of there skill level, will have a life after athletics and the life lessons learned under the barbell can be indelible for a developing athlete.

In addition to successful stints as a competitive powerlifter, bodybuilder and amateur boxer, Dustin wrestled in high school and was always drawn to training athletes in the worlds oldest and toughest sport.
In 2012, Coach Myers accepted the position of Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Ohio Regional Training Center for Olympic wrestling at The Ohio State University. During his tenure, Coach Myers helped the Ohio State Wrestling team win its first NCAA Championship in school history, a pair of runner up NCAA finishes and 3 team Big10 titles.
In addition to the Buckeyes, some of the athletes he has worked with include 2x NCAA Champ Tommy Rowlands, 3x World Team member Reece Humphrey, Olympic Champion Kyle Snyder, and top MMA prospect Lance Palmer. He has also worked extensively with UFC welterweight contender Matt Brown and former Ohio State football stars Chris “Beanie” Wells, Antonio Pittman, Maurice Clarett, and Dan “Boom” Herron.
Coach Myers is also a founding partner of the supplement company Max Effort Muscle. He has appeared on the cover of Natural Muscle Magazine (June 2016) and is a regular content contributor to Flowrestling and the Muscle & Strength website.

Richard Diaz, is founder of diaz human performance, a California based sports performance business, The Natural Running Network and creator of the Natural Running Coaches Certification Program.
Mr. Diaz has extensive experience in clinical sport specific diagnostics (VO2 max and resting metabolic assessments), running mechanics video analysis and gait correction and of course coaching. He is the host of this weekly podcast for runners titled “The Natural Running Network”. The interviews are commonly easy going, honest and brought about to provide entertaining commentary spiced with education and training advice.

Nate Palin is the Director of Education at the FitOps Foundation, an organization that equips veterans who are passionate about fitness, health, and wellness to find success after the military.
Using fitness and the leadership skills that they gained during their time in the service, veterans are equipped with a new mission: to help improve the lives of others. Focusing on professional and personal development, veterans who graduate from FitOps are experts in fitness coaching, and are awarded a fitness industry professional certification and designated as Certified Veteran Fitness Operatives (CVFO), which gives them the tools necessary to launch a career in fitness and leadership.
Nate Palin served as a leader in the 2nd Ranger Battalion for seven years prior to his transition to strength and conditioning. Over the course of five combat deployments in support of Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom, Nate experienced the military’s performance shortcomings and observed the need for enhanced physical training to better support mission critical tasks.
He began his coaching career in 2010, narrowed his focus to tactical strength and conditioning as a Performance Specialist for EXOS in Washington, D.C. in 2012, and coached Special Operations Forces at Joint Base Lewis-McChord from 2015 to 2018.

Dr. Bill Campbell, Ph.D., FISSN, CSCS, is a Professor of Exercise Science and the Director of the Performance & Physique Enhancement Laboratory at the University of South Florida. Dr. Lenny Wiersma is a Professor of Sport and Performance Psychology in the Department of Kinesiology at California State University, Fullerton, where he has taught since 2001. He is the Director of the Performance Psychology Lab at CSUF and has conducted research and/or worked with a variety of extreme sport athletes including big-wave surfers, extreme backcountry skiers and snowboarders, ultramarathon runners and cyclists, Crossfit Games athletes, and UFC fighters.
He serves on the advisory board of the Nike Sport Research Lab in Beaverton, Oregon, as well as on the advisory board of XPT Extreme Performance TrainingTM. Dr. Wiersma is currently on the staff of UCLA Men’s and Women’s Water Polo teams as a sport psychology consultant as well as USA Swimming’s National Team, specializing in Open Water.
He serves on the editorial board of The Sport Psychologist, is a former Associate Editor for Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, and was the Co-Director of the Center for the Advancement of Responsible Youth Sport at CSUF from 2001-2014. He received his masters and doctorate degrees in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts and his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington.

OCR Stars was born from the fallout of sport during the 2020 season. Competitions worldwide have been put on hold due to the Covid circumstances; this has left millions of participants and tens of thousands of athletes with empty race schedules.
As a professional athlete, I have built the last nine years of my life around the schedule of my events. This was taken away late February and continues to show that there is no certainty it will come back any time soon. This has created an opportunity that can change the industry and save the 2020 season that is all but lost. With the resources that I have amassed over my career, my team and I are launching a virtual event with four workouts over four weeks to find the fittest OCR athletes in the world. Athletes globally will be tested by all the characteristics that define an OCR champion. By the end of the four weeks, we will crown workout winners and eventually an overall winner.
The true purpose behind this event is to push funding back toward the athletes while also supporting the age group participants with sponsorship packages and event passes to top events for the 2021 season. Our goal is 10k-20k participants at $30 a person. This will allow us to put up to $250k cash back into the community and athletes. This event will be the first of its kind, and with the right team this will be one of the biggest global internet events in the history of endurance sports.
