I could almost forgive Tripp his arrogance if he weren't such a bully to Andrew. Made me cringe.

The basics, please.

I am a big podcast fan and I grew up in the 80s, so it sounded like the perfect podcast. But this one does not have the minimum attention to important details, like how annoying it is to hear someone who is too close to the mic. Listened to 5 seconds and stopped.

Y'all are awesome! Keep pointing out the rasist/sexist crap we used to think was funny, or still do in a cring-worthy way. Please keep reflecting the growth we need to make as a society.

just wanted to give a stellar review. these guys are super amusing (they do get a little over pc with what was wrong with movies that are 30+ years old but it's not obnoxious). love the show, they zero in on stuff I'm into.

One of my favourite Podcasts so I gave it 5 stars because I love the 80s and I love films. Request: please can you do a review of One-Trick Pony (from October 1980)? Perhaps in a series of movies made by rock stars who wanted to act?!

Description

Tripp and Andrew Laino have been watching movies together since 1992, and making fun of them together since 1999, when a rainy afternoon of babysitting turned into 8 hours of cheesy science fiction and jokes. Raised on a strict diet of 80s movies, the pair have an undying love for the decade and all of the weird, wonderful cinema therein, despite barely being there for it. Every other week (since 2014) they dissect a movie and the bizarre cinema quirks of 30-odd years ago.

01:24:06

Leap Day's Curse has struck again, driving us all the way to the year TWO THOUSAND for Ready to Rumble!

Is wrestling real or scripted, because this movie sure doesn't know! Why does Scott Caan always show his butt? Why is there SO MUCH POOP in this movie? Why doesn't it get into the insanity of wrestling?! Why isn't there more Martin Landau? ARE WE DOING SHE'S ALL THAT?!

#147 Howling IV: The Original Nightmare
01:05:59

It's FOURBRUARY! (Maybe for the last time!)

We workshop a new werewolf idea (TMTMTM), peanuts on Coke, Coke as bourbon, massive continuity issues, random day/night shifts, a true and serious lack of werewolf transitions, a bizarre medley of werewolf designs, some truly random nudity, a weirdo shopkeeper and one TRULY nasty transition.

01:29:28

It's the single most confusing movie we've ever done on the show: William Friedkin's Cruising!

We're kicking off 2020 with a weird little movie turning 35: Tuff Turf!

Baby James Spader is doing a not-so-great James Dean to woo future Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kim Richards away from her EXTREMELY abusive boyfriend with the help of a baby Robert Downey, Jr.! Andrew reveals WAY too much knowledge about the Real Housewives canon, we don't know enough about California, a very strange reality, paintball guns and Errol Flynn $hit.

You serious, Dissecting the 80s?

#141 Tango & Cash
01:11:55

We're kicking off December with a super fun buddy cop movie turning 30 this year: Tango & Cash!

Did Tripp finally learn an impression? (Yes) Does he do it too much? (Also, yes). Andrew confuses Kurt Russell and Patrick Swayze for an entire movie, so Tripp is concerned for his health. Stallone continues to mumble his way through everything, but in nicer clothes! So many explosions. So many character actors.

01:46:03

We're diving into Splash for its 35th anniversary, and taking on our LONG-TIME nemesis: Ron. Howard. It's our longest episode ever and it's T. Hanks-giving!

Why is there so little Clint? We pitch a buddy movie with Clint and Randy Quaid, Ron Howard and Bryce Dallas Howard get theoretically so mad at us, Andrew remembers several Disney Channel Original Movies, We discuss the signature Tom Hanks Yell (TM), so much mermaid discussion, the tortured life of Daryl Hannah in this movie, we discuss the bathroom habits of mermaids, the logic of mermaids and how the end of this movie is MUCH more interesting than than the whole movie!   All this and more!

We've got not one but TWO better brothers: Randy Quaid and Clint Howard! Plus, Charlie Sheen as a reinCARnated (I can't believe we didn't come up with that during this episode) guy, Nick Cassavettes as a true scumbag, Twin Peaks' Sherilynn Fenn and some great car action! #138 Death Spa
01:18:35

Out-of-context-quote from this episode: "I'm watching a movie, not at an Outback Steakhouse!"

The spooktacular ends with a truly bizarre movie: Death Spa! (AKA Witch Bitch)   What's up with this nonsense technology? Why can't we tell anyone apart? Who, exactly, is the bad guy in this movie? Are we dealing with witches or not? The used car salesman of breasts. Really, really, really great practical death scenes. Blender breakdowns. Sexy asparagus. Newly blind people left alone. #135 Rambo 2
01:12:31

The desiccated husk of Sylvester Stallone is releasing a final chapter in the Rambo series, so we're going to where it started going off the rails: Rambo: First Blood II!

How stupid is this title? Is Rambo a Mary Sue? Why doesn't this movie have a proper sidekick? What's Stallone's Vietnam obsession? Is this the worst love story in the history of feature film? Just how many knives is Sylvester Stallone in possession of? Does anyone in this movie understand show, don't tell? Plus, a serious diversion and discussion on Beauty and the Beast's Gaston and the logistics of his 60 eggs PER DAY!

#134 She's Out of Control
01:15:51

We're getting a little sexy for our sixth season's beginning (you know, like sextet?...We weren't sure either) with She's Out of Control!

Tony "Hold Me Closer Tiny" Danza has a daughter that's interested in b-b-b-b-b-boooooys and he can't handle it at all! Just how sexist does this thing get? Why is Wallace Shawn this low-key as the baddie? Is this the most extravagant "She's All That" turn in movie history?

It's the end of Season 5, so we're celebrating with a part 5 film: Howling 5: The Rebirth (not to be confused with Part 6: The Reborn!).

Why is there almost NO werewolf action in this? WHO IS STAVROS? How many different things are being ripped off simultaneously here? Plus, Andrew besmirches Thriller and Tripp gets mad.

#130 The Garbage Pail Kids Movie
01:16:15

Thanks to Jason in Phoenix, we had to watch The Garbage Pail Kids Movie!

Is this the worst movie in the show's history? (Yes). Why can't any of their faces move? Why are they so truly horrifying? What kids wanted to see this? Why is magic real in this movie? Why is Mackenzie Astin constantly trying to get himself beat up? See this movie if you want to see what it looks like if a Muppet movie is made by clueless, heartless idiots!

#127 Can't Stop the Music
01:27:50

It's PRIDE month, and we're celebrating with a very gay movie: Can't Stop The Music!

It's a kinda-sorta biopic about The Village People starring 80s heartthrob Steve "The Guttes" Guttenberg, and Caitlyn Jenner...based purely on decathlon prowess? Why were Americans so into the decathlon? Who decided to make a movie with just two actors in SIX of the eight main roles? Plus, Tripp admits a dark secret. All this and more!

We're celebrating the big screen return of everyone's favorite irradiated lizard king with Godzilla 1985!

(Magnum, P.I. Season 7, Episode 9 "Novel Connection" and Murder, She Wrote Season 3, Episode 8 "Magnum on Ice")

Why does it take so long for Jessica Fletcher to show up? Why is there a ridiculous "B" plot in this Magnum Episode? How weird is it to see the syndication ending first? Is Jessica Fletcher a murderer? Can Magnum mansplain any more? (No). All this and more!
