If I had a bigger bank account, if I work continual 16 hour days, if I just spam my Instagram feed… I’ll be able to hit that next goal. While diet and hustle culture look tempting, neither are healthy for the long term.

And usually there is some sort of shame, guilt, or worry about judgement that comes up when we have a ‘money trigger.’ Kristen is sharing how this showed up for her recently around a designer purse purchase and what it taught her about her business and how she worked through the surprising shame that came up around it.

38. Ambitious Anxiety

Many people are stuck in the hustle of growing their business and trying to reach their next goal to the point that they can’t take a break or rest without being plagued with an impulse to respond to messages, write another post, or message another person. They think that drive is what is motivating them to hit the next goal, but it’s likely high-functioning anxiety.

 

Kristen shares her experience of discovering that she had high-functioning anxiety and that her ambition was being fueled by restlessness and an inability to manage her thoughts about her business when she was resting.

 

  • Why most people don’t identify as being ‘anxious’

We want to change and ‘fix’ things about ourselves from a place of frustration by using negative self-talk. Spoiler alert: that doesn’t work. We have to love ourselves exactly how we are right now, and create goals and take action from that love.

A topic that comes up a lot with my coaching clients is around the ‘thoughts we think.’ And while I typically give you a lot of strategy and action items on the podcast, the thoughts you think are so important because they are the precursor to all of your actions. Our thoughts cause our emotions. And every action we take in life comes from an emotion.

Our actions and our inactions (or inability to act) can always be traced back to our thoughts.

So today I wanted to give you 10 success thoughts. These are thoughts I have used regularly from the very beginning of my journey. I hold them close to me at all times. I'm always going back to them. If you harness these thoughts--if you really adopt these thoughts from a place of conviction, and believe them as truth in your mind, it will change everything for you.
